For those of you with this question before, the Zalman 7000B fits. I emailed Zalman and they sent me new brass standoffs that work with the existing backplate on the MSI board.

After reading about all the issues and problems people are having with the SLI board ... I am removing it from consideration!
I have 2 questions though, and I appreciate honest answers!
1- Do the K8N NEO2 Nforce3 Ultra PLATINUM and K8N NEO4 Nforce4 Ultra Platinum have similar issues to the SLI model?
2- Which one of the 2 is more stable at stock speed and is less problematic?
I don't care much about o'c or future upgrades... I just want to get out of Intel!

I decided to play guinea pig and flash to the official 1.2 BIOS... behaves more or less just like the 1.2 betas. New CPU overvolting options still present, but no other new tweaks that I can see.

Hello,

I just purchased the Neo4 from Xpcgear.com and am going to put it in a Chenming case. I was just wondering about the IDE cables that come with the board.
Can anyone tell me the color and Length of the cables? What size would be best?

Thanks,

Steve

Received the K8N Neo4 Platinum on Friday from ZZF and built the system yesterday, including a 3200+ Winchester and 2x512 Corsair Value Select 3200 CAS2.5, but I can't get the system to boot. Everything turns on, but I get nothing on screen, and the diagnostic LEDs show:
RG
RR
which according to the manual, is the "Memory Detection Test. Testing onboard memory size. The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly."

I've seen that others have successfully used the same memory. I've tried one stick at a time in both slots 1 and 3, and even pulled a stick of higher-end Corsair XMS 3200LLPT from a working system, all with the same results, so it doesn't really appear to be the memory. Can anyone think of anything to try, or do I just RMA the motherboard?

Sent the board back to ZZF... received my replacement and set it up during the week - everything's working fine! I'm a happy man.

Ok first post here, and second build... First AMD. I like the features of this board except for the NB fan... This thing is just so inadaquate it's pathetic...:disgust:. For those of you that have put it on a device to "slow" it down... Don't!!! I have a Thermaltake hardcano heat sensor hooked to this thing and if I plug it in to the hardcano itself its running at a whopping 59'C to 60' C.... If I plug it back into the mobo it runs at 51'C. Which I feel is still pretty high, and the placement of this heatsink does not allow for much modification...
Ok now to my question... The only problem I'm having is that every once in a while the system restarts on its own.... And there is no "regulated" amount of time in which this occurs... In otherwords it can be 1 minute after shutting down or as much as 2 hours??? Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it??? Thanks in advance.

I had to rma the board for a new one to stop the random reboots plus my first one would sometimes boot my system at half speed. The replacement board is stable so far but we did have to up our ram voltage above what kingston says is the operating voltage. Funny since the same ram is running just fine on my fatal1ty at stock voltage.

Have you people done complete Windows full new installs?
I have had no problems with UT2004 or any other games.

Everytime I replace my motherboard I do a full re-install.
I know alot of people do not. And most times this is the problem
people have. So wipe that drive clean and start all over.

Just a suggestion.

Of course I did a fresh install as the other set up was a P4 system (my first computer was an 8086 on dos 3.0)... I have reset the bios to failsafe and as yet no problems but I have not flashed the bios... yet. I was just looking to see if anyone else was having this problem... What gets me is how it is so random of a thing... I mean I could understand if it happened at certain intervials but to wake up and find the thing running is almost twilight zone... At least to me.

Yeah, I had a problem getting my mb to boot, initially got the D-bracket to show 1/4 red, 2/3 green and that's where it stopped and no signal was going to my LCD. But I fiddled with the cables and and the vid card and it worked...but then neither network connection would work after WinXP Pro SP2 install. I dorked around with the Network Connection settings and finally got the Marvell Yukon one to work (but it was slow). Finally I just ended up reinstalling WinXP and everything, including the network connections worked. It was strange, but I'm a happy camper now

I recently in the last month purchased this mobo in hopes of getting a good overclock. I recently got new memory (had twinx Corsair PC3200 512MB, now twinx Corsair PC4400 1GB). I was a socket A OC veteran, but A64 is new territory for me.

