I am tempted to get both this and the OnePlus One (work & personal phones) but I would like to know how good LG's support/customer service is now?

A few years back I had a torrid time with LG and dropped every LG product from my life as a result, might be worth going back if they're good enough.

No, you can't confirm. The Adreno 420<?> in the Snapdragon 801 (or 805) is significantly powerful than the Mali 400 in the Exynos 5 Dual. Even the Adreno parts in the Snapdragon 600 will have little issue working a 1440p display.

Is this really going to actually have a removable battery? The G2's was integrated, was it not? Seems like when phones get these massive 3000mah+ juice packs, they're integrated. Also, with the volume rocker on the back of the phone, would that effect the mechanism for the volume?

Exynos 5250 is Mali T604 Quad (approx 3x faster than Mali-400MP4) & the SD 801 is Adreno 330 (clock increased) the SD 805 is Adreno 420.

I don't think it will be a lag fest but I do think it will have to run at 720p/1080p in some "high end" games to get acceptable performance.

I'm really liking the industrial design, but I'm not sure about the gold version. LG has really come a long way in the past couple of years. My only qualm is the screensize is a bit larger than I'd like.

This is why Samsung just canned their head of mobile design. LG can fit a 5.5" 1440p display in a smaller package than they can fit a 5.1" 1080p display.

"Smaller" is an interesting way of saying "larger in every dimension".

Yeah not sure how a phone that's larger than the substantial M8 is going to really be a direct competitor. The M8 is disproportionately large due to the speakers and wasted space. Being as tall and substantially wider and thicker will make it feel like a phablet. Of course you get the larger screen and I guess LG hopes that most people want a small phablet as their primary phone. Jury's out on whether they're right.

Its not wasted space.

Let's hope LG are using something better than Android for this. Here's hoping its Windows Phone or something else better that we haven't seen yet.

Shrug, as far as mobile operating systems go, there's nothing else better than Android right now. iOS is a distance second and Windows Phone is still trying to be considered not a joke. The G3 will most assuredly be Android based, with LG's 'Home' skin on top. Or whatever LG is calling their UI these days.

Very nice indeed, if the back is metal then it won't have nfc, so most likely it'll be plastic.

My bad, you're right. The 5250 used the T604. Still older and slower than the Adreno 320/330/420/430 skus though. The Adreno 320 paired with the Snapdragon 600 in my One m7 has no problems with any 1080p game I've played on it, though, admittedly, I don't play games on my phone very often.

Pretty certain that it is plastic and I doubt that it will look quite as good as those promo shots but it should still be a nice looking handset.

I'm mostly just worried about the UI LG puts on Android and all the bloatware. This is why I keep going back to wanting a Nexus 6/Android Silver/whatever the latest rumor is saying with stock Android.

I could root/flash a rom, but haven't ever done that, coming over from an iPhone. I'm very comfortable doing all that between my previous windows with ubuntu, mac, previously jailbroken iPhone, and nexus 7... but unsure of how stable it could/would be long term.

While this phone does seem big (what everyone is putting out now), it seems it will be not as tall as the m8, and wider. For some reason a wider phone that isn't as tall (even if its 0.05 difference) seems more manageable. I see the m8 and think I'm going to drop it. Its thinner design makes it even just *look* taller.

Rooting won't make any difference to stability, what you do afterwards is a different matter however.

Be honest ... you hate it because it has a uSD slot!

The 2K display has about 78% more pixels then phones that have 1080P screens and they have been on the market for a couple years now. The SoC and display hardware have had a couple generations of upgrades since them.

Will it take more cpu power to draw the display -- yes, of course. Will it be a show stopper -- not likely!

Brian

 you are still pissed at the uSD argument? Bad joke if that's your original intention.

As far as SoC having enough for that much pixel, we won't know until it comes out. You are simply speculating. The only fact is 2K will require much more SoC power to run smoothly than 1080P.

Don't a bunch of tablets have 1440p screens already? They seem to do OK even without the absolute newest S801. I imagine the S805 won't have any issues with the resolution. Anyone with experience with a Samsung pro tablet?
