Yeah, 10 mil a year for Allen is overpaying. He's not young, was streaky at best and isn't exactly a historically good defender.

never been to chicago?

A few times actually, my sister lives there. To me, it just doesn't feel the same, though it could be just the parts that I've been to.

To be fair, Chicago is right there with NY or LA, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he signed with the Bulls.

It makes sense on an emotional level. The mantra of the Celtics has always been that they haven't lost yet when their starting 5 is healthy. So, they wanted to keep the same 5 as their starters for next season to make another run. Problem is that they're all a year older. We'll see if it works out.

I expected him to make the full MLE, but Celtics don't mind paying more I guess.

On Lebron, don't even blame the media for the whole thing. Sure, they have a part in it, but it was Lebron's team who called ESPN up. He loves all the attention. It was him that said a couple years back, "July 1, 2010 is going to be the biggest day ever." He calls himself King James on his Twitter when not even Jordan called himself Air Jordan. 1 hour press conferences != "I'm back." There are numerous instances of Lebron making the first statement to get attention.

It's not necessarily a bad thing that he's a media whore since there are the 2 extremes. There's the KD style who is low key and there's Lebron who treats the whole thing like a giant reality show, which we know is really popular in the US with all the Survivor and other shows that did well. Just 2 different types of people and styles of handing the NBA. One isn't really better than the other since they'll both attract new fans and keep old fans to the game.

Celtics re-sign Ray Allen to 2-year contract for 20 million dollars

My thoughts: REALLY!? Really!? Ray-Ray was a no-show during the Finals (except for Game 2).

He makes a lot of shots during the regular season and shot a respectable 47.7% fg, even tho <37% 3pt. Granted he had a miserable finals for the most part, but I thought he played very respectable defense on Bryant, and no doubt that took a lot out of his legs and threw off his rhythm. Otherwise he had a solid playoffs against Miami and Orlando.

Only a 2 year contract at $10m/yr, almost $9m less than last year...the celtics couldn't get an equivalent player for less to help another championship run (w/experience, chemistry, capability, floor iq, etc.)

I'm actually impressed Boston got this done at these terms.

so nba fast break is talking about James to Miami. How the hell can miami afford 3 max contracts?

All three would have to take a pay cut of a few million. I remember reading that the math would work if they all signed $15MM/yr deals.

Unfortunately, that leaves them with little money left to sign the 6 players they need to meet the minimum roster requirements.

Plus, LeBron would be going to "Wade's house". We all know his ego is big. I don't think that jives well.

He either rolls to Chicago to really win championships, or goes to NY and hopes that running with STAT will overcome defensive deficiencies.

But I don't see him going back to Cleveland. What exactly have they done since the season ended? Nothing. Not exactly a statement that says "we want to win".

The Heat could pay their entire cap to those three then offer the veteran minimum to nine other players to fill out the roster going over the salary cap, it is allowed.

Well, considering that the next CBA will not favor the players, I wonder how many veterans will choose Miami over a team that offers a 2-3yr deal @ $2-3MM/yr.

Now that ESPN is reporting that LeBron will sign in Miami (of course, they're always right!), if I were an owner in the NBA, I'd be picking off vets like crazy, just to ensure that Miami doesn't take over.

I gotta hand it to Miami though. It stands no chance of beating the Lakers unless it forms a mega triumvirate. I just hope Raja Bell signs with LA, so that he and Artest can harass the superstars and Kobe can sit back and rest on defense.

From the looks of it Lebron/Wade/Bosh will be taking $15 MIL each since Florida doesn't have a state income tax so they would be making the same if they went to any of their other choices. Which gives the Heat a bit more financial room to get more players. Which veteran would not jump at the chance to play with these three for minimum money for a couple of rings?

Pat Riley coming out of retirement to coach again would also be great to watch. Lakers/Heat Finals? Jackson vs Riley? Hell yeah!

If Lebron goes to Miami, I can't see the Lakers handling the Heat. Gasol and Bosh would neutralize each other, and the Lakers guards would get destroyed by D Wade and Lebron taking them off the dribble to the hoop. Can you imagine Derek Fisher guarding that?

Lebron, Wade, Kobe, Gasol, and Fisher on the same floor at the same time? We might see a game where a team makes more points off of free throws than they do field goals.

Haha, I never thought of that.

So true.

about 12 hours until Lebron officially says he's going to the Heat. Can't wait!