My current setup:

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (non SLI)
A64 3200 socket 939 90nm Winchester
2x512 Corsair twinx PC4400 @ 2.5-3-3-10
XFX GeforceFX 6600GT
Seagate Barracuda IV 120GB ATA100
Antec Truepower 550W PSU
Thermaltake K8 Venus Silent boost HSF

Everything was swell when I started OC'ing. I was up to 10x220, no problems. I tried 10x230, and it was a no go. I had already dropped my HTT to 4, and made sure my memory had 2.75v (what Corsair recommends). I also bumped the chipset voltage to 1.65. After doing this, windows booted up. I was running a benchmark in Sandra 2005, and it locked. Ok, I thought I might need to give the processor a little voltage bump. So, I think I put it to 1.45v. So, when I hit F10 to save and exit, the system just shut down, and the power light on my case started flashing. It would not reboot. I had to clear the CMOS, and set everything back to stock. It almost seems like if I try OC now, the system does this. Anyone else had this problem, or know of a solution?

Update:

Ok, have done some more messing around. I am not having any problems with complete shutdown if I just tell it to increase CPU voltage to +8.3% (trying to give it a definate value seemed to shut it down). I have booted and run sandra at 9x250, HTT x3, memory 2.5-3-3-10 1:1, and everything was working just fine. However, if I try to reboot, it will not beep, and the monitor light just flashes like its not getting a signal. I can change settings in the bios, and most of the time boot into windows and play games, benchmark, etc. however, if I reboot, or shut down and try to reboot, it won't come back up. This is very frustrating!!

This is problem with nForce4 vs Winchester. You cant go above 220 stable. It shloud be solved in future BIOS update. If you want OC, do it in OS - nTune or something else. You can set voltages in BIOS and FSB in OS.

From readning this thread I am seriously reconsidering my A64 + MSI Route. I had the Platinum SLI card in mind, but from all the problems posters here have it looks to me like the quality of a VIA 133 chipset motherboard...

How can the card get a Gold - recomended by AT - when it has all these problems? Or are there just so many users out there that dont know what they're doing that have these problems?

Coupled with the fact that most posters do not give the 'full information' regarding their setup it is a bit hard to judge the problems of the card... Having been a faithfull ASUS user since 1997 i'm a bit wary to try other brands.. Especially considering the fact that MSI and DFI are considered second rate, at least by me

So, could everyone who do NOT have problems with this motherboard (specifically the SLI one) raise their hands and list their specs, so I can at least know that it works for someone.. [Please also post any issues you had and how you solved them.].

Thanks =)

I have a similar rig and having problems with corrupted digital TV viewing and recording when 150MCE card is recording at same time. I use my 150MCE under GBPVR.

At first I suspected this was related to hard disk usage however this problem does not occur when timeshifting on the digital card. I can also copy large files to and from the HD without any impact on digital tv viewing and recording quality.

I suspect the problem maybe related to PCI latency handing of the nforce4 chipset. The problem does not occur using the same capture cards on my previous intel celeron 865 based system.

I'm awaiting a reply from MSI support but would advise people to stay away from this board if running multiple capture cards.

A64 Winchester 3000+
512mb corsair 3200LL
Albatron PC6600U

:frown: Anyone have any problems with the Core Center program that comes with this MSI board? Just wanted to say that at least for me, I would recommend not using that program to overclock...I tried it starting at the 1% setting and then stepping up finally to only the 7% setting for the FSB and thats when my computer rebooted. However, after the bios did its thing upon reboot, the final screen (the one with all the settings that usually are too quick to read), is where it stopped and a little message at the bottom said "Error loading OS". It appears my OS was fatally damaged by the Core Center program. I tried rebooting 5 times, going into the Bios to check that things were okay. My diagnostic lights all were green showing that the mb was working properly, but when it came time for the OS to take over, the "error loading OS" message kept popping up. I even tried resetting the CMOS and tried using the WinXP Pro (SP2) CD to try to see if it could repair the OS. Nothing worked, so I eventually had to format and re-install WinXP. I guess I was stupid to trust a software program for overclocking instead of doing it the normal way by using the bios...I've certainly learned my lesson, hehe.

I can run my neo4 sli board at 300 but it will not run superpi. Yet at 296 fsb it is rock solid. It will pass any test I throw at it. superpi 32m ran at 27:14. I just wish I could run my memory at 1 to 1 fsb.

Clockgen is a decent software based program.

The problem I have with the MSI is that the voltages are lax. I set vcore to 1.71 volts, and the board gives me a range from 1.63-1.66, not the 1.71 I specified. I am not effected by the Winchester OC problem though, so I am quite happy. If they can release a BIOS update that improves the voltage issue, that would be awesome. I just don't want to do a volt mod and destroy my board.
