basic questions about the movie that have been discussed ad nauseum:

is the real world really real or another part of the matrix?
are neo, morpheus and/or trinity real or just programs acting out their routines as they were written by matrix?
what is truth about seraph, merovingian, oracle, architect, agent smith and the other bit players.


my basic questions and feelings are this:

1. why do the machines have to dig to get to zion? the humans can get there w/o digging, why do the machines have to? even if it was because the humans have the entrances heavily guarded, the machines could easily overrun them. one wave of machines to take the emp and zion is down, the next wave comes in a wipes them out while they're defenseless.

2. I dont think I believe the "real world" is really another part of the matrix. although, its an interesting and certainly plausible theory, I just cant believe it would be that simple. although, I could be wrong and it would explain some things that we wont know until revolutions comes out.

3. I dont think I believe neo, morpheus and/or trinity are programs. they have emotions and can feel love, 2 things the architect eluded to that the machines are not able to understand. for instance, persephone keeps trying to "feel love" but it seems like she can't. but, she did make comments like the one about merovingian once being like neo and that the love trinity and neo feel for each other is not made to last. what do these comments mean?

4. agent smith getting out of the matrix and neo being able to stop the sentinels. I think the deal with agent smith is simple, hes still acting on his original programming routine, find and destroy zion. when he was destroyed by neo in matrix 1, it added new powers and ultimately gave him the ability to implant his routines in a real person?
and neo after visiting the architect "evolved" and is now able to use his abilities outside the matrix? maybe? who knows

cant wait for revolutions to come out and clear all of this up. I would like a surprise ending, one where everything is different than what we have been led to believe, it would fit with the overall theme of the movies.

I read it all too most of it's interesting...

The thing is Neo was the One then too....perhaps the 4th iteration.

What I am thinking is the One came before him, but changed....(Mervogian, maybe others could have been pre-One's)..however Neo was reborn and was still The One.

I think it's based on code and Neo seems to have the better code base or support perhaps so he perpetuates. I believe the key to the movie is to ignore the religious ties except for hints at the character (niobe is probably going to cause some deaths) and pay attention to the way programs work. I think the Wach Bros thought about what if life was just a program running on some machine somewhere.

It wouldn't be so farfetched considering we are bio-electrically powered.

I finally saw the movie yesterday, and nearly fell asleep twice. It was not TOO bad, but would have been a whole lot better had they trimmed it by 20-30 minutes. I can't help but believe that most of the praise comes from dedicated fanboys, because IMO the film was a major disappointment.

I think after the war (explained in the first movie), machines and humans needed each other to survive the scorched earth...so they concocted this Matrix to both of their benefits - with Architect put in charge to keep the "crops" alive as best as his programming would allow. Only a small percentage of humans can be allowed outside of the Matrix because of sustainability concerns. The concillor said men and machines must co-exist to survive. The architect said he will not see Neo again, which suggests the role of the Matrix has been completed and possibly suggests the surface is returning to habitability. The 3rd movie will see the good machines vs. the bad, and the humans all at war to see who gets to return to the surface. The men will win...but only Neo and Trinity will make it to the surface before the rest are destroyed - including the destruction of all machines. Thus, they become Adam and Eve. However, the final scene will show Trinity with a hidden MP3 Player (Eve's "Apple" Ipod) thus suggesting that mankind is starting down the path once again...another revolution.

Of course, like someone has already said, perhaps at the end of Revolutions JR Ewing will wake up from his LSD-laced sleep and realize this whole crazy mess was just a dream of his...

i like the first part of your post. if the first matrix was created by humans and machine so both could exist, it makes perfect sense that the first matrix was a paradise, that is what the humans outside the matrix would want for all of the humans being used as batteries. But maybe when it turns out that humans keep waking up "whole crops lost" that the machines get fed up and reprogram the matrix to be what the world looks like now so less will wake up from it. The humans that were unplugged may not have liked that very much and started the war against the machines again.

I think the only valid explanation is that he wasn't initially designed as part of the program.
Why do you think they go into the whole "Backdoor For Dummy" conversation?
Because he IS the backdoor program.
Then you might ask how come he fights as well as Neo?
Since he is the backdoor program, he is not confined by the rules set forth by the system.

Seraph is not a the "backdoor program", he is the Oracles bodyguard, for lack of a better term. He is yellow because he is a rogue program free of the Matrix (like Merovingian, and the Oracle as well)...The Matrix code (coming from the Source) streams in green, since Seraph and The Oracle are no longer part of the Matrix, their code looks different to Neo.

the cake from the french guy also had that yellow glow

The cake was NOT yellow, it was bright green...I checked on this in subsequent viewings.

I am still surprised at how neo was able to stop the sentinels. Also the fact that one of the agent smith was able to transform into one of them and load onto the minds of people in the 'real world' surprised me. Methinks there is another level of virtual reality present.

i'm really not sure about the rogues all being yellow code, even though it was my first assumption. if i remeber right (i have to see it again) seraph was the only rouge we see as code. can't remember seeing rouge-smith as code...

We never see Agent Smith through Neos eyes in Reloaded (code wise) Only in the Original film if I am not mistaken...which at that point he is still part of the Matrix
