the collector assault rifle is epic. it's basically the damage of the vindicator but with a faster ROF and a shitpile of ammo. if you're playing soldier, it's the weapon of choice. on lower difficulty levels, you won't even need your teammates.

but collector SMG...what? where do you get that?

It's in a museum area of the Kasumi DLC. It's on one of the display stands

So I played the Kasumi DLC. It's nice Nothing extraordinary, but enjoyable. Playing as a Soldier on Insanity now, I found it not very challenging... Died twice I think, at the very end (got cocky ). Ammo was kinda low, but that's it.

However, her voice annoys me very much. It has a very childish tone and the way she talks about her items in her room sounds very immature and naive (not the things, the way she talks about them).

However, at a price of two beers - worth it

i really like her voice. can't put my finger on why. she definitely doesn't sound like a child, but i guess her inflections could have that effect.

the end of her loyalty mission seemed pretty hard to me. not insanely so, but hard, nonetheless. really felt like they wanted to step it up and give you a challenge.

the great part, however, is the new SMG and kasumi as a squadmate. overload plus flashbang makes her quite potent, then throw in her shadow strike deal, and she's damn good. i just did garrus's loyalty mission with her, and a bunch of overload plus concussive blast, flashbang, and rapid shadow strike was effing fun. who needs biotics?

oh, and speaking of voices, what the fuck was with that hock guy? he sounded like a mix of equal parts scottish, russian, and retard.

LOL, I had the same reaction. At first I thought it was Scottish, but then he talks more and it just sounds like some Scottish guy trying to do a Russian accent .

So Overlord DLC hit XBL earlier this week. Being a ME2 fan, I immediately downloaded it and... what a blast! Well written, plenty of fights, some M-44 driving and shooting and jumping (which is actually fun now). The story and graphics are homage to another great game imo,
System Shock 2
(tags as to not spoil the story, perhaps). Anyway, best DLC for ME2 without a doubt. It's way way better than the boring Firewalker and only mildly entertaining Kasumi's Memories. Also, somewhat longer Highly recommended!

Nice... makes me want to buy it right now.

But, I'm gonna hold off until most of the DLCs are released so I can play it all on one playthrough.

BTW, how long would you say the DLC is?

I just started ME2 myself, good game so far although I'm already to
the planet where the Collectors attack Ashley
and I'm still not quite sure what's going on!

I don't like the relative lack of weapons thus far and while scanning planets for resources was actually alot of fun at first it lost it's loster after the 30th planet...

Still, fun so far, hate that I only rented it and will have to return it next week, especially since I'm gone all weekend and can't play.

I didn't clock my game. But on Insanity with my Soldier it took 4 hours? I took my time though (didn't want to die even once so I was a bit more careful - I did kick the bucket several times though ).

As for waiting, it's my 6th playthrough And there will probably be more So it's not like I'm missing out on anything. Also you can always play your other characters, that already finished the main plot. The game doesn't force you to finish after the main story line. Or start with them again on a higher difficulty (if you didn't start with Insanity). I did that with the Soldier (was my first char so no DLC actually and now I'm replaying with him on Insanity).

Yea, I've done two playthroughs so far... but I want the third to encompass everything.

Did you ever play ME1? I know I'd be lost playing ME2 if I hadn't played ME1 the month before ME2 came out.

I did play ME1 but it was almost 2 years ago so I don't remember exactly what happened. I remember the basic plot though.

I just started playing this a couple days ago. Seems OK so far, but which moron decided they needed to add ammo to the system? It adds nothing to the game other than a requirement to run around after a fight and find the shit people dropped. I loved the lack of ammo in ME1. Also, they could have simply fixed the inventory system rather than scrapping it entirely. Seems like for everything they improved (no more elevators or wandering aimlessly in the Mako) they screwed something else up (requiring ammo and a pathetic skill tree)

I'm inclined to agree with you on pretty much all of that (and I noticed just yesterday that you were playing it when I got online).

For this game style ammo should either be plentiful or non-required. Reloading? Sure, why not, but running out of ammo on my assault rifle and pistol leaves me short on options...

Glad the elevators are gone and with the game installed to my HDD the load times aren't too terrible, although not great. Uninstalled it takes forever!

I sort of miss the inventory system, I've got two assault rifles and have no clue if one is better than the other. I sort of like "upgrading" to better weapons as I progress throughout the game, not just getting something that adds damage. Another +1 to the skill tree, it is lacking.

