Heat in 7 is my prediction. Both teams are very hungry for a championship and I think this series will come down to the superstars on each team. The Heat have a slight advantage with Wade and Shaq, it all comes down to how they will defend Dirk... And given how they have stepped up their D in playoffs, I think they will be able to contain him.

screw that.

Eastern division is sooo damn weak. Pistons were the shining light, but now they are gone. Its the mavs all the way. I give the heat 1 win in the whole series

Dallas wins in 6. Dallas has too much overall talent. They have shown they can play offense and defense. Diop and Dampier are good enough to keep Shaq from going apesh!t. And I don't think Miami has any answer for Dirk. Wade could have a huge series, but I think Howard and Griffin can keep him in check most of the time. Dallas has homecourt and that will play a big factor in this series.

I don't think Dampier and Diop will contain Shaq at all. The Wallaces couldn't do it. Will the Mavs double on Shaq?

I'm going to lean towards the Heat in 7 but I think it'll be close and could easily be Mavs.

For the Heat to win they will need their role players to show up which is everyone not named wade and oneal. They cannot expect shaq to turn back the clock every game. Nor can they expect white chocolate to go 8-8.

Dampier(who will finally do something to earn his money) and Diop I suspect Avery will use to just slow shaq down and use up all 12 fouls between the two and put shaq to the line.

Avery Johnson has been pretty resourceful so far and seems to have all the players buying into his gameplan.

If I was the Mavs I would treat the Heat just like the 2004 lakers and use the Pistons game plan. Wade(Kobe) and Shaq will get points, put it on the other guys to make the basket.

What have the heat done at all this season that makes people think they can beat the mavs in dallas? They had a mediocre regular season, beat the nets who were only in the playoffs because they could get hot and win 10 games, they beat the pistons, who had a great season but FOLDED in the postseason and I might add were beat by the mavs in dallas by 40 POINTS. Oh and I forgot, they beat the bulls. whoop de frikin do. If they didn't beat the pistons the way detroit was playing miami should have been kicked out of the NBA. Seriously, the east is a joke. I am not saying sweep or even that the heat suck, just saying they can't keep up with the mavs. That being said, mavs in 6. I think it will be 3-1 after 4, heat will win 5 in miami, then Mavs close it out in Dallas in game 6.

dallas in 5 unless the refs totally screw up the calls AGAIN...(although Mavs/Suns Game 6 was decently officiated)...

SHAQ=Human Foul Machine, but Damp and Diop aren't too far behind...we will see who gets the calls...

Mavs-Suns game 6 was horribly officiated. Their ticky-tack calls put most of the Suns starters in foul trouble, resulting in lots of bench time.

MAVs were in foul trouble also. You can blame the refs, but phx gave up a 18 pt lead.

o yea, the alledged mvp steve nash played pretty dam bad in the 2nd half. Real mvp's usually comes through in crunch time. Dirk forced the issue and made baskets. Nash crumbled under the pressure.

dirk did not do much in the 2nd half of game 6 other than what he usually does. josh howard did by shutting down steve nash. dirk has a much better supporting cast around him and probably the best in the nba. phoenix is without their best athlete (amare).

it would be interesting to see how dampier/diop guard shaq and how posey/walker guard nowitzki.

I belive that it comes down to officiating on and energy level of shaq. Wether you want to admit it or not he can still dominate a game and shut the opponent down in the paint if he stays out of foul trouble. I keep thinking he is going to wear down like in the past, but its yet to happen when they need him.
Wade and Dirk will play well reguardless and besides that its the same "Role players must step up in order for their team to win" thing.
Im going heat in 7 beacuase this was my pick all year. I did guess this matchup right after all .

It's going to be a great series...I'm not going to sit here and predict this and predict that..because the fact of the matter is I don't know. I hope the Heat can take it in 6.

