The problem I have with the Modern Warfare series is their laziness and how they basically gave us PC gamers the finger.

I enjoy playing my Xbox 360 but FPS games are one genre that I just can never enjoy on a console. I'm sure a lot of the gamers out there that are big Modern Warfare fans have probably never played FPS games on a PC and only really "know" the controller, but I could be wrong.

It probably depends on age. There's a legion of people who played PC FPS's when they were at their glory from say 1998-2005, and most everyone I know has abandoned the PC for consoles for a whole host of reasons. The PC still has its advantages but its no longer the only choice for legit online gaming. The 360 kind of changed everything. Someone who wasn't of age back in the quake/CS glory days might not have the same frame of reference, but there was an undeniable paradigm shift of western developers from PC to console in the mid 2000s. And a lot of gamers went with them. PC-only gamers are basically holdouts. Even those leading the charge on PC (dice, valve) take consoles very seriously - but you can still tell that their console products suffer for essentially being PC ports.

I was on the same "how the hell do you play FPS with a console controller" boat till MW2 tbh. Gears was my game when I first played on Xbox, and I remember jumping into MW1 games back then and just getting murdered left and right. I then started playing MW2 when it came out for about a month straight, and things started to click. Now I'm at the point where I'd have to re-learn how to use a mouse and kb for pc fps games.

Yep. It's just a hump you eventually get over, and then once you're comfortable, you realize the games are just as fun with the sticks. Even though I recognize the mouse/kb is technically a superior control method, I don't miss it even a tiny bit.

I was never around for the PC days of FPS but I dont see how it mouse/kb could be better. Again, Ive only played with a controller but it just feels right to me.

I agree 100%. It's definitely nice being able to sit on the couch with other people and take part in console gaming. There is no doubt that it's more convenient and I think that's why it's blown up so fast but I'll always enjoy playing on PC more than a console. When companies that relied on PC gamers decide to cut out a lot of key features PC gamers grew accustomed to, that just pisses me off.

This is exactly what my wife told me when I tried to get her to play MW2 on my computer. She eventually got the hang of it and now she hates playing on a console.

A large part of the reason CoD is so successful IMO is that they nailed two stick control, and made the aim assist so subtle that it makes the game playable without being an easy button. It never aims for you, but it makes aiming quickly and accurately actually possible with a stick, even at high sensitivities.

A mouse doesn't need that crutch. You have such fine and precise control over your aim that any squad of decent m/kb players will beat stick players. Take that aim assist away and it'd be a bloodbath.

This is so true.

Given that the console players are all on an even playing field with each other though, it's not too much of an issue, unless you're trying to get used to a controller after a lot of kb/mouse FPSing.

I kinda burned out on twitch FPS shooters on PC a million years ago, first we had Wolf and Doom I and II, then Quake 1, 2, 3, the Unreal and UT series, CS, etc. If I never play a super spazfest FPS again, I won't really mind.

Shouldn't putting videos in my vault from my PS3 make it available to view on the elite.callofduty.com website? Uploaded a video there last night, said it uploaded it, showed it in the slot but I do not see it in my elite page on the website.

Is this just a broken feature? Anyone else get it to work?

How long is the video? If you didn't render it, then it's only available in game and to your friends.

Still can't get Elite to DL (it comes up as an 100MB unknown program) on XBL, but really enjoying MW3. It's odd too because I was so ready to thrash and hate this game, being a big fan of the original Infinity Ward team, but what's left of IW and Sledgehammer really did a great job of balancing out the MW2 issues and putting out a polished product. I miss a lot of the MW2 maps, but the new ones aren't bad, a lot of them remind me of old Counter-Strike maps (I swear Seatown gives me de_dust flashbacks).

omg, that's what it is. thank you. I kept feeling like I've played seatown before and that it felt so familiar. And now I know why. It does remind me a lot of de_dust and de_dust2

Yeah, it's got the same aesthetic as dust. Which is still arguably the greatest map ever made. It had just the right amount of routes and openings. You could manage the possibilities without knowing exactly where theyre coming from, but there was no dominant position.

That's the problem with most MW3 maps (and blops maps) - theyre so labyrinthine and dense that you can be attacked from several different angles at any time. It's too chaotic. That's why everyone loved nuketown and terminal - they were simple.

What is the best way to level? Mostly what game mode? I am always watching daily/weekly challanges and all the other ones. Right now I play a lot of dom or KC.

Polished? I'm pretty sure they are on their 6th or 7th patch and it still isn't right.

Dom and KC are pretty good modes to level up. HQ can get you more points than a good dom match if you are simply on the winning team. If you toss in a bunch of kills, you can get 5K+ points in a single HQ match. But, if you are on the losing team you'll struggle to break 2K and will get raped in the process.

I wonder about the new Drop Zone mode. I'd expect it to be similar to HQ for points: lots of easy points if you are on the winning team, but you get shit on otherwise!

HQ does not net as many points as it did in BO. In BO, you got 2500 points just for being on the winning team. (10 xp points per HQ capture point)

In MW3, you only get 1 xp point for each HQ capture point for a max of 400 points from capping the HQ.

I noticed a lot of the points are different. I like that in CTF in blops you would get 100 per kill, 250 for pick up and returns, and also points for kills if you had the flag. I could average around 9k in a good match.

I'm pretty sure you only got 100 points for picking up/returning flags. No way would you get 250 points for doing something so easy.

Capping a flag did get you 250 points though.
