I just completed it on expert, wasent too tough, its much better on expert than on normal though, normal is just waaay to easy for me. There seems to be more dedicated servers up today.

Can you leave and join at any point of the game? Can a game start without having 4 people???

Yes, the AI is very good, helpful, and has ended up with a better overall defence score than me quite a few times. Its the AI that controls absent characters btw. Also theres the option to "take a break" where the AI will control your character until you return, to avoid sitting around waiting for the guy who needs the toilet or whatever.

People can join mid game and they take the place of any AI character.

EDIT: Just made this the official left 4 dead thread since most posts about it seem to have been in this thread.

Ive learned a couple of things from playing the demo.

1. The safe room is not entirely safe a tank can break down the door and waste your team, so if your team is getting annihilated and you escape back there and shut the door with a plan to slowly kill the tank through the little window in the door think again.

2. Tank will fit through subway toll booth window.

3. If you stay on the rooftop at the start and dont move from there or anything and you still get attacked eventually. Thats impressive because not many games out there have monsters attack if you just stand about in the starting area or kill everything in an area and hole up there. The AI director at work no doubt.

4. The AI is excellent at following you. That witch for example will chase whoever startled her up stairs, through vents, everywhere. I havent seen it get stuck yet.

I've learned a few things from hosting dedicated servers.

1. The servers automatically get filled, even if you password them before they heartbeat

2. Passwords work about 50% of the time, but mostly don't work at all.

3. You have to let some pubbers join before passwording and joining your own dedicated server, otherwise it goes into hibernation and doesn't respond to connection attempts

4. Any updates to Steam totally kill dedicated servers, to where they are still running but don't use any CPU or I/O bandwidth

5. Servers can handle about 500 zombies before lagging out, but don't crash fully and come back after a couple minutes (server running on rig in sig)

Will post more as I run into it.

How do you get 500 zombies? I call mobs and they only come one at a time :'( I think the director cuts it off... Anyway, I have spawned a many zombays... But it never lags because of them, it'll always lag out if I drop A LOT of items. (Big ol' pile)

Anyway, I like playing the infected sometimes... Wish I could be a witch though.

First, type sv_cheats 1 in console, then z_add will spawn a regular zombie at your crosshairs. Bind it to a key to do it without going into console.

I dont understand all the lusting over Valve and Steam. They have what, 2 games under their belt, everything else they release are someone elses mods or sequals to mods or graphical updates to mods.

Steam is a ripoff.Games usually cost the same or sometimes more than if you were to buy the actual retail package.Left 4 Dead looks good though, maybe even great.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure how I feel having paid $45 for L4D. On one hand, I love zombie anything, and L4D certainly has the best presentation and feel of any zombie game I've ever played.

On the other hand, it costs more than twice what TF2 does if you buy it alone.

L4D is decent... but it only really shines if you can play with friends. Fortunately, the 4-player coop is really conducive to making new Steam friends, so eventually there'll always be a fun group to play with.

Edit: If we're really lucky, it'll be well-supported with mods and addons, and we'll see lots of new zombie types and tons of new weapons. One thing I'm finding is that there's very little difference between weapons. The M16 is pretty much the same as an Uzi, and the auto-shotgun just fires faster than the regular shotgun.

I like it as well.. but as I mentioned in the other thread. It would be really nice if the other players flashlights cast visible light.

Im a little confused about the nature of L4D. I know a large aspect of the game is the 4 player co-op, but is it single player as well? Can you play offline or is it like CS or TF2 where you can only join a server and play online?

Also, when playing online, do you play against other players who control the zombies or is it essentially your team of 4, versus AI controlled zombie hordes? Do you ever get to go face to face with other players online?

I could probably find this info out there but ive searched around and it would be nice if one of you educated demo-ers could enlighten me.

You can play single player which is the same as online but the AI controls the 3 other squad members, which i have to say its very good at doing.

In the full game 4 players can be survivors and theres a certain game mode where 4 people can also join as boss zombies, they can play as the tank, boomer, smoker and hunter.

Well 2 awesome games are far better than 10 mediocre games or 20 crap games. Plus valve know what makes a game fun, unlike some developers *cough* EA *cough*.

I've done that... The zombies disappear before you get anywhere near 500. The director takes them away.

You can play online.

Basically AI controls stupid zombies and you can play as the Super Boss zombies on the infected team. Yes, face to face you can do that.

I've played teh demo out of meh mind... IT SUCKS! I beat it on Normal in less than 10 minutes the first time through... The first level was like, maybe two minutes long? It was SUPER SHORT... I was like, "The zombies, they die so fast..." Then the second level was just as easy, I was like... "Wow, that's it? FUCK THIS SHIT"

IF ANYONE WANTS TO PLAY WITH ME, PLAY INFECTED, WHATEVER... STEAM ID: TridenTBoy I have my own dedicated server, that we can join woot-woot.

Ahh yeah I was playing on my server with some clan mates and one of them was messing around with the director, so maybe he disabled something. I'll ask him when I talk to him next. But on the apartment level, we had the street absolutely packed with zombies. Then some poor sap joined (thanks to passwords not working STILL :|) so we spawned a boomer right next to him, who promptly puked on him and all the zombies went nutso after him. Poor pubber

I've noticed a lot of people are real noobs. I saw some people join my server and went in and played with them, like I was a random. I just went through the first level blazing it up and the guy is like, "What the fuck are you doing? You're an idiot, that's not how you play the game." WTF? They were not even killing many zombies... Like I was way ahead of them and the area was clear for them to proceed... (They didn't follow me for some reason) I'm sorry, I'm killing zombies too fast for you. >_< They left the server after that.

You are absolutely right even though you were being sarcastic, BF2 was a POS and it took a 1 GB patch to make it into a stable mediocre online shooter which is what it remains as today.

The M16 is a superior weapon to the Uzi. Try actually aiming with it an you'll see it's a head shot machine and as an added bonus even eclipses the rifle at a distance.
