Come on. These guys need to MOVE the fuck on. They did a game called Psi-Ops a few years ago that was pretty damn good. Have any of you gone back and played MK1, 2 or 3? They are utter trash. They were great when you were 10 and could actually rip someone head's off and see some blood, *gasp*, but there is a reason SF2 has stood the test of time.

The MK series is BASED on a gimmick FFS!

mk3, while i wasn't the best or anything at it, is an extremely competitive game at high level play.

games not aging well have nothing to do with games of the current time. that is a pretty stupid thing to base a new game off of.

and if you had paid attention to the development efforts of this new MK game, you would know that they have talked to top level fighting game players of all the major games, and are really trying to make this game competitive. they have done their research and are really striving for a new direction.

since it isn't out yet obviously we can't comment on it. the demo was mediocore to me but it was hard to really base it while playing AI.

and comparing ANY fighting game from the SF2 era is just stupid ... none of those games are around anymore except SF2. Virtua Fighter, Killer Instinct, Time Killers, Primal Rage, Samurai Showdown, World Heroes ... none of those series are relevant now except for SF series.

I can agree about the thread crapping. That can be annoying and I know that's what it was. I actually felt like putting in a "/rant" or whatever in there, but honestly, the MK series is shit in every way.

I even played the hell out of it for years, with many friends and have many good memories of it.

You bringing up the fact that a few people have decided to make it competitive does not equate to it being of a decent quality. I'm sure there are some people alive today that are obsessed with ET for the NES. I'm also commenting on the series, which in history, or more importantly, in reality is obviously based on a gimmick. Can you actually debate that?

The games not out, I'm talking shit about the series. Most notably the early part of the series.

Comparing a game from the same era is stupid? Hmmmmm. No. Virtua Fighter & Samurai Showdown are quite good, especially for their time.

It's all opinion, but these developers have shown talent in other areas and I think they should push their boundaries, not spend time on this retarded shit. IMO, that's right it's an opinion, should spend their time on something other than a shit 2D fighter, based on an overused gimmick, with cyborg ninjas as their main characters.

im not saying those games (SS and VF) weren't good for their time, i'm saying that they did not age well like MK1 and MK2 didn't. MK1 and MK2 were amazing at their time and an extremely solid fighter ... for it's time. the main issue was depth, and advanced mind games, which didn't really exist in a lot of those games like they did in SF. that is what made SF2 such a great, long lasting game.

the last paragraph i don't disagree with really, other than the "cyborg ninjas" as their main characters. same thing can be said about shoto's in the SF series, although they aren't just palette swaps heh.

but i too am weary about MK9 and not sold on it by any means. i actually feel pretty "meh" about it in general at this point. i still feel the mocap makes the animations so not-fluid, and the collission detection is just funky and makes everything look unnatural.

but that said, i'm going to at least give it a try since i enjoy the fighting genre.

i will say though, mk9 is by far gonna hvae the most single player content out of any fighter in recent time heh (although that doesn't mean much to me cause I play fighters for the real-person comp)

Mortal Kombat was terrible compared to Street Fighter. However that doesn't mean they shouldn't keep making attempts, one of these MK games may end up really great.

I grew up on Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 & 2. Even to this day, I still play SF2 and earlier MK games and thoroughly enjoy it. It's not just for the nostalgia, either. They were great games when I was a kid, and they still satisfy me today. Especially with a couple buddies and some beers. The nights we break out the Sega are always a blast.

Every Mortal Kombat after the 2nd one seemed to really miss the mark, and as a result, I didn't play them much at all. However, I've been wanting to buy a PS3 for a long time, and although there's a bunch of games I'd love to have, MK9 is what finally sold me. When I was in 4th grade, I remember boldly saying that there's no possible way they could make a Mortal Kombat better than MK2. MK9 is going back to basics, adding some cool features, cranking up the gore, and looks like it's going to rule. Can't wait to get it. I'm not picking up a PS3 until MK9's launch, but I've thought about just getting a PS3 now and playing with the demo to hold me over.

surprised that you liked sf2 and mk1/2 and that sf4 isn't what made you want one.

i don't see mk9 holding me over nearly as long as sf4/ssf4 has, although i won't be sad if it does. hope it is better than i expect it to be.

well there is a video of someone unboxing it on ps3 which is supposedly in brazil. so there are legit copies floating around.

me personally, i wouldn't leak it. it gives me absolutely no benefit to do so and could potentially screw me over. i had a legit halo 3 like 5 days early and had so many people bugging me to leak it.

i've gotten over the whole "its cool to have e-cred" thing heh.

yea i was playing with raiden last night for about 30 mins in training mode ... man this game i think will be a lot of fun. it really is hard to judge it though w/out playing a human opponent, but just from messing around with the mechanics of this game, i was definitely liking it.

one thing i quickly noticed is that corner combos are going to be key in this game. the corner is NOT where you want to be. i was landing some damaging combos on the training dummy in the corner. highest i got w/out the xray move was 33%, most i got with the xray move was 45%.

i really like the damage output in this game as well. graphics are pretty amazing too, and you should see how bloody pulped kano was as the training dummy lol. there was like no skin to be seen on his face after training mode.

one thing i like about the "pay to play online" thing they are doing with MK is now at least pirates who go online can't just get on and get a headstart. i'm pretty excited about next tuesday when my copy comes from amazon i will quickly be online learning stuff.
