In an effort to make finding information about the MSI 865PE Neo2-L/LS/FIS2R (865PE) motherboards easier for all forum members, please post and discuss your issues, problems, experiences, rants, raves and FAQs here.

Received my board on Wednesday. Rock solid and very pleased with it. It does border on the large side in relation to the Lian-Li PC-6x series case I have, but it fit without issue and has been a pleasure to work with so far. MSI even included a rounded IDE and Floppy cable in the package . For $105 from Newegg, it's highly recommended IMHO!

This board has a few bugs and it looks like whoever buys this board is a MSI beta tester.

First the board reads temps way way too high as it actualy is,this in turn renders the Core Center utility useless because thinking the system is hot makes the fans run full speed.

Seconds this board is very picky about ram,my pc2700 ran has to be run at DDR266 to have any stability.

This ram could do 190mhz on my P4B533,now the best I can do with this board is 150mhz,and relaxing the cas settings in bios does absolutely nothing.

If they can get a bios out that fixes those things without killing the board like some msi 875 did,I will be satisfied.

For now as the board is I would not buy an other.

just got one installed without problem here,

NEO2-S
2x corsair CMX256-3500C2 as dual channel
P4 2.8c

Board is quick as lightning (relative to my old p4 1.7).. Memory is running 2x2x2x7 (no option for the 1T in 1.0 bios?)

Like budman said above, it seems that the temperature readouts are not correct.

At times my cpu fan stops all together and the Core Center (from the auto fan speed feature) software starts blaring, cpu has not gone above 60c that I am aware. Set the fans to user instead of auto now.

While using the onboard audio the "software overclock feature" would crash when passing fsb@215. Haven't tried pushing it higher now that have put in pci sound.

No complaints here!

Yes to an insane level of 2.2v :Q

Cpu vcore up to 2.3V.
Ram voltage up to 3.3V.


You can do serious damage with this board if you're not carefull.

Got a 865PE NEO2-FIS2R and a 2.4c coming this week to replace my Asus P4G8X . If I can't get it to 270fsb I'll be looking for another.Will report on it when I get it together.

I also just tried it.......no change what so ever that I can tell.....the temps readings from the CPU are still jacked up....my P4 2.53 is reading 70C idle...........and I know its not that hot.........I think its time to ditch this MB......

I use 2x256mb pc2700 2-5-2-2

And the post reported "Dual channel, liner mode"!!
Is there any other mode for dual/single mode???

I benchmark the memory bandwidth using sisoftsandra03 and only get : ~2500mb/sec
Hmm should be faster than that!! COS it's dual channel isn't it?

If you want 1.21, I can email it to you. Keep in mind: this breaks BIOS overclocking functionality, and it only fixes the probem of running some memory @ 400MHz (specifically Corsair memory).

Temperature readings and overclocking are not fixed in this release...

so, for the those of us interested in a $105 board such as this, would you recommend it? is it stable? it seems like people are running into problems that are overclocking related or DDR 400 related? what if we aren't interested in overclocking?


also, could we get a thread started about the intel 865 PERL ?

The new 1.2 BIOS is great! I'm now able to run my 3.0C @ 3500 and 233 FSB with my Corsair 3500C2... Temps are fixed now as well.

Since I don't have a floppy drive in my computer, I was dreading going thru the process of making a bootable CD, so I tried LiveUpdate, and the 1.2 BIOS was there! Easy flash.

Yes things are stating to look up a bit, the cpu temps are down but still a bit on the high side,the northbrige temps are still the same & a bit high.

I might just be keeping it after all. we will see.