Well, I'd say the skill trees offer variance on several of the classes. It really gives you different ways of ripping through enemies (more solo, more group, single DMG, AoE, variation for the extra power). I would of course like for an inventory to be present, but this way the game is more realistic. I mean, how many armors or weapons can you drag around? Though I would love for some stats on the weapons: DMG, recoil, ROF etc. However, you can find all that on the Wiki

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Weaponry_Comparison

Take note that it does contain spoilers. Also, click for each category to have more details on every weapon from that type (very cool). Wish all that was in-game though

I really don't like the armor customization. The gameplay differences are hardly noticeable, no matter what you wear. So it's mostly for the looks - I seriously hope they rethink this for ME3. More influence on the shields, perhaps another true armor layer and after that 2-3 shots and you're dead. Perhaps lower the % on the upgrades and allow for more armor and weapon customization through picked up mods? Finding different material composition to upgrade your armors? The Normandy can replicate pretty much everything. Or something. I really like the fact that you're not a warehouse like in ME1. But customization suffered too much imo. They need to strike a better balance.

Also, I don't mind the ammo. It's actually pretty cool, forces you to use different weapons. I'm playing a Solider on Insanity now and I didn't run out of ammo once (hell, it's part of the class to use different weapons based on enemies and their defenses... which is fun ). And I'm almost done with my playthrough. You guys do know you have to aim at the enemies, right? On Adept and Sentinel (Sentinel being most fun class IMO) I hardly used guns... Infiltrator has 3 different guns, plenty to deal with anything (especially using the Locust SMG for non-sniping action). Didn't play Vanguard. Not planning on doing it

I'm playing the Infiltrator I imported from ME1 and so far it's not nearly as much fun. The SMG blows, IMO, and the pistol and sniper rifle run out of ammo so fast it's ridiculous.

I found the SMG lacking until I got the Tempest SMG on a mission. Its spits out a ton of rounds and once you have a few damage upgrades, you will shred many targets in close to mid-range.

I was a soldier in ME1 and imported it to ME2. Haven't had any issues yet except
the boss part where you're recruiting the Krogan, the Krogans kept flanking me and blasting me...not sure why I had to many issues
.

Spoiler tags for where to get the other 2 SMGs:

1.
- Tempest SMG - Tali's recruitment mission, it's on the ground after the first huge area you clear (just before talking to the first quarians on the radio)
2.
- Locust SMG - Kasumi's Memories - DLC, 560 MS points, on a stand next to the item you're looking for on her mission, inside the vault

Both of them offer a significant boost over the initial SMG. Since you can't get the first one early in the game, I'd say go for the second one (as it's available from the start, technically). Be warned though that this mission is TOUGH. Especially at the very end Lots of fun

Also, buy/research the SMG +dmg upgrades ASAP. The second special one offers either +50% or even double ammo count (can't remember now). As for the pistol, yes, it has low ammo. Not much can be done about it (it does have quite a punch though, so just aim better ).

You're missing out. I've played through as a Soldier, a Sentinel, and a Vanguard, and Vanguard was by far the most challenging and the most fun. It's challenging because you don't have a whole lot of health like the Sentinel, and you don't have access to the ARs like the Soldier, so your initial firepower is lacking. But once you level up your phase-charge and get a shotgun, it's ridiculous. You just Jedi-warp-slam into dudes faces and give 'em buck shot at close range. So gratifying.

I got ME2CE on the Steam sale together with ME1. I might do a ME1 + ME2 run with a Vanguard. But the shotguns are somewhat lacking imo. I like a challenge, but I hate if the game is frustrating Most fun class for me is a Sentinel with Reave Closely followed by a Soldier with Warp Ammo.

Warp ammo? That must be sometime in my future (or a DLC pack).

Finally reached the missions where I can earn people's loyalty, only done Jack, Miranda, and...the Ceberus operative guy (I can never remember his name). Still got 3 or so people left to recruit I think. Unfortunatly I have to return the game to the library tomorrow...guess I'll have to check it out again.

So I picked this game up as it's tough to say no when K-Mart is selling it for $20. Finally fired it up yesterday and wow I'm enjoying this more than the first one, mainly because the combat is superior. It's still pretty early but I've added Archangel and the merc to my crew and am working on the doc now. Can't wait for this to really get going once I've assembled everyone.

It's not an FPS at all. You stay in 3rd person the entire game... so I'm not sure what you're getting at.
