This feature is only available on the FIS2R versions of the 865 boards.... but yes, there is an option to disable it, or select how much it OCs

What is the difference between the 865PE chipset and the 875P chipset?

My question is actually about the MSI 865G Neo-LS, but since this is closely related to the 865PE boards, I thought I'd ask my question here...

Anyone else have difficulty setting your ram to ddr400 in the 1.2 bios? I can set it to 266, 333, or 500 (I know its set to that because it wont post ) but 400 just sets it to 333 apparently. This is very annoying... might as well have saved the $$$ and bought ddr333 if this was going to happen.

Also... I hate Live Update.. I want to flash back to an earlier bios to see if ddr400 will work, but I dont have a floppy. Why cant there be a simply flash utility, to flash to whatever bios I want?

Politik,

I have to set my CAS delay to 2.5 in order to get 400MHz memory speeds... Try that and see how that works out!

I used LiveUpdate2 (make sure to have CoreCenter off), and before that, I used the Bootable CD method, because I don't have a floppy drive...

I am running the 865 PE neo 2 fisr board with 2* corsair 512 3200.

same problem as Politik: memory running on 333.
suggestion to play with CAS did not work: board did not boot at all.

I upgraded to bios 1.2 (which went fine using live update 2) but that did not help either.

after contacting the MSi support I was given bios version 1.3.1, but I need advice how to install that one: using the preferred method I need a boot floppy that enables access to the harddisk (NOK in XP ntfs) of a windows ME/98 bootable floppy, also not in my possesion.

What to do?

sorry kikker, i did not read your post.....
just go to www. bootdisk.com and download the bootdisk for win98se or millennium.....than boot from the floppy obtained!

I have been having similar problems with my board (MSI 865G, same as politik). Anyways, just made
a bootable cd with ntfs support and figured I ought to post it since lots of people seem to be in need of one.

OK usefull tip bugsrunner, thanks.

So now I am running on 1.3b1

still if I set the bios to ddr frequence 400mhz I get 333, set the cas timings to 2-3-3-6 as adviced, still 333.

Hmmm, maybe corsair put the wrong stickers on

Lets see what MSi support comes up next.

By the way, is there a possibility I can readout the memory frequency in the windows environment? Couls not find it in sisoft sandra. But I wonder if the BIOS readout is correct (long shot).

Darn.
Politik and I thought the bios might be reporting it wrong so we benchmarked it with it set at 333 and 400 and there was no difference.

Let us know if you figure anything out.

It seems like Everybody else had activiated PAT on their MB. Any news from MSI soon? I am not hopeful since MSI would ONLY support the FIS2R with their dynamic overclocking. Othe manufacturer distinguish their product by hardware, but MSI artificially cripple the product by BIOS. Too bad.

Seems like a lot of people are having trouble with this board w/ Corsair memory. I have the Winbond BH-5 chips, is Corsair using those perhaps? I am having the same trouble where setting the bios to DDR400 doesnt do anything (it runs at DDR333)

give me PAT and let this board oc to the level i know my chip can attain. i went from 3.2Ghz(184Mhz FSB) on my 845E board to 2.5Ghz(140Mhz) on my MSI 865PE board.

nothing worse then upgrading you motherboard and losing performance. i guess that loss in performance from losing 700Mhz is made up for in the dual channel memory and new WD 1200JB. that doesn't make it better it makes it worse, making me want that 700Mhz back more then ever.

i'm also getting the feeling that MSI might pull a Gigabyte on me and never add the features the board can have and more importantly should have. i was burned by gigabyte 8IRX, which never had voltage enabled.(only fsb which will let you oc a little, the big oc's need voltage) this was the only board, in a series of 3 that had the feature removed from it bios.(the 8SRX and 8IRXP both had voltage/fsb)

ohh well...... i guess i'll wait a little longer...

one thing i know for sure...... if MSI can't fix my 865 bios... i won't be buying the MSI MEGA sff box, or any other MSI product.

They can if they want to. But I am not hopeful since MSI would not even support the non-FIS2R MB with their dynamic overclocking.
