Anyone know for sure if 512MB/1024MB geIL Dual Channel DDR400 ultra low latency memories will work with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R mobo? Also, if I use 512MB(2x256) on slots 1 & 3 for dual-channel use now and decide later on to add another 512MB(2x256) on slots 2 & 4, will dual-channel mode still work with all slots filled for a total of 1GB memory? I know these questions sound very n00bish, but I'm new to dual-channel memory. Thanks in advance!

get the latest MBM 5.3.2.0 i think settings are as follows:

CPU temp - winbond 2 diode
Case temp - winbond 1
Northbridge temp - winbond 3

One question.

Will the Neo-LSR operate as it is supposed to with a 800MHz FSB CPU?

I see a lot of problems with 533. But with 800, there doesn't seem to be many issues.

Now I'm ready to order pending some replies - so if there's any last minute "STOP! THE MSI KILL YOUR MOTHER AND KICK YOU IN THE GROIN!", this is the time to say it for me.

for the most part i think the problems have been with 533fsb and there have been 2 new bois releases, the most current being the 1.2 bios so i think that might be fixed already. i am getting this board. 'nuff said.

Let us know how it goes, I'm still undecided.

Well it's on its way. Hopefully it won't explode or catch fire. I'm tempted to replace the chipset fan after that horror story on Newegg, but I think I'll hold off for a bit.

The SHIPPING 1.1 BIOS does NOT overclock in BIOS with either an 800 or 533 FSB processor. Neither does the latest upgrade 1.2 BIOS. There is supposedly a beta BIOS somewhere that at least allows overclocking, but it is not posted at MSI. There is also an issue with CoreCell causing wild fluctuations in vCore under stress. Evan has an update stating all this in the review -- check the review's BIOS section for the update.

Is this a reporting problem like this temperature, or is it actually happening? And could this potentially cause damage?

I don't plan to overclock initially - not even with the CoreCell utility. I plan on waiting for the BIOS fixes. So should I be relatively free of troubles at stock speed for a while?

OK whats the verdict on this board. I hear a lot about it being picky with memory. I have two Apacer and two Samsung PC2700 512mb modules - (CL2.5 I think) can I be pretty confident that these modules will actually work in this board? They work fine at the moment in my Max2-LRU MSI motherboard. Also, I have an FSB400 Northwood P4 - that can run 533FSB without any problem - will this work in the Neo-FIS2R motherboard then?

Thanks in advance!

Isn't the only difference the speed of the FSB? If so, my 400FSB is running 533 now, so I can't really see how it couldnt be compatible.

My case has two connectors for USB ports mounted on the front. Inside the case, there are two wires from the front of the case to connect to USB headers on the motherboard. One header fits five pins, the other fits four. One reads VCC / USB1- / USB1+ / GND. The other reads VCC / USB2- / USB2+ / GND / SHIELD.

Looking at the documentation on this MB, I don't see anything to plug these into except for maybe the JUSB2 and JUSB3 ports, both of which have five pins on the top, and four pins on the bottom, but, according to the manual, are intended for ONE plug which is attached to the PCI USB bracket mount.

Can I safely plug the wires in separately? Will they work?

Dammit, GameVE said they had the LSR in stock when I ordered it last Friday. Their site *still* says it's in stock - but I was sent an email yesterday saying it was *out* of stock, and the order was on hold.

Don't order this board from GameVE folks - they do NOT have it. I cancelled the order and placed another at AccuPC, and had them confirm the stock with the warehouse before finalizing the purchase. It'll ship today - but that puts my board off 'til Friday.

This issue may have already been covered, but for those who missed it, the 865p and 875p chipsets will support 400 fsb northwood cpus (512 cache), but not the willamette cpus (256 cache).

o1die: Thanks for clearing that up.

Another question: It only supports 1.5v AGP it seems. So... I haven't been able to find any voltage info on my MSI GF4TI4600 - but I assume it's so new that its 1.5v??

That's been already asked. But ...
What is the final word for that MB? Are there any problems with it?
What is the best memory to use with this MB?
If I order it should I look for anything more specific then just a name of the MB? I mean do they come as different models?
I want to use P4 2.53. Any recomendations here? Tell me, please about a CPU fan either.
What case would you recommend?

TIA, Mark

Question - would you suggest I create a DOS boot disk and flash the BIOS of this board before building my new system with it?

I just bought the NEO-LSR and there seems to be a discrepency between the specs and the actual hardware on the board. The spec says 8 total USB ports. 6 in the rear and two for the front. problem is there are 4 hardwired ports on the board, 2 more rear ports on an optional bracket that contains 4 green diagnostic LEDS. When you plug in the 2 rear optional ports to JUSB2 header, there is no place to plug in the 2 front USB ports to your case. The manual says the front ports go to header JUSB3. JUSB3 is not installed on my NEO-LSR. Now this may be just an "extra" feature on the FIS2R model but the spec does state 8 USB ports 6 rear and 2 front......problem is you can only use the rear 2 or the front 2 at any given time. Anybody with the LSR version do you have a header called JUSB3?????? Googlegear tech support is worse than useless and MSI support is unreachable. They want you to submit your problem via the internet and then they "might" reply within 48 hours.

Hi all,

I just joined the forums today and wanted to give my impressions of my MSI 875p Neo FIS2R. Earlier I also posted some thoughts in this thread:

Thread

I have had an excellent experience thus far with this motherboard. When I first got it in the mail I was amazed at how much extra stuff they include with the board. For more info on what comes with the board you can check any of the sites that carry them, suffice to say it was quite a bit. The installation was easy, the layout of the board is excellent. All the connectors are in easy to access spots and there is plenty of room to operate in there.

The manual is pretty good as well, I havent had any major problems so I haven't had to search for anything specific but there seems to be a good amount of information.

Unlike some others, I had no problems installing and running my Corsair Twinx512-3200llpt at the SPD settings which are 2-2-2-5, however, if you do have this problem it is really easy to get into the BIOS and change the settings to something slower.

Overclocking is also quite easy using both the BIOS and the CoreCenter utility MSI includes with the package. Since I ordered and received my board very early I received one with BIOS version 1.0 so I can't comment on the problems that people have had with versions 1.1 and 1.2. Version 1.3 was released a few days ago however so hopefully any problems have been fixed. Although I had no previous overclocking experience I was easily able to get my 3.0 Ghz CPU up to 3.3 Ghz. I could have done more but I wanted to do some more research on overclocking before I do.

The stability of the board is also fantastic. I have not had one crash in the week I have had the computer running.

The only thing I am mildly concerned about is the CPU seems to run fairly hot....usually around 55c during idle and upwards of 65c under load. This is using a Vantec Aeroflow heat sink so I'm not sure what the cause of the high temps are....maybe that is normal for these CPU's. I'm not even sure if the motherboard has anything to do with that.

Overall I would say this board is awesome, I haven't had any problems with it thus far. The features, easy of use, stability etc have all been very good. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Found one annoyance so far: Sometimes when you boot your system, the Corecenter utility says he can't find the hardware monitor and it will reboot your system. You have to shut down the process for it to avoid the shutdown.

Then, oddly enough, when you reload Corecenter, it finds the hardware monitor just fine.

Any thoughts on this? Should I just not have it load at startup?
