I'm debating between a 160GB Classic and a 16GB Touch right now. While I dig the Touch form factor and wifi, 10x the storage + $50 in the bank is hard to pass up.

The touch is a great idea with a great build to prove it. However like all things Apple...once something new comes out the average consumer needs time for the product to improve and the prices to go down. Spending 400 bucks on 16 gigs and a cool interface isn't worth the penny imo just yet. The classic is a huge steal now...and I'm really glad to see Apple upping their sizes. Classic was named that to be phased out in 6 months to a year.

IMHO, Flash is where it's at. 160GB sounds great on the Classic but you got that damn hard drive. I'd rather take the 16GB Touch.

$299 for the 8GB ipod Touch sounds a little overpriced, given that the iPhone is only $399 for 16GB. But the iPhone also has a high cost for usage (AT&T service plan.) So I don't know. If I had $400 I would definitely buy the 16GB...but then, I would want a camera too for that amount of money!

the iphone does not have a 16GB option. it is $399 for 8GB. the 16GB is only for the iPod touch at the same price point as the iphone.

Oh I see. Sorry about that.

That's you. I know plenty of people that would forgo the flash for 160GB of space (or 80GB). granted, mostly for video, so they'd go for something not apple (ipod screen is just a hair too small still IMO).

I'll either pick up a classic or nano most likely, I need the one handed operation for the car. And the money to pay for tires, heh

When will regular retailers get their supply of new ipods?

I have some Best Buy gift cards to use.

I've been using my 160GB iPod classic since Friday, and I have to say that I may be able to finally retire my 4th generation black and white iPod. The album artwork lag problem that made me despise the 5th generation models is gone, and 160GB of space is nuts.

The only thing I don't like is that it feels underpowered. The click wheel feels jumpy rather then smooth, and the menus can get a little sluggish with tens of thousands of songs.

Cover flow isn't as choppy as I thought it'd be, but I still can't see myself using it.

Changing shuffle modes with the center button is nice too.

arstechnica has a review here and it is quite disappointing. Well, it's good for me because it makes me less likely to buy the new iPods, but overall, it seems like a huge step back.

The flowing UI is why I liked it so much. smooth, quick, easy. I'll have to see in stores for myself, but all this coverflow push seems like a waste. Sure, it looks pretty, but even on my iMac (2.16 c2d/2GB ram) it isn't buttery smooth. Or rather, I guess it just doesn't feel like it is.
