Maybe it is me but how is this an improvement over the G2? Almost the exact same silicon. Bigger screen but you are also getting half a cm wider to accommodate the bigger screen.

I rather have the smaller one.

It is prettier than the g2 but that isn't what I am going to based my decision off of.

Can somebody please explain why LG didn't go with snapdragon 805? Was it because of lacking LTE functionality?

I expect the camera to provide a world of difference. Laser auto-focus means you take focused pictures the instant you touch your screen. Improving the OIS is also a much better way to improve the picture quality than upping the megapixel count.

aside from the narrow bezels the LG G2 looks outright... homely. If not ugly when its covered in finger gunk. The new back cover fixes another of it's top three problems.

UI looks like a major improvement too, especially if they took their own mantra of applying simplicity seriously and reduced the clutter of optimus UI.

I'm definitely getting the 3GB/32GB version. Any news about US unlocked version launch?

Damn this thing looks sweet. The physical size is about the same with the Xperia Z2, but it has 0.3" more screen!

It maintains the minimum bezel as the G2 and managed to look prettier, too. I love it!

The best thing about the G2 was the fact that you could find that phone everywhere for a really, really cheap price. I mean even on Swappa, you could get that phone for around $200-300. That could be because it wasn't as wanted as a Samsung device. I'm hopeful it'll keep the same pricing in case I want to switch. That phone does look like a great Android device.

nothing about the 3GB/32GB "super" model

All big 4 going to have it, t-mobile/sprint have some free G3s to give away

Apparently it's launched in Korea.

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g3_full_specs_leak_ahead_of_announcement-news-8580.php

Insanely thin bezels. It's gonna be like carrying a screen. (538 PPI!)

not sure about the almost lack of bezels.. some bezel is useful when using/hodling the device

Can somebody please explain why LG didn't go with snapdragon 805? Was it because of lacking LTE functionality?

people say 805 can be LTE-capable... dunno why

I was thinking they would introduce 805 in the g3 but nevertheless the phone looks really great.I don't like the launcher though but I might like it when I actually use it.

It's frustrating when I see a phone improve upon problem areas, then make a change to something that was perfectly fine and made it worse, it's like two steps forward and one step back.

For me, I don't like what they did with the bezels. First I love that LG has been making minimal bezels, that's good, G2 was great in that respect. However what is with the design of the bezel on the G3? They have black trim around the top and sides of the display, then have this silver plastic chin on the bottom of the phone with a white logo on it? I prefer the bezel to all be black, the screen blends it better that way. But if you are going to add color to the bezel at least be uniform about it.

Thank good the glossy plastic has been replaced with faux metal plastic. My favorite is the soft touch plastic on the Nexus 5. I wish LG would copy it's own phone instead of HTC's. But the faux metal design looks okay as well.

Kinda surprised by the pairing of the 1440p display with the Snapdragon 801. Seems like they should have waited for the 805 with the much more powerful GPU.

Overall it's a nice looking phone. But nothing to get me excited.

This will be my next device. Probably dropping Verizon in the process to go to AT&T.

805 needs an external modem which makes the platform more power hungry for one of the key aspects of a smartphone, cellular connectivity. I am not sure it's worth the trade off, then again, same could be said about the 2K on a phone, but at-least this will drive the prices down for "lesser" displays.

If the G3 is in fact using the same old IMX135 camera sensor as the G2 and the Galaxy S4 I'm pretty disappointed (Edit: wrong, apparently only one version of the S4 used the IMX135, the one we have used the IMX091PQ). The OnePlus One and Find 7/7a are both using the updated IMX214, yet the G3 is supposed to be the premium phone.

(This is in regards to the Anandtech preview article)

Edit: after seeing some real results and comparisons, so far it looks like the G3's quality is quite good, and perhaps it's due to much better software processing than the G2. Doing some comparisons of the IMX135 and IMX214 it actually doesn't seem like IQ wise there's that much of a difference. And this makes sense -- these are still small smartphone camera sensors, there's only so much you can do with them. Software processing shows the biggest difference. Getting the white balance, exposure, saturation, and contrast down right is what's most important.

