I also have another question: Should I use my old Sound Blaster Audigy or is the onboard sound better?

I've been using the onboard sound just because my old sound card is a bit outdated (5yr old santa cruz turtle beach). I' ve never been a fan of soundblaster products. I'm looking into an M Audio card . But the onboard audio is decent in my opinion. It really depends on the speakers you are using. I would test it with and without, see if you notice a difference. If not, don't bother, it only crowds the space and blocks airflow to your video card.

Has anyone using MSI's Core Center utility have it popping up(alarm going off) for no reason? I have cool & quiet disbaled in my bios but have enabled it in Core Center...does this screw things up? I have my rig moderately overclocked...should I just uninstall the damn thing? My fan speed alarms are set low...my temps set high and I find the alrm going off when everyhing is running fine. The only use for me is to control the CPU fan speed and checking the CPU temps...is there some other utility that will allow me to do this?

CoreCenter blows. Use Speedfan to monitor temps. I have the K8N Neo4 SLI and Speedfan works great.

Thanks...just installed it. I kinda figured out the CPU stuff and see the NB fan RPMs...what's the other?

Fan 1 should be case fan plugged into mobo
Fan 2= CPU
Fan 3=NB

temps can be sketchy to sort out, let me try:

Temp1= case
temp2= CPU
temp3= mosfets
Local temp= video card ambient (wildy innacurate)
Remote temp= GPU (wildy innacurate)
HDx= hard drives
temp1= I have no idea.

well....start by reading:

http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=m...index&req=viewarticle&artid=126&page=1

and search around to see what's been done with the 3500+ on the cpu/overclocking forum.

I'm a newbie at this OCing thing...I have only moderately OCed my rig as you can see by my sig.

Good luck!

Regrettably, the "Shutdown Bug" I was previously experiencing while using BIOS 1.9 has come back to haunt me while using BIOS 1.6! It happened during my 12th shutdown since downgrading to BIOS 1.6. While commanding a shutdown, a restart instead happened. CHKDSK ran and again corrupted my Netscape 7.2 user profile. Netscape was not running at the time of shutdown. Consequently, I am inclined to conclude that MSI may be right after all. It may be a piece of my hardware or software that is causing the issue. However, I am at a loss as to how to narrow down the cause without sacrificing functionality. Regarding the hardware, the only things I can move or remove is RAM and a PCI SCSI card. Regarding software, it could be one of any number of pieces related to the new hardware. I am sure I scared many people off by my previous posts regarding BIOS 1.9. I would like to apologize for leading everone to a faulty conclusion and encourage others to give BIOS 1.9 another try.

I have a K8n Neo 4 Platinum non-SLI.

Disabling restart on system failure, along with disabling the Marvel LAN and using the nVidia LAN isntead, fixed my restart problems.

I've recently been suffering the video blanking problem, where the video signal stops and the machine must be re-booted. I traced this to the windows USB drivers for my Logitech USB keyboard/mouse combo. Loading the Logitech drivers fixed the problem.

It has taken me > two months, but I have finally fixed all of the problems with this finicky motherboard! Now I'm afraid to change my configuration...

I'm curios, what BIOS are you on? CPU..overclocked?

Zhar, thanks for the suggestion. My System Failure|Automatically Restart check box was unchecked at the time of this incident and others.
KitC, thanks for your suggestion. I am presently using the Marvell LAN controller and will give the nVidia LAN controller a try to see if that does the trick. I'll report back on the results.

No overclock

no overclock?....why not? hehe.

Reason I asked was cuz I just had an issue with my system rebooting while playing games, specifically GTA-SA and Warcraft III...I think I solved it. I think it was onboard sound drivers...I had installed Total Recorder and it screwed something up...I have since uninstalled it and the Realtek sound drivers and downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Realtek website....seems to have solved the problem.

So I took the plunge and got one of these boards, my setup (what it will be in about 3 days) you can see in my sig. Any tips for getting this board to work right first try? I currently am running an MSI NEO2 Plat with a GeForce FX 5900.

The manual is actually pretty good imo. If you are loading your OS on SATA drive, make sure you get the drivers installed first before attempting to load the OS. Oh...and for SATA drives, use the nVidia SATA ports, not the Silcone ports. As other have suggested, disable the USB Storage option. I would aslo make sure that you don't enable any of the Dynamic Overclocking, Cool & Quiet or Agressive timings...do that stuff manually once you have everything goin' smooth.

Good luck!

Myy goodness...folks, this board is the highest level of royal pain I have ever delt with a new installation. Screen goes blank, bios logo gets garbled, and now that SOB tells me from time to time that there is no KB connected. As of now HE is autodetecting some IDE drive I donno where, and it's been in its nice blue screen for the last ten mins. Jesus! I should not have bought another MSI. What u guys think?

I'm not using SATA thank god, I hate having to deal with those HDD's. Right now I have a duel boot system (on two different drives) one drive with WinXP 64-bit and one with just regular old XP. Is there a place I could go to read up on some basic overclocking? I've never overclocked a CPU before, only my vid card (which is ridiculously easy). Why would you not want to use the Dynamic Overclocking? Is it unstable or something?

dynamic overclocking is like automatic transmission, manual OC is like manual gear, you decide your comp's fate.

Like Slayek says...you like manual or automatic? I prefer manual. you don't really know what the dynamic overclocking is doing...atleast I don't. I tried using it at first but it wasn't very stable. This is the first time i've built a rig and overclocked.

This thread was very useful:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=28&threadid=1497607&enterthread=y

but i kinda toyed around a bit and kinda stumble on a configuration I was happy with...nothing too crazy...about 25% increase on clock speed. From 1.8Ghz to 2.25Ghz.

Hey, I plan on using the neo4 platinumpaired with:

4400+ X2
2x 1gb sticks of corsair XMS
BFG 7800gtx OC
2x Sata hard drives (80gb and 300gb Seagate Barracudas)
3 opticals + 1 pata hard drive (take up the two IDE channels)
E-power Tagan 480watt U22 powersupply

I was hoping you guys could shed a lot of information on how I can get this system up and running without problems and everything. Thanks in advanced.
