Only got a little time to play this last night after picking it up yesterday on the 360 (and playing it at a friend's house on his PS3 for an hour over the weekend) and I'm loving it. It just feels right and plays very, very well. I started on the story mode and while the story/dialogue is cheesy, I think it suits the game well. It doesn't take itself seriously, which I like. I only made it past Cage and Sonya's chapters, but I think the voice acting is pretty decent so far as well. Not the best I've ever heard, but passable.

I really like the story mode also since it actually gives you a full-fledged story and not just a story for whichever character you decided to select. There's no "this guy's story is the correct one" while everyone else's story is just there for something to strive for. Plus, the story mode here is helping me see and do everyone's moves, which is fun. I would normally just pick a couple of characters and never touch anyone else, but this is forcing me to use them in a fun way.

I did encounter a couple of issues. When I first loaded up the game, I tried going into the Krypt without doing anything else, just to look around. It completely locked up my 360, had to power it off and back on. Couldn't get the dashboard or anything. The second time I tried to access it, after I had earned some coins, it worked fine. I also ran into one part in the story mode where I thought it locked up after a fight, as it sat there for probably 10-15 seconds. Right when I was getting ready to try to bring up the in-game dashboard, it suddenly kicked back in gear and continued on its way. This was all with the game installed.

I'm not having any issues with the 360 d-pad either, I think it works very well. The game is very forgiving in its movements. Granted, this is a 6-month old controller that has seen little to no use on the d-pad, so maybe it's still "fresh" enough to be useful. We'll see how it goes as I wear it in a little more.

Overall, really glad I picked this up for $40.

Anybody mastered any of the 12-16 hit combos yet? I went into practice mode last night with Stryker and began working on some. Best I can pull off right now is about 9-10 hits of a 16 hit chain. Helps a ton to have the strategy guide, so you don't have to keep going back into the moves list.

my best combo that i can do pretty consistently is like a 11-12 hit scorpion combo that does 34% damage and requires no meter and can be done midscreen. i really have not played this game much at all to be honest though, going to get more into it pretty soon hopefully. need to go to some local gatherings because online is just ridiculous.

I feel like I was whoopin ass with Nightwolf when he popped up in the story. His combos just seem to fit well with my button mashing :awe:

Now I'm at the final Shao Kahn battle, and it's a bitch. The way I beat him earlier with somebody else can't be done with the current character.

Playing with Raiden then huh? Keep your distance (full screen away). Duck the spears, and jump/leg sweep under the hammers that he throws (the ones that daze you). Once he taunts, either teleport and then uppercut, or throw any other move you've got at him.

Huge pain in the ass. Took me over 2 hours to find a good way to beat him.

yea the story in this game is pretty cool, i'm only on like chapter 5 or something but it reminds me of the original movie which was awesome. i love the cliche'd dialog as well.

dunno if i will go back to story mode though, and i'm definitely not going back to the challenge tower heh and i'm only on 25. thing is so boring and monotonous. and gimmicky.

The only benefit to doing story mode is seeing Mileena's "costume" where she's just about nude. And the only benefit to finishing the challenge tower is unlocking that costume as a playable costume.

I wasn't a fan of the challenge tower from the start, but I'm about 152 challenges in so far. I get 3 or 4 buddies over once or twice a week, and after we're all 4-playered out, I put it on the challenge tower and we all chip away a bit at a time in between beers.

Well technically you do get a good amount of "koins" from doing the whole storyline. I think I ended up with something like 120,000 by the time I finished, which was enough to buy up half of the krypt (lets you unlock costums, artwork etc..) Also doing the 100% story mode unlocks Quan Chi.

I mostly did it to see the storyline though.

Oh I know. I was just having a laugh. The story mode was great, and gives you koins-a-plenty for krypt items. I've got almost the entire krypt bought up at this point.

I'm having the hardest time moving from Street Fighter blocking to MK blocking. Lost my first match in story mode as Liu Kang against the Scropion/white dude team because I kept forgetting. By the time I realize I'm not blocking, it's too late. That was the first match that really punished me for my idiocy.

Finally beat the story mode. At least twice I had Kahn beat where we both had a sliver of health, then he threw his hammer. I immediately warped behind him and did Raiden's charge move thinking YES FINALLY! However during the charge I caught up with his thrown hammer and died first. The controller almost went through the wall.

Is this on ladder? I believe the only trophy/acheivement associated with beating that is you have to beat the whole ladder on the hardest difficulty... without using any continues.

think i'm going to finally start playing it again tonight, been busy the past few nights upading my mvc3 app but now that it is done i'm going to take a break before i update my mk app again. need to get into this game more and start playing locally because i don't wanna get knocked out round 1 at evo haha.

Perhaps I'll do a run on the highest difficulty tonight. Hard was pretty challenging, but I didn't lose a match until Shang Tsung. Goro was still relatively easy, and Shao Kahn was still completely lopsided.

Anybody find the 4 hidden chests in the krypt yet? Keep an eye out for patches of bright green bugs crawling on the ground. Once you find then, stand there for a second and a chest will appear. There's one on along the wall of the Blood marsh, another along the opposite wall, another one off to the right of the Nekropolis, and another near the middle of the krypt.

Oh man. I can feel the competition. I will start to practice this game. I like the bounce effect for combo's I have to get used to them. I can combo much, becuase I come from a street fighter background. I even have hard time blocking, becuase a block button, I havent used for almost a decade. Lol. Last mortal kombat I played was Mortal Kombat Trilogy! Nice to know their is some friendly competition. Hit me up on XBL with the same nick here as my gamertag. thanks!
