Also thanks Kabob, I got that privacy setting changed and can now hear everyone talking I think I need to turn the chat volume up tho, I can barely hear anything if I don't have a headset plugged in.

is there something new in the new dashboard?

What do you mean? There's always been a setting so that you could only hear/talk to friends.

what is a modded controller?

Rapid fire controller, they add another button to the back that sends a pulse of inputs for the "fire" button. So you take a powerful semi-auto weapon (FAL, one of the pistols) and it shoots as fast or faster than an assault rifle, typically with no recoil.

Played a few games last night with the AVS crew and the other team camping and talking lots of smack (and one of 'em using a modded controller). After that first game we didn't let them win again (despite the fact that they switched to noob tubes).

Overall it was a pretty rough night for me, didn't have many great games. Finished off several challenges, still trying to get my 40 penetration kills with FMJ on the M4.
That team we were playing the other day was rough. One of those guys was redikerous with his ACR. And that run & shotgun play got old. I wish I could've heard whatever smack talking I missed

I saw a neat tip on YouTube for getting Extended Mags: play FFA (or any other mode of course, just more opportunities with FFA) on Sub Base and camp in the lower room at the Power Station (see map) with claymores and shoot through the chain fencing stuff when people enter on either side of the room. Scavenger is a must, or I suppose OMA would work. You can see through the chain fencing pretty well, but shooting through it still counts as penetration kills

For whatever reason, I just haven't gotten on Sub Base lately, but I will be using that.

I started playing MW2 this week again and takign a long break from it helped a lot, I love it again and it's made me that much more excited for black ops. Probably going to play a lot more MW2 in the evenings now than reach for the next week.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Finally got my own copy instead of borrowing my neighbor's, now getting into multiplayer. Anyone up for a game night?

This thread died because Black Ops is better and everyone switched. You are way late to the game

If you're just starting off, you're in for a bit of hurt. Get ready for oma+dc noob tubers, reigning AC130 and Harrier aircrafts, quick scopers, runners, etc...

Good luck.

Yeah, I've been playing a bit on PS3 to get used to the controller and there are a good number of all of those. Not as much air support, but the noob tubers and quickscopers are everywhere. Black Ops is definitely better about that.

Fixed it for ya. No offense, but Black Ops isn't nearly as good as CoD 4 nor MW2. It's new, sure, but the gameplay isn't quite up to snuff.

I'll keep playing it as most of my friends play it, but that's life.

Black Ops is far beyond MW2. There is nothing MW2 does better, not one thing.

Umm...

Oh, did I mention Hit Detection?

And on a personal level...
Fun factor

Don't get me wrong, Black Ops is fun, but it's not as good as the Infinity Ward games.

There are a ton of people still playing MW2 online, no shortage of targets. I'm just seeing if anyone from here wants to setup a game night to wail on each other is all.

Hit detection is identical, maps are better, weapon sounds are normal, and how is numerous noob toobs and constant air traffic more fun?

Hit detection is definitely not identical. I'll admit, it wasn't perfect in MW2, but I can empty an entire magazine at an enemy in Black Ops from 20 feet away and get zero hits, then he can whirl on me and shoot 5 times and I'm dead. It's not a "well weapons actually have recoil" arguement because at that range I should be able to hip shoot at the guy and score all hits, it's just wonky.

The weapons sound like pop guns. I mean, have you heard the FAMAS? It sounds like a blender from hell. MP5 sounds like a kid knocking two plastic blocks together...bleh.

As for maps...I can think of 3 or 4 really good Black Ops maps: Nuketown, Summit, umm...maybe Jungle (although it's not particularly well laid out), and Grid off the top of my head. The list of those I dislike is pretty long though: Cracked, Hanoi, Launch, Firing Range (not sure why that map is so popular), Radiation, Villa...and the rest are so-so.

I'll agree with you, I'm glad to see Danger Close gone, but I can't say I'm much happier with RC-XD's.

It's not that I haven't adapted to playing Black Ops, my win/kill ratios are even better than they were in MW2, I just don't think it's as polished of a game.

I hate nuketown. its sucha predictable and stupid map IMO. on the other hand i nejoy Firing Range, at least you have multiple routes to go in that map. nuketown you are just so limited IMO. Hanoi is the other map i dont like and thats just it seems to big and spread out in my experience.

No more noob tubes is great but i agree the rc-xd's need to bump up to a 4 killstreak level. Theres just to many of the damn things for a pretty much guaranteed 1 or 2 kills.

