I play VS alot now. And dear god slow players are death to your team. If you kill 3 of the 4 infected you should be running farther through the level as fast as you can. But some folks like to camp out in some corner and wait for them to respawn it seems. And when you tell them to hurry the hell up they get all pissy.

In VS you have to haul ass. /rant

I know... I was ONE infected vs 3 people and they took forever... I swear I watched "waiting for finale to start" for about 5 minutes before I started giving them text directions...

"You have to hit the car to knock the bridge down..."
"Right in front of you..."
"No, on the other side of the train tracks..."

The single AI player was a much greater threat.

Finally got this game. Game it all of Saturday and wowzers, it is bitching. The difficulty is a bit easy though. In advanced, the only real challenge is the tank. I'll give expert a shot today.

My major issue is the lack of weapons. With the main theme of the game being so formulated, some more variety would add quite a bit to the game. Everyone, by the second level, either has an M16 or an autoshotgun. They are obviously the best weapons.

I'd like for regular zombies to take a bit more damage and 'feel' the hit more. It feels like counterstrike in that the bullets don't make anyone dance. This is probably more realistic, but come on, there are hordes of zombies running around.

Wait for expert. It's killer. You need a good team to pass it on expert.

this game is pretty darn fun. i thought i would get bored of it quickly but it really is a blast.

i hope valve comes out with some more maps and a few more weapons.

Seems really cool but it's pretty unplayable on my system. I installed and the intro movies ran fine but once I got in game starting either single player or multiplayer the game often locks up with these rapidly repeating audio loops that sound like a machine gun while the screen freezes, and this last for several seconds, then I can play for a minute or so and it locks up again.

Something about dual core? Maybe my sound card is no good for games (ASUS Xonar D2X).
My video card is 7950 GT, cpu is core 2 duo E6750. On a Windows XP SP2 box.

I actually like the hunting rifle the best when in a team. Great mix of accuracy and damage while firing fast enough to be effective.

This game is still way too much fun for me.

I've played with buddies a few times every week...never imagined it'd be so much fun

Yesterday we were messing around for hours with mods in our LAN server.

So hilariously awesome.

I was also talking more about campaign mode on expert, of which the tank has more hit points and one punch or thrown boulder can incapacitate a survivor (or more than one if you're grouped too close together).

On Vs. mode, yeah, the tank at that point is going to need help or else he can easily be torn up by the tier 2 weapons.

While playing versus on No mercy 3, today, a tank appeared right on top of us while we were on the lift. Spawned right in the middle of us. I got a fist before I even knew there was a problem.


This whole game is really killing the whole "valve makes polished games" things for me. Between the ridiculously bad - and obviously poorly thought out, consolized server browser - there are balance problems all over, and out and out bugs.

Right, this game seems to cater more to the console systems.

I've been playing it, and I really want to see the following:

Player Ranks - better group matching
The other campaigns open for multi-player
New Weapons
Custom Maps - Hope the community is building
Other objectives than safe room to safe room. ex. Timed missions - Last 5mins, Stock infected - last through X amount of special infected, Defend - Defend a base while infected are bombarding

Lots of potential

Oh and they need to remove the stairwell on the last map of No Mercy, you can seriously just put all 4 guys under the stairs and no infected can touch you, you just cover the entrance to underneath the stairs. Pretty cheap

I really like the game, and there is a server browser...but I agree that it should be enabled by default.

I never really thought released particularly polished games though. DOD:S for instance didn't have a lot of maps when initially released IIRC. And all of the games have balance and netcode tweaks rampant at the beginning.

I actually don't really expect perfect balance out of this game, ever, and certainly not on release. The versus gametype is fairly unique so it doesn't really lend itself to any obvious balancing techniques. Players prove to be infinitely creative. I do expect tweaking and fixing of exploits in a timely manner though.

Just remember, that sometimes the server admins like to mess with people on on their servers. I've been on a server and had 4 tanks spawn at once. When you see something weird like that or a tank spawning on top of you. Just find a new server. Not really the game but the server admin.

Completely underestimated this game! I finally got around to purchasing L4D due to the immense amount of "talk" I've been hearing about this game... and man is it good! So far I've been playing the campaign mode on expert with random PUGs (none of my friends have this game unfortunately) and its a blast.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a human admin there doing something, server admins can alter the way their servers work, tweaking the power of tanks and when/where they are likely to be spawned.

One of my favorite servers I came across a while back (and thus failed to favorite it) would constantly send huge hoards at the survivors every 20 seconds or so and had green Hulk-like Tanks - which were unnecessary because the hoards would always overwhelm the survivors, the fun was seeing which team could get the farthest.

have had this game under a week and I just love it. Was not expecting it to be this good, but this is the perfect game for me right now. Small groups with tons of teamwork needed.

I have been noticing, or imagining a couple quirks the last couple days. Would like anyone to chime in if they have more information.

I boomered 2 people at once, a total of 4 zombies came after them. Meanwhile, their team boomer one single of our players and droves would come. Is this some sort of exploit? Or does the boom sometimes have less effect? Overall I felt my booms were not doing anything, but I only paid attention that one time.

Switching players between rounds. Does the server do this automatically or is there an exploit? I have seen some players that are infected nearly every round. Last night, playing with a friend, he got switched to the other team btw rounds.

Spent some time researching... havent found anything on my first issue, but did for the second. Seems most people think it is just a bug in the game caused by players taking too long to load a level. Hopefully valve will fix it. One person did mention a glitch to force a switch, but did not provide any evidence. As a solution, the switched players can go spectator, then manually switch back.

I've noticed that after a team has been hit hard multiple times, i.e. a couple spews and in caps, with in a very short period of time - that another boomer hit won't spawn a horde. I've always assumed that it was the director giving the other team a small break to recover.

or it could be a glitch.

My computer is the slow loading one, so i get switched a fair amount. It is generally better if i start as the infected, since the server likes to have the survivors fill up first.

So over a week later, I'm still liking it a lot. Versus is probably the best part, except it gets irritatingly hard sometimes for horde players who don't work well together. The regular campaign has gotten boring except for Expert. Advanced is still too easy with the exception of the tank.

The only complaint I have right now is one type of player. I can stand people who suck, people who get killed and get you killed, accidentally friendly fire, even griefers, but I it gets on my nerves when I hit a server with a really bossy asshole. I don't mean the ones that take command, and are reasonably polite; these ones tell you to do stuff, but encourage you at the same time, are laughing, or clearly having fun.

No, it's the few people who bark orders, take the game too seriously, and yell on voice or write in all caps, even leaving you behind. One asswipe even had the nerve to bitch at me for getting left behind, when he and another person on my time decided to ditch me after being taken down by a witch in a room with 2 intact doors and an ammo dump. The third guy actually helped me back up, and was cool.

Too bad it's so hard to stick to one or two favourite servers. I only play on a single server with TF2, so I've been shielded from this for a while.

ok that is good to know. the time my booms seemed to have least effect were in finale (mercy), so maybe director felt the timing wasn't right. as long as it effects everyone, i dont mind some weirdness... just dont want to be cheated against! i bet valve will fix the team switching bug soon.
