I just read Mike Smith's comments on Dustin Brown, saying he "should be out for forever".

lol what a piece of work this guy is. I could never root for for a team with Mike Smith in goal. If he would somehow end up on the Hawks I'd have to stop watching hockey for a while.

It was an forearm to the back of the helmet grazing, and Volchenkov pulled a cute little dive after he realized the back of his head was hit. To suspend Prust over such a pansy hit was ridiculous and NJ = diving pansies.

If someone hit me in the helmet with their forearm I would have laughed it off and not acted like I was hurt like Volchenkov did to embellish. It's fcking sad.

Hah, ok. Just like Flyers fans thought Volchenkov and Zidlicky were diving against them in game 5? And then they both missed practices with injuries?

It's not even worth discussing whether it was a hard hit or not when you're looking at the game through orange colored glasses. It's irrelevant. You said it was a legal hit, which it clearly is not. Even if it wasn't elbowing (orange colored glasses), it was an illegal check to the head. And it was intentional, which is why DeBoer called it headhunting.

As much as I hate having playoff games start at 8:00 p.m., it would suck even more to be on the west coast. Kings fans will be watching every game in the finals start at 5:00 p.m.

Why does that suck? You get off work, go to the pub with your friends, watch the game...

I prefer that to staying up until after midnight watching OT games and having to get up early for work in the morning.

Because a lot of people don't get off work until 5 p.m. or later and then have to drive home/elsewhere to see the game, missing part of it.

Even on the weekend I like having games start early afternoon (1:00) or in the evening (7:00) so I don't have a 3 hour chunk of time splitting my day in half.

Ya, if you work that late, I'd agree.

Lately all the weekday games here (Mountain time) have been starting at 6 or 7. Perfect times as far as I'm concerned.

That's what I like (7:00). I finish work, eat dinner and get right into the game.

Lel. I think Smith has some severe anger issues. More than a few times he's looked like he's going to chop someone's head off on the ice.

That was the biggest bullshit of a game I have watched in a very, very long time. NJ somehow managed to win against the Rangers (they legitimately pretty dominated this game), Toronto, and the refs all at once.... I don't know how, but I'll take it.

As far as the timezones go, MST is the best for sports. 5:30PM eastern starts, and 8:30PM. Just late enough to get home from work, and not too late to make you feel like crap waking up the next morning.

On the second goal, I thought it was a no goal too... there was definitely a distinct kicking motion (doesn't matter if he does it to stop). But then during the intermission they showed a replay that I hadn't seen, and it looked like it went of Callahan's shin, not his skate. The rule doesn't specify body parts, but I don't think I've ever seen a goal disallowed for going off a shin. So I think that call was alright.

Man, I honestly didn't think the Devils had a good chance of winning once the Rangers tied it up. The Rangers had the momentum and were really dominating at that point. And then... Ryan Carter. And Stephen Gionta! I love that guy.

What a game. I had to walk around the block to calm down afterward.

Edit: Trapezoid sucks

Not sure he actually had a kicking motion per se, but it could have went either way on that goal.

Just a stupidly sloppy game (defensemen for both teams out of place that resulted in goals) that NJ is lucky to come away with after blowing such a lead. WTF was Brodeur thinking on that one goal (getting caught out of net looking like a pure rookie)? Even funnier was Richards shooting on Lundqvist?? Lundqvist really looked flat last night, and he stopped much better chances in the Washington series, even off chip in's (like the Gionta goal). Maybe he's got some burnout but that was one shit-tacular game.

Yeah, if you could give anyone mvp last night it'd be gionta, he was all over the place passing and outworking everyone.

You do realize that nobody would have given a shit about such a wimpy hit in the 70's, 80's, 90's, or even the early 00's? Ok I'll give you that it was technically illegal, but it was extremely weak (or Volchenkov is just a flat out pussy) and it sure looked like a dive to me. Forearm to helmet shouldn't be causing anyone an injury unless you're a concussion prone pussy. If that's the case, then they shouldn't even be on the ice.

It'll be better once Messier gets his new super impact absorption helmets in production, then we'll really see who the divers are.

The trapazoid rule was designed to hurt him and it sure worked on that play.

Oh Christ. Flying elbows and forearms have been illegal and dirty as long as the game has been played.

Brodeur should know better, the standard response is to blame the 'zoid and not blame the idiot who forgot it's 2012.

You probably haven't watched much hockey if you think anyone would be penalized for this in past decades. While I admit it's technically illegal, it was a total dive on Volchenkov's part. This is unacceptable. Also considering the fact that Prust has never been suspended or fined in 5 years in the NHL, he obviously didn't hit him with much force. It was a glancing elbow to the helmet for Christ's sake.

