Lee is trying to win this series by himself.
Let him go another 2 IP and get him out. Save him for Game 7, even if it's just a relief appearance.

He's by far their best defensive CFer, I guess their calculation is that (a) he won't get better with rest and (b) that his defense is still worth having even if his offense completely disappears.
Burnett got absolutely rocked.

Seems like his defense is suffering too. Did you see him catch that fly ball?
I agree completely. I'm not even sure I'd give him 2. If he gets out of the 4th with no more runs, I'd say give him the bench. He will need to pitch, and pitch well, in game 7 if they make it.
The problem is that if the Phillies somehow lost, Manuel would instantaneously lose his job, even though their chances of winning at this point are at 92%.
edit: Victorino "It's not broken. I'm fine." TRANSLATION "It's fucking fractured and hurts like hell. I hope I can still hold on to my bat."
I think it would be great if this series went to 7. Not only because I'm a Philly fan, but I just think a 7 game WS is a wonderful thing.
If only the Phillies could hit over the last 2 games.
No fucking way. Utley is ridiculous. I hope everyone will now realize how fucking good he is.
edit: just to point it out, Utley has been worth between 6.7 - 8.1 Wins Above Replacement over the last 5 seasons. I'm pretty sure the only player with a higher WAR is Pujols.

could you explain WAR? is it as simple as i think it is?
I'd take Utley over that hack Cano any day of the week. Here's hoping the Yankees have some sense and get rid of Cano after his contract is up next year. Maybe they can sign Kinsler or Utley or Roberts or convert a short-stop or catcher or something...anything would be better than Cano.
It's a little complicated, but replacement level basically means a marginal player that a team could pick up at any point during the season (willie bloomquist is often used as an example). It does not mean the average player that starts at a given position for an MLB team. Though the values change depending on the season, on average a replacement level player is worth about -20 runs (2 wins) over the course of ~600 plate appearances. If you are interested, I can point you at some in-depth discussions of the math and theory behind WAR.
Essentially, what we're saying is that Utley, when compared to other 2B players, delivered 8 more wins over a replacement level player over the course of this season.
Edit: so to answer your question, yes it's simple and no, it's not simple
i'd definitely like a link. sabermetrics too, if you have it.
