WTF, I just threw down a care package and as soon as it dropped one of my teammates stole it. Not cool. It'd be nice if it at least gave you a few seconds before your teammates could steal it.

I didn't have my headset on, so I didn't have a chance to tell him to stop. Oh well.

As mentioned you secure your own care packages MUCH faster than either your teammates or the enemy does. It takes 1-3 seconds maybe depending on what's in it for you, they're maybe 5-8 seconds.

So they're boosting so they can get a "cool" icon faster?

They're basically doing work so that they can have a different arbitrary icon. God people are stupid.

This is why I don't worry so much when I enter a game and see 1st and 2nd prestige guys. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're good at the game, it means that they play alot or boost alot, and what the heck is the point of that? I've met more crappy 1st prestige players than I've met good prestige players (granted, I've played a few who whalloped me).

*edit* woot, 1000th thread post!

You can grab your own care packages like 4-5x faster than a teammate can grab it. So unless you died, or threw your smoke flare far away from you, you shouldn't have problems with anyone taking your crate.

And if you did die, then good for the teammates for taking the crate and not letting the enemy take it.

I don't just stand around next to the flare after I throw it, I watch for enemies and pick up the package when I think it's safe. In this case I was in a second story window and threw it on the ground right in front of the window. One of my teammates spawned right in front of the flare about two seconds before the package landed, and as soon as it landed he took it. I didn't have time to react. I've died while retrieving care packages before, and I've thrown care packages too close to cover and had them land in inaccessible spots before, so I try to be careful in both regards.

Another guy spawned there shortly before he did, so he knew he wasn't alone and he obviously knew he didn't throw the flare. It'd just be nice if people gave you enough time to grab your own box before they took it. When I see a box sitting by itself I check my radar and if there is a teammate nearby I wait to see if he's going to get it.

On wasteland one of my teammates and I both threw care packages in front of the church. His was a UAV and mine was a Harrier strike, and he tried to take mine. That time I was able to get it before him.

That's why I move to cover and then throw it nearby, I don't just chuck the marker and hope I can make it there unscathed.

As of last night though I removed care package and added chopper gunner. Seems like 75% of the care packages are UAV/Counter UAV and I hit 11 kills in a row pretty regularly.

I essentially did that. I threw it about 10 feet in front of me, and it landed between a fence and a shack where I would be hidden when I retrieved it, and I was able to watch for enemies from the window above for the few seconds I was waiting for it to drop. I really don't think I did anything unreasonable here. If you saw a care package drop in front of you that you knew wasn't yours, and you saw two teammates nearby on your radar, would you take it?

Edit:
So you know what I'm talking about, this is where I was standing:

I threw the flare next to this shack:

I was by myself when I threw it, then two of my teammates spawned. When I threw it, that was the best place to throw it. I didn't have to leave my spot until the package dropped, I could continue to defend that side of the building, and if the package was something I didn't like I could leave it there as bait. That was the plan until my teammates spawned there.

Can't see the pics (work filter, it's pretty much gotta be Photobucket for me to see it). Yeah, I agree, people typically sprint for any care package they see drop even if you're standing right there. It gets frusterating.

yea care package thieves are annoying. If I see a care package and nobody around I will try to get it but I wont go out of my way to steal it from a teammate. Considering 80% of them are UAV's

got the fun Challenge of sticking an enemy and having it kill him and his friend done last night, that was amusing.

Have some questions for you guys.

1. What is spawn trapping?

2. I am watching a video by Hutch (Machinima) on YouTube and when he talks about his load out, he says "my blue perk is this, my red perk is that." Aren't they just called Perk 1, 2, 3? What is blue? red?

As I think someone else said in this thread, if you're alive you have the possibility to be a spawn point for team members.

Yeah I realize that. I still think it's reasonable to expect teammates to make sure the crate is already abandoned before they take it, but c'est la vie.

Having teammates spawn near me has become more annoying now that I've switched to a more stealthy class (silencer, marathon, cold blooded, ninja).

