Official NHL 2014 Playoffs thread

Sharks choke and die. Wild wins in OT. 1-3 for my hopes today. At least Nino is another former Winterhawks and I have one of his signed jersey's from his WHL days.

Well my days of not taking the Shorks seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

Really looking forward to the bloodbath that will be the Habs/Bruins series.

Well i made out pretty well with my first round predictions.

My first round guesses:

COL > MIN in 7
CHI > STL in 6
ANA > DAL in 7
LA > SJ in 6

BOS > DET in 5
MTL > TBL in 7
PIT > CLB in 7
NYR > PHI in 6

7/8 is pretty damn good, and i figured the Wild-Avs series was going to be really close anyway.

Obviously my pools stay the same, but i'm going to predict the second round here anyway.

CHI > MIN in 5
LA > ANA in 6

BOS > MTL in 6
NYR > PIT in 6

I don't understand when they were up 4-3 why they would play so defensively. I mean they spent 85% of the time letting the wild take shots at Varlamov.

That's how they played all of their away games. I wasn't too impressed with how they played most of these games honestly. Games 1 & 2 were great but then the Wild really went on the attack and the Avs didn't adjust too well. When you force your goalie to carry the series he's going to get worn out.

I think both of the 1 vs 8 series just show that experience beats youth come playoffs.

The Red Wings rookies that carried them through the 2nd half of the season were barely present while the injured vets produced most of the goals.

LA > ANA in 6

BOS > MTL in 7
NYR > PIT in 5

I think PIT is going to get smashed. They looked so terrible in the last period against CBJ, and MAF looked like crap for a majority of the series. If NY brings the pressure and can provide Hank with some solid D, I see this one ending pretty fast.

MN won in OT last night (5-4). Series over. MN advances and plays Chicago tomorrow night (May 2).

I'm still happy with the Avs season overall, in perspective they had a great season so there is always next year.

Losing Barrie was just too big a loss for us. Cooke did his job and effectively hurt us beyond repair. He was our PP QB and it was evident the rest of the series. Duchene helped but just not enough. Time to go get another big Dman in the offseason and resign Stastny. Stastny was outrageously good in this series.

It could have been worse, they could have choked away a 3-0 series lead like the Sharks

I'm picking Montreal over Boston.

Montreal has won 6 of last 8 meetings, and coming into this series winners of 6 in a row and 15 of last 19 overall.

I agree w/ PIT vs. NYR. In the couple games I watched the Rangers looked good. They were very good at causing turnovers and intercepting passes, and the Penguins just aren't consistent.

I don't really agree with the "Best Goalie wins" comment for this round. I think that applys most rounds. Chicago should beat Min regardless of Crawford in net, LA vs Anaheim is a pickum, Rask has not been good at all vs Montreal, and NYR vs Pitts will be all about offense as neither Goalie is in there prime.

I am about as big a Habs fan as there is and I think the Bruins' size and toughness will be very hard to overcome over 7 games. Price has never proved he is the goalie to carry the team. He has not made enough "impossible" saves when it matters. He is a great goalie - very, very technically sound but you need more in the playoffs.