Definitely a looker. Any word on the sound quality from it? I understand the G2's speaker was rather anemic.

Samsung, HTC, and LG now have their flags out. Still waiting on Motorola. And Apple, I suppose, if you're interested in 18 month old hardware. Shrug.

Right now, the G3 and m8 are my front runners to replace my m7.

But the G3 won't have the Exynos 5 Dual, it'll probably have the SnapDragon 801...
Right but the Exynos 5 should've been sufficient to power that thing.

With that said, I think Android will continue improving (hopefully) the lag situation.

So despite using the IMX214, I think there was some talk that the camera was so-so on the OnePlus One. The sensor size is 1/3" right? So that doesn't build too much confidence either considering the GS5 is 1/2.6"

I imagine there will be an 805 with an integrated modem sometime in the future though? Maybe at first they just have a tablet SoC. Beware of the external modem though. If improperly implemented (a la Nexus 4), you could have unnecessary battery drain.

I might be in the minority but I find OIS much more important on a phone camera than the sensor at this point. It'll never capture images as good as my DSLR but then if I was going to be taking pictures, I bring my DSLR. When I do happen to use my phone, it's for quick shots and I'll take a stable and clear shot as a priority, especially considering the usage I put camera pictures to (send to friends, upload to facebook etc). If I wanted the clearest and most accurate picture possible I don't think at all of picking a phone.

I know this doesn't apply to everyone.

Camera is probably the last thing I worry about on my phone.

I suppose the S5 Prime and M8 Prime are still possibilities for this year.

I've always been a fan of the G2 and the G3 looks fantastic overall. However I'm still trying to figure out what it wants to be. While screen to size ratio is fantastic, there's no getting around that it's a serious handful. Now that's somewhat mitigated by the current 5" flagships getting bigger (mostly due to waterproofing), but it's still on the largest side. I really felt the S5 was as big as a mainstream phone should get (a maybe even a tad too large) and personally would have given up the waterproofing for smaller bezels. The G3's extra width makes it pretty much a phablet like 2 hands phone.

So if it crosses the 2 hands line, then why not just go phablet all the way. A 'small' phablet is a funny space to me. I wouldn't mind the Note 4's screen being a bit larger than the Note 3 as long as the body size doesn't go up.

I see it as a phone that is big enough, but also fits comfortably in any pocket I happen to have free at the time. I think something in the range of 6" starts to get too big. The Note 3 for example doesn't work in some of my pockets. The G3 seems just small enough that I could make it work.

In my eyes LG beat out HTC and Samsung, that is one gorgeous phone, love those slim bezels! It's too bad I'm already set on a 1+1, but if I were to get any other phone it would be the G3 without question.

The more I look at this phone the more I'm warming up to it. First I saw all the videos of the silver one. And it really didn't excite me in it's looks category. I really didn't like that silver bottom bezel. But I just a hands on with the white one and it doesn't have that faux brushed metal look, just solid white. Sadly it still has a white bottom bezel, but to me it looks a bit better than the faux silver did.

I still haven't seen a good hands on video of the back model. From LG's dark video (so it's hard to see how the phone really looks, great job) it appears the black has the brushed metal look, not flat black sadly.

I just saw this 5.5 inch phone is the same size as the 5.1 inch Galaxy S5. Really nice job on those slim bezels LG. Samsung bloated up their phone with water proofing, I'd rather take my chances and have the slimmer bezels and larger screen on same sized phone.

I'm undecided on the removable battery. It's a trade off, smaller size for the luxury of being able to remove it. Had it been non-removable, they could have put a slightly larger battery in with the same dimensions. Guess I'd just need to buy a spare battery and turn that into a positive.

I'm not going to salivate and beg on a forum for an "invite" to buy a product. Either you want my money or you just don't. I'm not joining a fan club to get a phone nobody has touched.

That's why the OnePlusOne was never even a consideration for me. It's unproven, with very little info available. At least LG has a bit of a reputation.

Yeah, a shame about the One+1. It's a tiny company, they won't be able to get them built fast enough. By the time it's available to the general public, I'm not sure it's going to be anything special anymore. Technology moves fast.
