I have yet to see a review from a reputable site that covers the most widely available version (at least in the UK) which is the nasty 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage version. Going to the 3GB variant adds ~20% to the costs (£29.99-36.49) and a larger upfront fee (£29.99 - 89.99). Ironically I nearly bought this phone on June 30th in the last day of a sale (no upfront & £27.99 24 month contract) and it's just as well I didn't on the basis of the AT review.

With ART on the doorstep 16GB really has to go the way of the dinosaurs in the top end models and dropped to mid range at best.

seeing as you can replace the battery in this thing, why not just buy a larger battery that makes the phone marginally thicker and all of this really becomes a non issue. assuming its even an issue to begin with

Is there one available?

seems like I'd rather have the G2 than G3 b/c of battery life and display and size. I will be sticking with the Nexus5. If only I could figure out how to get 5hr screen on time again...

I have a G2, I want the MicroSD card and swappable battery that the G3 brings.

Camera looks better as well.

Hell, everything apart from the screen is better.

Looks like those high res screens just weren't quite ready for release.

Maybe not, but a double-size ZeroLemon battery should fix things quite nicely. They just have to start making one.

If battery life is going to suffer for the sake of a higher resolution screen that may not even be noticeable, then I'd rather stick with 1080p. Also, I'd hate to compensate for the worse battery life with a much bigger (and heavier) battery. Not worth it.

If you want more battery life you can always use a powerbank as a substitute for on-the-go battery replaceability. And for long term longevity issues the G2's battery is quite easy to replace; I've done it several times.

For extra storage space you can also use things like the Corsair Voyager GO (tiny USB drive up to 64GB with a micro-usb and regular usb pin)

Wasn't there this belief that the iPhone lacked NFC support because it was metal and not plastic?

Man LG really didn't need the 1440p screen to have the best flagship phone this year - the things you give up aren't huge, but still disappointing from the standout G2.
- less bright and lower contrast screen - not going to be very good outdoors
- backwards in battery life, though still decent
- pretty aggressive screen and SOC throttling

Still a great phone, but I agree with the conclusion. All flagships are flawed in some way and equal to each other - no standout.

Reality is, all these pushes for better benchmarks and specifications have been mostly meaningless since the GS3 and One X which still run butter smooth to this day. After that, 100% of the focus should have been battery life and better construction.

The fact that the G3 has a removable battery, makes the battery benchmarks much less important to me.

That being said, it doesn't appear that the resolution for battery life tradeoff was a great decision. I imagine they believe that marketing the screen will pay in the sales figures.

Which Galaxy S3 were you using that runs better smooth? They couldn't even do that on launch day.

My GS3 was ok at first and when I put slimmer roms and AOSP based roms on there it was smooth, but I ended up with problems with apps crashing from what I believe was lack of memory.

I run a One X which has the same specifications I believe, butter smooth. If your GS3 is laggy, probably due to Samsung's UI which can easily be flashed over, HTC Sense runs great for me.

Not so easily depending. Most AT&T and Verizon Samsungs are locked down pretty tight. As in encrypted bootloaders.

When it comes to the s5 there are ways to root any of them on a stock ROM earlier than June. You can find a stock ROM to Odin in, root that with towel root app that doesn't require a restart, then Odin on a custom recovery and flash a rooted rom based on a newer release.

I don't know what your idea of buttery smooth is but I still the One S which has the exact internal as the One X minus the 720P screen. So in theory the S should be faster because of less pixels to push but its no where near buttery smooth.
The speed difference between the G2 and One S is night and day.

Can you install CyanogenMod on the s5?