All I do say are "Ifs"...so for fun I'll do that. If the the Heat play like they did for the last 12 games or so...they will be tough to beat in a 7 game series. Toss out the regular season...the Heat had a terrible showing vs conference winners but look what they did in the playoffs.....beat hot teams at their house and at home..they stepped up their defense also which I think is key. It's proven..no one can cover Shaq..not even the Defensive Player of the Year so why would you think that the Mavs centers can? Wade...well...he's unstoppable even when sick. That 3rd period was amazing...he's become a wonderful player..dishing out assists because he was illing...and scoring to bat...he's the best player on the floor - period.

It's going to come down to role players - again.....and defense - again. Dirk will get his..but I think that Miami has a way better D than Phoenix. If they can slow the game down the Heat have a great shot at taking the title.

So who's the Dallas fan that I'm going to have fun with???

Go Heat!!!!

Good job beating the Spurs, but besides them what has Dallas done in the playoffs that Miami has not?

Miami vs Chicago
Dallas vs Memphis

A wash. Chicago stepped it up later in the year and has a very young and very talented team. They will be a force to reckoned with next year. Memphis is an OK team but overall I wouldn't say either team is that great.

Miami VS NJ
Dallas VS San Antonio

Many "experts" predicted the Nets in 6 over the Heat. The Nets have a strong starting 5 and Jefferson, Kidd and VC are all top 20 players in the NBA.
After a very disappointing game 1 loss to NJ, Miami dominated the series and won very easily, 4-1.

Dallas obviously played a much better opponent, and beating San Antonio was quite a feat. I?ll give Dallas the edge this round.

Miami VS Detroit
Dallas VS Phoenix

Miami played the team with the NBA?s best record, a team that has played in the Eastern Conference finals 4 straight years. Detroit was the most consistent and best team throughout the regular season. On the other hand, Dallas played against a Phoenix team missing its best player, a team with no bigs and a team that had to go 7 VS the Clippers and the Lakers. Advantage Miami.

So in the Playoffs, you can not argue that Miami?s road the finals was weaker than Dallas. As a matter of fact, the quality of their opponents have been very similar. If you going to talk some trash back it with facts.

It should be an interesting series...I think that these two teams are really great for the finals and I'm glad to see them both there (thank god the Pistons and Spurs are gone).

Here are my predictions:

1.) I have absolutely no idea if any of this will actually happen since its impossible to predict anything with teams from different conferences.

2.) Dwade and Dirk are both unstoppable, so they will both dominate, although Josh Howard may be able to slow Dwade down and force some turnovers (Wade has been rather turnover-prone this postseason). Heat have NOBODY to guard Dirk (then again, who does?)

3.) It should come down to Shaq and how he manages to play against the Dampier-Diop front line. Although both Mavs bigs suck, they play decent D, and can be scrappy enough down there to slow Shaq down and force some longer jump hooks if he gets lazy. The Heat will absolutely pound the ball down low, however, since the mavs are too quick on the perimiter to open up spots for a Jason Williams or Posey to get open looks. I think if Shaq plays the way he still can and puts up 25 and 13 every game, the Heat have a great shot at winning it.

4.) Although a big deal is made out of Zo, GP, and Toine the Mavs have a better supporting cast. Stackhouse has been great the entire postseason, and the Heat have nobody to guard either Terry nor Devin Harris (forget about guarding Harris on the perimeter...Barbosa might have been fast enough, but GP is slow as dirt now and Williams is suspect, they need the shotblockers to really step up once Harris penetrates).

My prediction is this: if Shaq plays fantastic basketball this whole series, Heat in 7. If Shaq gets into foul trouble or can't get up as many shots as he needs and has sub-par games, Dallas will win it in 6. At their best, I feel like the Heat are a better team than Dallas, but the Heat are pretty up and down. Dallas plays great every time they're out there, whether at home or on the road.

Anyways, I can't give two predictions like that without being seen as a pussy, so I will compromise between my two picks and give you: Mavs in 7.
