nothing worse then upgrading you motherboard and losing performance. i guess that loss in performance from losing 700Mhz is made up for in the dual channel memory and new WD 1200JB. that doesn't make it better it makes it worse, making me want that 700Mhz back more then ever.

i'm also getting the feeling that MSI might pull a Gigabyte on me and never add the features the board can have and more importantly should have. i was burned by gigabyte 8IRX, which never had voltage enabled.(only fsb which will let you oc a little, the big oc's need voltage) this was the only board, in a series of 3 that had the feature removed from it bios.(the 8SRX and 8IRXP both had voltage/fsb)

ohh well...... i guess i'll wait a little longer...

one thing i know for sure...... if MSI can't fix my 865 bios... i won't be buying the MSI MEGA sff box, or any other MSI product.

I was having the same problems as you e-phex and I got tired of waiting for msi to fix things with this buggy mobo,at first i was using a 2.26b cpu and couldnt get over 150mhz buty on my Asus P4B533 166mhz was easy.

I figured it just didnt like my 533mhz cpu & bought a 2.4c thinking I could OC better.

I see most people getting 3-3.2ghz easy with these 2.4c but on this msi board 215mhz was tops.

So I got fed up & sold it tonight & will be picking us an Asus P4P800 tomorow ands will never buy msi again, bye bye MSI.

I have a P4 1.6A which runs at 170FSB easily on an Asus P4B266. On the MSI 865 NEO2S, it meared in 112FSB. We have seen so many complaint about MSI not oc well in the forum, yet never see anything about this issue in Anandtech reviews.

Tried to flash my BIOS to 1.2 using LiveUpdate and it killed my mobo. Thing never rebooted. Wonder what I did wrong. Has that happened to anyone else? Guess when I get a new one back from the vendor I'll flash from floppy.

Yes it had happened to a lot of people, mostly msi 875 boards. They are just plain buggy. do yourself a favor & go buy an Asus board & throw that msi board in the trash.

it's trash to begin with....

I picked up the MSI 865PE Neo2 board to replace my MSI 845PE board.
(Only real reason was so that I could put in 4 x 512MB sticks of ram to get it to 2GB)

The cpu temp does appear to be off, but it was the same on the 845PE board.

Using a 2.4b cpu, running fsb of 166 which in turn runs ram at 412mhz (ish) and cpu to 3ghz.

The board seems stable so far, but only at day 2 with it.

I like the layout better then the 845PE board, the ide connections are up further on the board for easier connections in this NEC server case.

My only gripe is that they don't include the digital audio out connection thing (spdif bracket) with the motherboard.
The LED's on the northbridge fan are neat.
The 8 USB connections rock, finally get to ditch the usb hub on the desktop.

Overall, i like it.

I got the board and had nothing but probs

ddr 333 only worked at 266 when it worked.
And my 1.6a which ran at 2.4 fine barely ran fine at 1.6

Havent tried 1.3 but it came with 1.2 that said fixed problems with some system that would not overclock and it still didnt appear to work.

i know what the problem is with bad bios flashes. try taking out the ddr400 and putting in ddr266 just temporarily. it should boot up. go into the bios and setup defaults and shut down and then install the ddr400. you should be ok. hope this helps.

btw this board rox!

This board turned out to be a steaming pile of junk. I had nothing but problems with it. I purchased it last week from newegg, and it was delivered within two days.

I installed kingston hyper x pc3500 and it never registered as 400 ddr only 333.

The bios that it came with was 1.4. And was not stable.

I set up a s-ata raid 0 array, and everytime I made a change in the bios the raid controler registered a failure in the raid array that had to be corrected. And I do mean Every Time.

The ethernet adapter fell on and off of the device manager somewhat randomly.

I tried to update to the 1.7 bios and received some odd "divide by" error and lost the bios totally. blowing out the cmos did no good, the bios never came back. I sent the board rma to newegg today and bought the abit ic7-g

The MSI board was $174 down the drain, with a 15% restocking fee and unneeded shipping for a new board.

It's been a while since I've been to this thread......I thought I sub'd to it but did not. I'm still considering this mobo (FIS2R) if the problems have been fixed by the new 1.4 BIOS. Have any of you tried it? I seem to remember someone here saying that they updated the BIOS (don't recall which version) and they no longer had any control over memory timings. I also remember some problems with the Core Cell or Dynamic O'clocking, and heat issues. Could someone tell me please if the heat issues have been fixed; can you disable "CoreCell" or "Dynamic overclocking" (whatever it's called); and can you set memory timings/options manually?

Are you guys happy with this mobo (except for Dthind ) or should I consider another? What kind of O'clocking results are you getting with a 2.4C w/BIOS 1.4?
Thanks.

You all are worrying me. I just had to RMA my MSI 655 MAX and because they didnt have it, they are sending the 865PE. I sure wish I could have gotten my 655 MAX back. Either that or I should have suggested replacing it with an ABIT or Gigabyte board. Sigh...

I was worried myself, and i'm not totally sure why so many people are complaining about this board. I have the LS model and I think it is excellent in everyway. It hasn't crashed once or shown signs of instability and shows great performance, I wouldn't sweat it yet

Is anyone using Geil memory on this mobo, or has anyone heard of any problems using it on this mobo? Particularly, Ultra Platinum PC4000.
Thanks.

I have this board(bought it last week) and its running solid and has no issues. Its definately not and overclokers board.. Im using 2x Kingston HyperX PC3500.
I have P4 2.6C that is itching to do over 3ghz and this board will not allow it.. so its going bye bye. Also it looks like a christmas tree inside my case with that corny northbridge led fan. I like lighted cases.. but thats annoying.I got over anxious and paid $149 at compusa... never do that again. IC7 Max3 for me

So, Elite9 care to elaborate? Did it fix any issues you may have been having or did it cause any? Thanks.

I got a reply back from the review site that said the AGP/PCI wasn't locked and he said he was indeed using an old BIOS that did not have that option.

PCnutt, it's probably your memory or could be just not a great CPU batch. Everything I've seen on this mobo said it was the best O'clocker tested, or at worse "among the best" O'clockers. At least two review sites got 3.6ghz out of it (300mhz FSB & over 1200mhz bus) with a 2.4C. I don't recall the memory they were using but I think it was Corsair. The 2.4C is a better O'clocker than the 2.6.

Elaborate on what...you didn't really ask anything. 1.5 is fine, my 2.4C runs 3.0 no sweat and nothing else of significance seems amiss.

BTW, I think it's hilarious when people can't go over 3GHz and they blame it on the mobo.

Well computer and elite9. I dont think its the ram..in single channel mode I was able to push the fsb up to 230 with no problems but that cuts memory bandwidth in half. In dual channel mode Im barely able to do the 215. I seriously doubt this board would do the 300fsb
