Where do you guys live that gamestop gives you such a hassle? I'm in Seattle and they don't badger me at all. They may ask if I want to pre-order one game, but I just say no and the transaction continues trouble-free.

Alabama. I think it's more about who's behind the counter. I cancelled a pre-order before and didn't have any issues at all, this guy was someone I'd not seen before (not that I stop by very often).

Don't forget, the reason there are said boycotting gamers is because the PC version now lacks dedicated servers and punkbuster. I'd put that as a minus.

I'm pretty sure theyre replacing punkbuster with valve anti-cheat. With their much tighter control over the online portion of the product, Id expect cheating to be a non-issue on the PC version, whereas in the past, it's been a huge issue. I'd put it as a positive.

There's a very vocal group whining about dedicated servers, but I've always far preferred the console matchmaking. I've encountered far too many servers with either insane mods that detract from play, or far too many players for the maps.

But even if 90% of people that were going to buy the game on PC arent anymore, there will still be tens of thousands of people playing for sure. I just cant see how finding enough players could possibly be an issue, even at launch, especially with matchmaking.

The whole IWNET thing almost has me considering buying the PC version, as theyve now moved into the 21st century, but everyone else I know is on 360, so it's hardly a choice.

On another note, I just had a mod change my name and I can't edit my OP so we'll have to figure out another way to add to the players list.

Both the PS3 and PC will use matchmaking and P2P servers, so I couldn't really detract from the PC for that. The PC uses VAC and a proprietary IW.net so I think cheating will be very well controlled.

New rumor circulating that Infinity Ward's "Big Secret" is that MW2 will include some 3rd person multiplayer types. Haven't heard anything about the single player.

I hope it's not true, apparently there's a video or two showing it which I've not yet seen.

Why not? What's wrong with more options? Presumably there are a few multiplayer types that are third-person only, so the first-person types will not be tarnished.

Yeah I guess so. I just don't like suddenly 10 games into a franchise saying "oh, why not make it 3rd person!"

Hard to tell exactly whats going on with that video, but from the looks of it, 3rd person view is going to suck. I really hope this isn't it. Or if it is, hope its just a very small portion of the game.

3rd Person Confirmed

'You never want to bring a third person along on a date -- not unless that date happens to be November 10th. Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling (A.K.A. fourzerotwo) has taken control and confirmed that a third-person camera viewpoint will be available in this holiday's monolithic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but only in specifically marked online playlists.

"It's not something you can toggle on and off in ANY game," said Bowling. The special mode can only be played in private matches -- toggled on or off just like "Hardcore" settings -- or in playlists that are designated for third-person play. According to Bowling, everyone playing in a third-person playlist will be restricted to the viewpoint. "This is just another cool way to play the game," he said, "you obviously will still have the option to play gametypes normal as well."

Our friend, the internet, has an inscrutable video of some person running around in third person, but you're probably better off waiting for the "awesome trailer" the folks at Infinity Ward have planned.

And I've always wanted the option to play 3rd person, mostly because it makes me feel more comfortable on a console - just a preference though.

I hope but I doubt it that this game will break away from the typical COD gameplay. Allthough the original COD was fun, after 2 it started getting a bit old. I tried the demo of World at War and it felt no different then then the original COD on PC that came out over 6 years ago.

Where's the demo?

Definitely my MP shooter choice by far. The only thing that needs to be included is split screen online multiplayer, but I don't think that's part of the changes. I won't be getting it on release day, but it'll be #1 on my x-mas list

More controversy ensues over MW2, this one's actually pretty big.

Someone released a video on YouTube of a supposed level from MW2. Someone found it again on this other website. Spoilers included in the vid and in the text below.





































The video claims to be a level from MW2. The idea is that you are a terrorist running through an airport killing as many innocent civilians as possible. People flee, husbands try to help injured wives, etc, and you shoot them.

That leaves a really bad taste in my mouth if it is legit. I understand IW wanting it to be raw and realistic but I think that might be pushing things a little too far. It's not been confirmed official but I'm pretty sure it is, I remember seeing in one of the early trailers a group of bad guys moving through said environment.

Oh shit, if that is true I don't know what is going to happen... fuck.

Perhaps the person recording that video is going against the mission objectives on purpose. I really fucking hope so because I wouldn't be able to play that mission otherwise.

I hope IW comments on this before the game is released so I can cancel my preorder if it is true.
