Bring on Montreal.
obviously I couldn't be happier for Edmonton in this situation... Conklin goes down and things start to look bleak, and a rookie tender comes through. this is huge.NEW YORK/TORONTO -- Ottawa Senators center Jason Spezza, who led all scorers with eight points (four goals, four assists) in three games, has been named the NHL's Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 27. Edmonton goaltender Mike Morrison, who backstopped the Oilers to three consecutive victories, two by shootout, and recorded a 1.58 goals-against average and .933 save percentage, is the League's Defensive Player of the Week.
Atlanta Thrashers left wing Ilya Kovalchuk, who posted seven points (3-4--7 in four games), Los Angeles Kings left wing Alexander Frolov (2-5--7 in three games) and New Jersey Devils right wing Viktor Kozlov (1-5--6 in two games) were runners-up for offensive honors, while goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (3-1-0, 1.51 GAA), goaltender Martin Biron of the Buffalo Sabres (3-0-0, 1.95 GAA) and defenseman Mathieu Schneider of the Detroit Red Wings (3-2--5 in three games) were runners-up for the defensive award.
Spezza opened the week by scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in a 5-3 victory at Carolina Tuesday. He tallied one goal and one assist in a 6-2 victory at the New York Islanders Friday and notched his second four-point game of the season (two goals, two assists) in a 4-2 victory against the Boston Bruins Saturday.
Spezza, 22, is tied for the League scoring lead with 39 points (10 goals, 29 assists) in 21 games. The second overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft has an active six-game point streak and has recorded a point in 19 of 21 contests this season. The Senators (18-3-0, 36 points) have won five consecutive games, are 10-1-0 in their past 11 and rank first in the NHL's overall standings.
Morrison began the week turning aside 21 shots in a 2-1 shootout victory against the San Jose Sharks Monday. He stopped 25 shots in a 4-3 victory at Minnesota Wednesday and made 27 saves in a 2-1 shootout victory at Calgary Friday. Morrison blocked six of seven shootout attempts, including a four-for-four performance against the Flames.
Recalled from the Oilers' ECHL affiliate in Greenville, S.C. on Oct. 24, Morrison made his NHL debut in a relief role Nov. 7 at Dallas and made his first start Nov. 14 at Colorado. Selected in the seventh round, 186th overall, in the 1998 Entry Draft, the 26-year-old Medford, Mass. native and former University of Maine standout is 4-0-0 with a 1.38 goals-against average and .944 save percentage in six NHL games this season.
his stickhandling is ridiculous. his hands are almost phantom-like, i swear he puts D to sleep... it's like crazy tai-chi on ice or something. his speed is also very deceptive because he's such a smooth skater. ok. i'm done singing his praises for now i can't believe he is tied with Jagr for the scoring lead now!! imagine him leading the AHL and NHL in scoring in consecutive years?!Originally posted by: rh71
Spezza has that ridiculous reach and soft hands... I first noticed him in the Youngstars Game a couple years back I think it was. He didn't do anything special in that one, but you sure could tell he'll amount to someone one day.
hang in there. i heard TkaPorkchop scored his first of the seasonOriginally posted by: tanz

1) Did you notice Spezza (and Ottawa) has played 5 fewer games than Jagr ?! And he's still tied. Then again, Jagr has only Nylander and Straka (both mediocre talent) to help him while Spezza's got bonafide superstars.Originally posted by: meltdown75

THAT WOULD BE SICK!!!!!!!!11!11

edit: LOL i guess ridiculous is the word of the night

not so fast... the playoffs used to be about grinding it out / playing in seaweed with all the grabbing, etc. We'll see how the new rules affect that. If you're in the playoffs, I'm not so sure you want to be giving your opponent 10 PP chances. Especially Ottawa's PP.Originally posted by: SampSon
My Sabres are looking good lately.
Ottawa will be great until the playoffs, where they will undoubtedly choke. They are already written off in my book.
Ottawa will choke in the playoffs, no matter what the new rules are.Originally posted by: rh71