In another game last night I got an AC-130 from a care package but got killed before I could get it. I had my headset on, and I was yelling "that's mine! that's mine! don't take it!" as I sprinted back to where I was killed. Fortunately my teammates were nice enough to leave it for me (or maybe they didn't notice it). I wouldn't have faulted them for taking it, because it's better for one of them to take it than for the other team to get it, but I spawned pretty close so I was able to get there quickly.

If I die while waiting for a care package, I YELL at my team to go get it before the enemy does. I'd rather my team get it than them.

We were playing Demolition last night and one of my teammates thought it'd be a good idea to throw a care package and hopefully let it fall and hit a guy guarding said demolition point on the head. Unfortunately it missed and more unfortunately it was an AC-130. MAN that sucked...

Oh jeez... not smart. I think there is actually a challenge for killing an opponent with care package, maybe he was hoping for that? I think you'd have to get pretty lucky to ever complete that challenge in a real game.

I don't think anyone I play with, unless they are fresh prestige, uses care packages. And even then, I paly 3rd person with 4 people, so we all talk and ask before care packages are picked up.

Is it just me or is the game have a good amount of bullet lag? Many times I'll be around a corner and die. I'll see a guy, side step, then fall over dead. I should probably watch the kill cams more to verify. I do know, however, that I'll shoot someone a couple bursts with my m16, reload, then they'll die while I'm reloading.

You shouldn't trust you own camera or the kill cam or observing cam. Basically all the cams suck with either real lag or introduced lag. Sorry, I am not being clear. What I am saying is that I don't think you can trust the cams. You might think you shot a guy first but for whatever reason, he may have really shot you first. Maybe he has less lag or something and his shot registered first.

One thing I noticed when observing a teammate in HQ (while I am dead), is I'll see them run right past an enemy and I yell (at the screen), he's right there, right there. And then my teammate dies. At first I thought that these are terrible players then I realized maybe you're not seeing it the way they are.

I finally axed care package yesterday in favor of chopper gunner. And yeah, I've mentioned bullet lag quite a few times. It sux.

Dude mugs there must be something wrong with your care package strategy. You need to find a place hidden and *away* from the battle. I have only had a care package stolen twice in the about 1d18h played, and they were both in the same game.

depending on the connection there will be some lag, but I've never seen lag so bad that I've shot someone and reloaded and then they died.

The one where I died was on Scrapyard, there aren't many places that are well-protected and don't have a roof. I got my 3rd and 4th kills consecutively, so I wasn't able to call in my UAV before the care package. I had a couple of guys around me and thought I was safe, but apparently not. I was in the corner by the forklift. The places on Scrapyard that have good cover also get a ton of traffic.

It would be much easier with an emergency airdrop, since there are four (although getting 8 kills in a row is a lot harder than getting 4). I did see a guy get squished by an emergency airdrop once, and it may have actually been a member of the enemy team although I don't remember.

Care package was the first killstreak I replaced, but I've since gone back to it. Predator missile wasn't getting me many kills, so I switched to sentry gun. That wasn't working much better, so I went to care package and I've been getting some great drops. I'm good enough to consistently get more kills than deaths, but I'm just not good enough to consistently get long streaks. I probably average somewhere between 1 and 2 care packages a game; even if I was able to average one chopper gunner or AC-130 or whatever every 5 games, 5-10 care packages I got in that time probably would have gotten me more kills. The reality is I wouldn't average an 11 kill streak every 5 games or anything close to that, so so the care package is waaaaay better for me than the higher rewards. The downside of course is that it doesn't contribute to my next killstreak, but my next killstreak is Harriers (7 kills), so that's not so bad.

Aside from the practical advantage of netting me more kills, it also lets me have fun with the AC-130 and chopper gunner, which I'd rarely get to do otherwise.

There are times when it seems like I got far enough around a corner before I died, but I just chalk it up to the latency that is inherent in online games. I'm sure it benefits me as often as it hurts me. I haven't noticed it to be a significant problem.
