Wow, Kronwall got 4 minutes for that? It was a completely clean hit. The other idiot came up the boards with his head down and Kronwall squared up, led with his shoulder, and didn't leave his feet. He didn't even cover enough distance to call it a charge. How on earth is that 2, let alone a double?

No, the announcer got it wrong at first. It was Potter that got the penalty for going after Kronwall.

There was no penalty, as mentioned above.
Oilers got the penalty.

OK, because I've watched two Flyers games this weekend and seen the worst officiating I've seen in the 15 years I've watched professional hockey. Nothing would shock me.

The officiating wasn't saving the Flyers in either game. The goaltending is just not there this year (same old story).

Never made the claim that it would have. It doesn't excuse how awful the officiating has been this season - across the league, not just for the Flyers.

Wow, are the Hawks in full on meltdown mode or what? 8 straight losses?

The same team that once had a comfy lead on top of the west.

EDIT: Just checked their schedule, they are 5-15 since new years. And the rest of the season is pretty brutal, road trip heavy, this week @ Nashville and @NYR

You shouldn't be. The post-lockout NHL is about maximizing scoring and "excitement" not actually calling the game. Lots of missed calls, figuring they can give a cheap makeup call later. Lots of calls based on the result, not the act. It ruins the flow of the game.

Don't get me started on gimmicks like the shootout. 4 on 4 OT is awesome - but let it end in a tie if it has to. Consider 10 min OT if you want to minimize ties. The shootout is horrendous.

And some games being worth 3 points? WTF. If you have to keep the SO, it needs to be 3 for a win in reg or OT, 2 to the winner of a SO, 1 to the loser of a SO.

I don't like the shoot out point system at all. I like getting rid of the 2 line pass that was slowing down the game. Also the clutch and grab that New Jersey did through out the 90's was boring hockey glad that is gone.

The PENS tonight pretty much dominated the lighting. They were passing at will and TB could not do anything in the third period. Malken is on fire right now 7 points in 2 games. I'm pretty happy with the PENS right now

Its wretched really. Their goalies are playing too far out, their D is just sloppy to put it mildly, and they stop playing now in the 1st or third period. Half the games I watch now they have FIVE guys CHASING the damn puck in their own zone. No one picks up the open guy on the backside of the net, which forces the goaltending, when it isn't 6 feet out, to play real tight.

I'd love to be able to call it a slump, but at this point a move needs to be made to at least shore up the D. This is systemic.

TSN reports:
The 2012 NHL trade deadline just got a whole lot more interesting.

Last night, RDS (TSN's French language sister station) reporter Renaud Lavoie reported that Columbus Blue Jacket franchise player Rick Nash "is on the market."

This morning, Columbus Dispatch reporter Aaron Portzline wrote on his blog that "for the first time, (the Blue Jackets) are willing to listen to offers for captain Rick Nash."
Which team will get him if this is true? Since he has a NMC it's his choice where he wants to go and if he wants to go. Considering that he is available I'm guessing he is tired of losing all the time and wants to win now.

Rumor around the D is Tamu Selane was sniffing around a possible signing with the wings before the deadline. IIRC, he is an unrestricted free agent, and is 41 years old, looking to cap his career with a cup.

To be honest, as a Wings fan, I'm not sure we want to add anyone right now. It's tempting because you know lots of good players would be willing to come to Detroit and be the talent that puts us over the top. But the Wings can win with the team they have now, it's too risky to mess with team chemistry past the mid point of the season.

Kinda seems like it would be a slap in the face to all the guys on the bench and in Grand Rapids that have been busting their ass within the organization for years. Look how many guys are playing well right now and are only there because someone who started the season is currently out with an injury.

rutuu injured, out for 3 weeks

so the hurricanes have gone from having a shitty team with 2 desirable UFAs they could deal for a nice return (both of which would almost certainly re-sign if management had wanted to discuss it) to having 2 older, meh d-men for which they might get a bag of pucks if theyre lucky.

cant wait to see them suck balls next year, too

Eklund is claiming to Kings... "but the deal as told to me by a League source is Nash for Bernier, Penner, Hunter...and a pick."

I find this incredibly difficult to believe. Penner and Hunter are both worthless and their contracts are up this year. Bernier has top goal tender potential written all over him, but that just doesn't seem like it would be enough. It also puts the Kings in a nasty spot. Nash is a huge cap hit, and while Stoll will be cut loose, that doesn't leave much left to re-sign Quick and pick up another needed mid-grade sniper.

My "sources" are just as good as Eklund's.

It is pretty hefty, 7.8 mil, but you only need to pay about 30% of that for the rest of the year. btw-Wings have $5.8 mil to play with.

The problem with any team picking him up will be next year.

Oh I know full well Eklund is garbage. My point was how impractical it really is. It would probably work out with 4.5M+/- to play with next year and then you have Quick to worry about the year after, and he'll likely pull Rinne dollars.