Some of the comments agree with me as well:
<<@NJDEVILS1214 Ive been elbowed in the head numerous times in hockey, trust me, it doesnt hurt. Thats a total act by the devils just to get a player suspended. Pathetic. Probably did this to get giroux suspended too. The devils are honestly the biggest babies in hockey next to the penguins, starting with their head coach who probably tells them to fake injuries. I swear this sport is turning into soccer. Not to mention how volchenkoc ended up coming back for the entire game, what a fucking surprise.>>

<<Anyone who's played hockey and taken a hit to the back of the helmet like this one... knows it's not a big deal. Total Dive and embellishment. ...>>

<<I love how Volchenkof regains his balance and then falls foward when he realizes he should dive. Total dive.>>

<<this is a clear elbow to the head, and could very easily warrant a suspension, that said, with a helmet on and the relatively weak power of the elbow, it was also a dive.>>

Planning my vacation to SoCal from June 9th to the 16th. Only dates available for me to skip work. Hopefully, I'll be down there to see who wins the Cup...

Oh hey look, I can post YT videos too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPbN72u4hxs

Another glancing blow to the helmet. Robinson must've told Niedermayer to fake a concussion for the rest of the playoffs.

I normally don't wish injury on players, but for guys like Cooke and Prust, I wouldn't mind it one bit if someone ran them and tore up their knee and ended their career. It just might extend the careers of some honest players that don't skate around delivering flying elbows.

Honestly, you sound so butthurt it's pathetic. You post a long article all about Tortarella's whining and sum it up saying 'cry moar deboer', you criticize Brodeur for being victimized by an asinine rule, and the best example you can provide of the Devils diving is Volchenkov falling after getting elbowed in the back of the head.

We get it, you don't like the Devils; we all have teams we don't like. My advice, take it or leave it, is to get yourself a little less emotionally invested in their fate.

I agree re: Cooke, but Prust has never been reviewed by the league before so who gives a dam? It was a wimpy elbow, plain and simple. Ever watch the Broad Street Bullies play? They are laughing at you right now for saying stupid shit like the elbow is "dirty for as long as the game has been played". Then you follow it up by suggesting that someone should end a first time offender like Prust's career by taking out his legs. You're all over the place buddy.

Brodeur is a victim now? lmao, Brodeur isn't a victim but a moron for coming out too far. He's too experienced to pull a rookie mistake. But keep crying about the trapezoid like every other fan, if you don't like it don't watch the game. It's that simple. Or sign up for NHL Vault and relive the classics.

When you keep calling it a rookie mistake it sounds like you think bad decision-making was what led to the goal. His decision to come out to play the puck was fine, he does the same thing all the time, and he had plenty of time to get rid of the puck. The problem was the puck was bouncing and he misplayed it. That's not a "rookie mistake."

It's not like he did something really stupid like trying to pass the puck to his defenseman through a forechecker who was directly in front of him.

As often as Brodeur's puck-handling skills help the Devils, I can live with the few that don't work out well.

He got caught in no man's land and wasn't in a great position to block off the right side (if he stayed in goal), as more traditional goaltenders would have done. And agree, the puck mishandling was pretty bad.

Also, this talk that I hate NJ is slightly lulz. I don't like either NY or NJ, but reserve all of my hate for Pitt.

If you think those 2 elbows are anything alike your a moron.

ok, so maybe they should amend the rule to read that a player shall not deliver a check with his elbow unless butthurt Flyers fans determine that such check was not sufficiently violent as to cause injury, based on their review of a youtube video.

Yeah, that rule would be about as legitimate as the trapazoid rule anyway.

You flyer fans are the biggest cry babies. It was a hit to the head with an elbow deal with it. You can't have players doing that kind of stuff not matter how hard of soft you think the hit was. Goon style of hockey is being fazed out and if you don't like it then hockey is not the sport for you.

Im not crying about anything, those two elbows are nothing alike. Players make adjustments , the vid looks like Prust was at least wanting to make contact got to high up, Volchenkov made a cut at the end and Prust wasn't expecting it so he put the arm up and caught him with a elbow. The Tie Domi elbow is full on in the face, intentional, no where near the play. Your acting as if I'm attacking you, and your team, im talking about the elbows not that they both had the devils involved. For the record Tie Domi is shit.

Jeff ,Yea your team should have you as a coach mybe they would have got outa the 1st round, but they played goon hockey.