I really don't notice any difference at all in terms of hit detection. Its probably the exact same code.

Mw2 maps are head and shoulders above black ops. No argument there.

But I disagree on weapon sounds. Famas and the m60 are really weak, but the rest are so much more realistic and satisfying in BO. You just really need to turn it up loud on a decent system to appreciate it. Mw2 guns barely even sound like guns.

It's weird though...I definitely romanticized MW2 a bit, the last time I put it on it wasn't as exciting as I remember, but that just might be the few hundred hours I've already played it.

BO is improved in many ways, but it's worse in so many others. The weapons are boring, the maps are unlikeable, and those things are so core to the experience that the rest is kind of unimportant. It's like a racer where all the cars are the same, and all the tracks aren't fun to drive on. It doesn't matter what else they do right when the most basic things are lacking.

Don't get me wrong, but are still heads and shoulders above the competition, but they're basically competing with previous games in their own series at this point. Mw2, despite it's flaws, is still the best multiplayer in the series.

I agree as well... It's like getting a predator missle with every two kills with hl on.

IMO, the hit detection feels exactly the same. I had the same complaints in MW as I did in BO. Overall, I'm happy with it but occasionally the same type of BS deaths happen.

I'm actually happier with the gameplay.....its a lot more balanced. There aren't things flying in the air nonstop with killstreaks stacking and people aren't toobing it up or sniping with shotguns like they did in MW2.

MW2 was 10x more glitch-y than BO and I don't find myself getting as pissed off at the game.

I'd have to agree that the maps were better in MW2 but that can be fixed with map packs.

My opinions are from when I played the game which was before all of the fixes which happened after I had moved to other games. I did spend countless hours on it prior.....enough for a few prestiges. I also played the hell out of Spec Ops which was great.

All said, I had fun with both games.....just less frustrated with BO.

I would like to commend you bastards who can play this with a controller. Picked up a second hand copy to play with some friends on the 360 and it is ridiculously frustrating coming from a keyboard/mouse to this. I feel like when I'm trying to be precise the crosshairs move too fast, and when I'm trying to turn it moves too slow D:

Also the click left joystick to sprint is really not working out well for me lol. I've only played for an hour or two to get a feel for it, but it didn't look like you could customize the controls beyond the [two?] predefined configurations, is that right?

How do you normally aim in this game also? I'm pretty accustomed to CSS/BFBC2 where firing 'from the hip' is pretty normal and productive but it seems extremely counter productive in this game as any movement seems to have a huge negative impact on your aim. It also seems like the killcams I'm watching are mostly done through ironsights, I suppose I should work on that.

Are melee attacks all auto-kill? And I guess it's just a matter of adjusting to the game's perspective, but it feels like the strike range on the knives is absolutely massive.

Also, I have discovered that everything I have ever heard about xbox live is true. First game ever, I had two 15 year olds cursing each other out. Then there was the know-it-all, the 'pro', and mr "ill fight you IRL". Oh man

Trust me, it gets easier with practice. I moved from PC exclusive to Console exclusive gaming back in late 2006.

Firing from the hip is pretty inaccurate but if you use the "Steady Aim" perk it works a little better. You need to get used to bringing up your sights though.

Yes, a melee attack is a one hit kill. The knife range is pretty long but there's a perk called Commando that makes you lunge...it's absolutely broken/overpowered.

It just takes practice, practice, practice.

You will want to up the default sensitivity some - don't get used to playing on 3 or whatever the default setting is. Move it up to the 5-7 range or higher and get used to that. You do need to be able to change viewing direction quickly.

One of the stranger things about console aiming is auto-aim. There's lots of discussion on this, but the takeaway is that if a target is near your crosshairs, the game will help you follow the target a bit.

My strategy is to get my crosshairs near the target, let the autoaim grab on a bit, and then Aim Down Sights (ADS). You can generally start firing as soon as your crosshairs are on target and continue firing as you ADS. Then, with your weapon ADS, the movement sensitivity is reduced and autoaim is helping and you'll find that it's much easier to take them out.

But in the end, you really just need to practice on the sticks. Also, don't run around looking for enemies. Control the engagement and only fight under your terms. Stay along cover everywhere. Consider that most higher level players are going to run perks that help give you away, like SitRep or Ninja; or perks that hide themselves from you, like Ghost or Ninja.

Honestly, you may want to look at Black Ops or MW1. MW2 can be a huge PITA for new players, especially at a lower level. The ridiculous perks and killstreaks, along with the fact that most players still there are experts, can make it frustrating and annoying.
