WTF?

Modern Warfare 2 Throat Communicator

You've not heard of it? Seems like a neat idea except for the fact that it's made by MadCatz and I get the feeling it'll break in half the first time you cought whilst wearing it...

Could it be that they wanted you to destroy 40 equivalent levels of killstreak rewards? So when you take down a heli or something you're credited w/ the 5/7/etc levels it took to get that. Not sure, just thinking out loud here.

It must be something to that effect, but I think you only get half credit or so...IIRC I knifed a sentry gun in the back, instantly destroying it, and for only 3 credits for it. All I know for sure is that it sounded absurdly difficult and would take forever to get pro, but it turned out being by far the easiest.

The stinger launcher is a vast improvement...you get two rockets. It easy to pop uavs out of the sky, it's only one hit with it, but I can't begin to count the number of times I've been shot up while staring at the sky trying to find the things.

Some of the helis and the ac130 are hard to shoot down, they can actually drop chaff an divert the rockets.

Also got nuked for the first time....pretty damn cool, but by then, the match was effectively already lost.

I hope the balance of this game hasn't been moved too far from player shooting skill to killstreak bonuses...

Maybe this was answered before and I missed it. Probably a question for BD exclusively... On local multiplayer splitscreen matches, have they allowed more customization than MW1? In MW1, they had those stupid pre-set packages that couldn't be changed, which I hated. Some friends and I would play a lot of local multiplayer, and that was the biggest downside to it.

You can globally enable is disable xbox live unlocks for the match, but you wont gain any online xp either way. you've got to earn the new stuff online first. So if there's a particular killstreak you really want to see, you can unlock it on xbl, and then gun down your friend over and over.

I would love to play with you guys, but, I cannot play this on XBOX. I'd have to get the PC version. Why oh why can't they play together, or at least release a usable mouse/keyboard for the xbox.

Oh well.

Console players don't want to play against PC gamers, because you'd kick our asses (or force us to use a keyboard and mouse, and if we wanted to do that we'd probably play on PCs)

Was this a response to my question? If so, I'm confused. In MW1, when you played local multiplayer, you didn't have the option to customize your own class with what weapon, what sidearm, and what perks you wanted. They had pre-set class "packages", like one that was called "Sharpshooter" that gave you a sniper, a sidearm, and perks that you could not change. This was for local multiplayer only. I don't know why they had those restrictions.

I still contest that the better console FPS players could hold their own against kb/mouse users, but there has never been a game to incorporate cross-platform play for me to test my theory. Shadowrun might have had it if I'm remembering correctly, but that was so bad that nobody played it. CoD4 controls were so good that playing on a console was a piece of cake.

So who else is pissed about them blocking Party Chat on 360 in most game modes? I understand why they are doing it....sort of. But I have a couple of friends that I always play with, and we always talk and BS during in-between matches and this really F's it up really bad.

I hope in future patches they get rid of it.

Yes. In addition to the standard 5 preset classes, you can take your online custom
classes into local multi. You don't have free reign over customization as if you were lvl 70...you come into local matches with your current online level and classes .

it's not.

i actually like it better in this because any kills you get from the kill streak bonuses do not count into your actual kill streak.

in COD4 you could get an airstrike, kill 2 people, and get a chopper from those 2 kills.

can't do that in this game. you will need 2 more kills from your gun for them to count for the kill streak.

Wooooooooooah what? Why are they doing that? I almost never play without party chat anymore. I want to be able to talk to the people I'm playing with without hearing the other annoying people on my team, and without them hearing me (because that would just be annoying to them).

Is there a perk that allows you to hear nearby opponents? I guess party chat would interfere with that.

I don't think any/many of my friends will be buying MW2 anyway... meh.

Oh that's good to know. You could string together kill streaks pretty easily in CoD4 by holding onto your chopper until you died.

Yuck. I always use Party Chat on Xbox Live because the majority of people online are dipshits who sing into the mic or constantly trash talk or spout racism. Now I'll have to mute everyone at the beginning of every game in order to get the same effect.

That is, assuming some of my friends pick up MW2. Not sure if they will. Maybe one or two will, but I have a couple other friends who are totally obsessed with Halo 3 and never play anything else.

That's not true. You can absolutely string together streaks. I've gotten 5 kills, dropped a predator on 3 people, and unlocked a harrier with it.

I think it only works for explosives like missles or airstrike though...I don't think I got any streaks from chopper kills.

party chat is probably disabled because it would allow dead players to communicate with alive players which would be quite unfair.

Gotcha, thanks. I'm fine with it being attached to online multi, as long as I can have some actual customization.

I remember in CoD 4, helicopter and airstrike kills only contributed to your streak bonuses for as long as you stayed alive after activating them. So if you call in the chopper and then immediately die and respawn, you don't get free kill streaks after you respawn.

I know one tactic was to use the airstrike to get kills to push you up to 7 for the chopper, and then to wait until you died to call in the chopper, allowing you to build up your streak again more easily. I mean, continuing to increase your streak past 7 was nice for your team's score, but it didn't really help you. Theoretically you'd want every kill you get to contribute towards getting another chopper.

I don't remember for sure, but I think World At War prevented that. If you earned the dogs, then died, and then called in the dogs after respawning, you got no kill streak credit for those kills. I mean, you still get the kills, but they don't contribute to your streak.

Perhaps they do it that way in MW2 as well. Airstrikes, helicopters, AC-130s, etc. can help you further increase your kill streak and get later bonuses, but only if you earn them and then activate them in the same life. No streaks for respawning and then activating.

That might be it then...it's not entirely
obvious how it works, but they defintely do stack.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think the guy who nuked us had an ac-130 right before that, and he racked up a ton of kills.

I'm sure once it's out someone will know the answer for sure. But there is definitely some stackability.

I think the overall idea is exactly the same as it was in MW1 (with the exception of dying perhaps)? Any killstreak bonus you gets will add you your streak.

To stop people from giving away enemy positions. They allow party chat in 3 or 4 game modes. I would rather get killed by some guy's friend every once and awhile than not have party chat though.

Would like to note that there is the potential
for the killstreaks to get pretty crazy...there can be two or possibly three up at a time...not sure. There have been times when I've been getting nailed by both an enemy chopper an harrier or ac-130. So carrying a launcher as a secondary is very helpful.

Also of note is that the killstreaks can fight each other. I've blown choppers out of the sky with a predator or ac-130. I also know that after I launched a harrier, I got a bonus for killing a chopper, so I think there was even some automatic dogfighting going on.

It's very difficult to shoot down the care package though, that chopper gets in and out very quick.

Theres even an emergency airdrop that is 9 kills I think, that will drop 4 care packages at once. That tends to precede a bit of madness, but what's even better is stealing them all.

So yeah, it can get really crazy, but nearly all can be shot down, so teamwork can make a huge difference. I alone was able to
pretty much deny UAVs to the other team.

oh maybe that is the case.

i know when i had an AC130 and the Pave Low, those kills did not count towards any streak. i figured it was the same for all of the bonuses.
