Ruiz has been a hero this post season. Two great pick off throws to second now.
Cholly loves Chooch.
He's not a premier hitter and never will be, but baseball, over 162 long ones, is a game of fundamentals, and Chooch delivers, together with what is a propensity to step and help the team offensively in the post-season.
THAT is the definition of a gamer.
Wow, do0d before me, that's deep!
And I agree, Chooch is at best a career .265 hitter, with maybe a .280+ season with 16-19 home runs at his best.
So, as good as he is at digging those balls out of the dirt, I hope this is enough to win him a gold glove before his career is over. Repeate post-season exposure never hurts.
You know, Joe Torre won several gold gloves as a Brave @ catcher, pretty much entirely on his offensive output, before he went to St. Louis and won a batting title freed of the tools of ignorance and playing third at something in the .360's -- which is your basic .400 season for any reasonably fast non-ex-catcher, which unfortunately Torre was
n't.
. . . Hell of a season that was, though.
