The demo just started crashing on me consistently seemingly out of the blue, hope I can figure out the cause of the instability, and hopefully there is a fix for it. Played the hell out of it the past few days and didn't have this problem...but now I can play through once or twice and then it'll crash on me, done it about 4 times tonight thus far. Would be a bitch and a half to start to get into the game, get decently far on expert, and then crash right before the end of a level.

It's weird that there are so many crashing issues. It's built off of Source, so how much could they really have changed the engine?

I'll agree w/ Smilin, $50 seems a little steep. I'll wait for it to be on sale.

I'm having crashes galore. I was definitely going to buy it, but now, probably not, I mean I can barely play a level or two without crashes.

I've never had it crash on me, even with my old ass system.
It comes and goes, and I have no idea what's causing it. heh. If I did it'd atleast be better.

My guess is that the crashes might have something to do with the way the servers/multiplayer connections work, apparently there were a lot of people yesterday experiencing a lot of crashing...

I played a solid 3 hours or so today and was smooth as butter/stable as a rock. Also, come to think of it, I've never had problems when playing single player...granted I only played through it once on a single player, because this game is all about the co-op.

I played a lot yesterday and never crashed once on me. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Same. I think their "update" broke the fuck out of the demo. I played it a bunch last weekend with no problems. It updated tonight and now nothing works. Awesome.

Update? They've updated probably 20 times in the past couple days.

Yes well, being employed full time, I don't exactly have the luxury of logging on on an hourly basis. You'll pardon my ignorance.

The only problem(or annoyance) I had was with the length of time it took to go from Lobby to Game. Besides that I've enjoyed both Single and Multiplay. Once the other Maps are added into the mix it should give at least an hour(guess) of play from start to finish each round.

That left me with a curious question I always wondered. What is the maximum amount of bandwidth that steam servers can saturate ? There has to be a limit. Anyone on FIOS who downloads steam games ? What is your constant maximum speed you get ? I know there has to be a speed limit of how fast you can download from steam unless it depends on how many people are downloading from the steam servers at once on what the limit may be.

It depends heavily on how many people are downloading.

Yeah. So what do you think is the maximum speed someone on 30 mbps/5 mbps FIOS can get on steam when downloading at the least busiest time ?

No idea... stuck on 5mbps/512kbps cable

hey check this out. seems like you can do many things including 200 zombie rushes non stop.

Yeah i spawned like 200 witches onetime then startled them and the game crashed, played as a tank too, had a tank vs tank battle which was really boring lol. They patched this though i think, like a day ago.

The hunter is a lot of fun, you are pretty helpless as a boomer or a smoker because their spit and snag abilities take a while to charge before use. So if you try to snag someone with the smokers tongue and miss... run away because they will come and kick your ass

Are there no reviews up for L4D yet? It's coming out in 2 days and there are no reviews. Usually there is at least one or two reviews out by this time. I really want to know if it's worth the $50 with all maps/8player. From the demo it feels like a $20-$30 game.

yea while i enjoyed the demo, i think 50 bucks are too much to pay for a zombie mod. especially the way consumers are feeling about spending money right now, 50 bucks is way too much.

Just finished a game where for the first time I was able to play with 3 of my friends who I knew would work as a truly good team even though two of them were relatively new. Playing through on expert, we encountered a witch and luckily there were the upgraded weapons relatively nearby so we all grabbed sniper rifles to see how fast we could bring her down. It was so gratifying how fast the ownage was as we coordinated our attack in a firing squad fashion - she dropped before she could fully get up to charge us.

Can't wait to play the full game as well as some vs. mode with some really good coordination tactics. Right now we like to use a buddy system where two players always stick together and cover each other, one pair often leading the charge forward, with the other covering the rear and doing mop-up. The buddy system is crucial to counter smokers and hunters as well as general watch-your-back duties.

Then there's the weapon tactics that can make things extremely interesting:
Pistols are obvious bread and butter as they include infinite ammo, and once you can collect two pistols you can lay down a decent base of fire to rival your main weapon, great for clearing out loitering zombies especially with their decent accuracy at range, especially when crouched.

Shotgun is easily the best weapon for close range and dealing with masses of enemies as you can hit more than one zombie at once - the upgraded automatic shotgun can absolutely lay waste to zombie zerg rushes, another great thing about the shotgun is that its accuracy never changes whether your moving full speed or crouched in a corner, you can always depend on it acting the same.

SMG and Assault rifle make great support weapons as they're best for quickly rescuing players attacked by smokers and hunters should the player being attacked be relatively far away (if a hunter jumps on a player right next to you, you can just melee it off with no risk of damage to your teammate). Team damage, especially on expert, can actually be worse than what the zombies are capable of, and covering your teammate with shotgun fire is far from ideal - this is where these weapons are best. Headshots are also effective with these much more accurate ranged weapons, and are safer for use when taking down bosses like the tank or witch (shotguns require you to be a bit too close for comfort to be truly effective)

Hunting rifle is basically a one shot kill weapon to normal zombies, the ultimate support weapon, however unlike the SMG or assault rifle, you're pretty screwed if you need to use it on the run or against swarming masses from multiple directions - if you can get the swarm to bottle neck, you can shoot through targets to take out several at once. Use the scope drop 15 zombies from a distance as fast as you can accurately aim and click.

Molotovs - I don't really like these that much, but that's because players don't know how to use them, they're great for defensive purposes but I always see them used on the offensive, and they usually end up hurting more than helping. These are best used to create barriers of fire to either keep zombies at bay or kill them as they charge through (seeing as how only a few of the bosses will show any sort of survival tactics)

Pipe bomb - the only 'grenade' that should be used on the offensive, however it is also best saved for the defensive. The pipe bomb will beep loudly when deployed, attracting zombies towards it. This can be used to quickly clear out heavily infested rooms, or better yet (seeing as how a little patience and pistols can do the same job) the pipe bomb can be saved for zombie zerg rushes to divert their attention from attacking and overwhelming your group.

Can't wait to see what new weapons (and thus strats/tactics) are available in the full game...

I don't know if there are any new weapons in the game. It says, 10 new weapons but... it also says 20 new maps but there are only 20 in the full game... So I am assuming they f-ed up both. Five maps per level, from what I know and there are four levels.

I believe Valve stated that at the time of release there would only be 20 maps (4 campaigns) and the weapons we've already seen in the demo.

However, they also said that they would likely be adding in new weapons later on through updates, and also possibly adding new campaigns.
