I just dont know how they keep coming up with these no-name beast QBs on the bench that step up to the big show when the star goes down.

that's the interesting part though, would they really pay the premium for Cassel that he has earned himself and keep Brady when he's going to be injured and a possible question mark after healing due to the injury (Carson Palmer for instance...)?

the Pats were either brilliant, cheap, or perhaps a bit of both when they seemingly refused to pick up another free agent QB when so many thought they should after Brady got injured

granted this is all just speculation at this point in time, I really doubt Brady is going to miss next season, at least I'll doubt it until I hear more/better information on what exactly isn't going quite right, right now its just interesting to consider what could happen...

I thought it was the Giants, although one TV station had them playing in the Panther's bracket (I think that's wrong though).

Further proof that it's more the system than the QB... Belicheck could turn Romo into a superstar (maybe but even THAT's a longshot).

not really...Brady covered up lots of the issues the pats had (even on the D). It was not until he was hurt that we realized how many holes the team had.

Hey dumbass, why couldn't the season end on a Monday? It's a legit question.

and it was legitimately answered (playoffs start on Saturday, so there is potential to have even one less day)

And this happens during the regular season as well... not to say it isn't better that the NFL does it the way they do, but to say "beacuse it is the end of the season" is a stupid reply.

I thought it was the Giants, although one TV station had them playing in the Panther's bracket (I think that's wrong though).

Unless they changed the playoff format this year, the playoffs are not "bracketed". It is always highest seed plays lowest seed left, and so forth. Thus the "3-6" matchup controls the second round game because the 1 and 2 seeds have byes.

If the "3" (Minn/Mia) seed wins then they play the "2" seed (Carolina/Pitt) and the "1" seed plays the "4/5" winner in the divisional round. If the "6" seed wins (Philly/Balt) then they play the "1" seed (NYG/Tenn) with the "4/5" winner" playing the "2" seed.

Thus to answer your question, if Philly wins they will play NYG in the next round.

Edit: Here is some more information I got from CBS Sports.com:

During the regular season, the NFL Playoff Race Bracket and Seeds reflect how the playoffs would stand if the season ended up to that point. The NFL playoffs are not based on a pure bracket system. In the divisional playoffs, the No. 1 seed is assured of playing the lowest-seeded Wild Card survivor. There are no restrictions on intra-division games and the higher seed of any matchup will have home-field advantage.

Mangini is gone...I wonder who we'll bring in to replace him. Cowher has to be the best coach available, but I doubt he really would want to come to NY.

With Brady still in limbo, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats slap the franchise tag on Cassel.

This news + Pats missing the playoffs + Brady likely done =

HOw is Brady likely done good news? He is a future HOF and is entertaining as hell watching him play from behind.

Brackets aren't inflexible

in the NFL, the #1 seed will always play the lowest seed to make it out of the wild card round

if the #6 seed Eagles win, they'll automatically hop over to play the Giants (same with the #6 Ravens going to the #1 Titans should they win against #3 Miami), and whoever wins the other game will go to play the Panthers

the silly bracket is just setup that way because it assumes the most likely scenario of the higher seeded home teams winning (or at least just the #3 seed, which would automatically go to the #2).

It's good news for me

He was talking trash before the Super Bowl, and it's been downhill for him since then. Good riddance.
