Mariners getting all their HR's out of their system before start of the regular season - 26 so far- next closest is Cleveland @ 19

Nice to see, however I don't hold much hope that it'll transfer to the regular season.

Slightly confused as to why NYY fans such as yourself consider Cano "useless" when he would have been AL MVP if Trout and Cabrera were in the NL last year...

Not a chance. His home run totals are mediocre, his RBI totals have been declining for 5 years, his runs scored are down year over year, he hasn't stolen a base in 3+ years, his defensive statistics are mediocre at base (again, declining since 5 years ago,) his ability to make meaningful hits is terrible, and the list goes on.

I don't understand why people are saying he'll get a $250m 10-year contract. He's not that good. He's not even half that good.

He hit 33 home runs last year and had 94 RBIs and 105 runs. Those aren't even close to MVP numbers.

Maybe I'm missing something..

His RBI's went down last year, but were highest 2 years ago (not even close to declining over the last 5 years)...he's stolen a few bases...career high in runs scored last year

I dunno, I'd love to have .313, 33, 94

Then again, I'm a Mariners fan and those numbers would be astronomical compared to who we've got.

He’s unable to disclose his sources, but Joe’s been right about this type of news before. A full month before the suspension became official last summer, Joe’s anonymous source correctly identified Melky Cabrera as the next big name to be slapped with the 50 game fine.

I'd rather have Jeter numbers than Cano numbers, by a long way. Especially in defense.

The last two years, Cano has been completely incapable of driving in runs when needed. He should be batting 6th or 7th, as he seems to only get hits when the bases are empty.

Huge Reds fan, although I'm still pissed they blew 3 straight home games to the Giants. Major suckjob.

Lemme guess. You hate advanced stats, right?

'Cause sabermetrics hates Jeter on defense.

And Cano still rates higher than Jeter in oWAR as well.

Dude, are you crazy?
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL/2012-other-leaders.shtml

He was 2nd in WAR in all of baseball last year. He even beat the NL MVP (Posey) handily (8.2 vs 7.2). Cano had an all time high in OPS+ of 149, the most total bases in his career at 345, 15 Defensive Runs Saved above average (elite territory), and a dominant 107 tOPS+/.316BA split with Men On. Although you were right about only RISP (.268 and 83 tOPS+), however, this is in line with his career numbers of .274/83 so he excelled with more or less with a guy on first (which in 2012 was way way better than his .293/90 career avg).

All in all he had his best year by far as a Yankee.

And it was still mediocre at best. That's inarguable.

Also, two and three years ago when Brett Gardner's WAR was off the charts, I'm willing to bet that you were right there along with most everyone else saying he was overrated.

Stats can say whatever you want them to. That's their nature.

I'll be glad to see Cano gone.

Gardner's 3.3 WAR wasn't exactly off any charts. And keep in mind that WAR measures how well a player did versus the baseline of the rest of the league. Last year didn't exactly have mind blowing stats so Cano's offensive numbers may not have been considered elite in a hitter's year, but they were elite relative to the rest of the AL. Really his only weakness was hitting with RISP and a stretch to say he wasn't burning the basepaths (since that isn't really his role on the team). He fills the number 3 slot nicely which is to advance the 1 or 2 hitter if they get on base and then let the big guns 4-5 knock all of them in. This is evidenced by his scoring the most Runs in his career (105) and 104, 103, and 103 before that. He consistently produces at the #3 slot and has been doing it for years now.

lol, Santana's already out for the year.

What happens when a team goes beyond funny, sad, ridiculous, cursed...

I mean, what happens next? A plane crashes into Citi field? Jesus Christ, just move the team to Guadeloupe already.

what...the outfield of Lucas Duda, Marlon Byrd, Collin Cowgill, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Jordany Valdespin doesn't pump you up?! I actually find Valdespin entertaining and Cowgill has that "gamer" thing to him but that outfield is brutal.

btw..just looked up Kirk's bio and his full first name is Kirkingator..what a name.
