Here is what I'm talking about.

680i SP 1M: 14.094 secs
975X SP 1M: 14.140 secs

680i SP Dual 32M: >19 mins !?
975X SP Dual 32M: <16 mins

Memory is set to 800MHz/3-3-3-8-2T, except for 1M calculation on 680i where I was able to do 1T. Note the speedy calculation under 1T irrespective of slightly lower base CPU frequency. (3600 vs 3604) But as the calculation length gets longer, the gap widens to the extent of disaster. :disgust:

I'm not paying too attention on it however because every other test looks pretty normal. And from the looks of it I'm not the only one having this issue, so hopefully NV will fix it sooner than later. Games run fantastic and 3DMark scores are top notch. Ran 3DMark05 with a 8800 GTX @650/100 and it scored a hair short of 20K.

P.S. Hey Gary, what memory are you using on this board?

I was going to use some Corsair DDR2 800mhz PC2-6400 memory with this motherboard, but can afford the Corsair DDR2 1066mhz PC2-8500, is this faster memory still compatible with the motherboard as its 1066mhz not 800mhz ?

You can run everything from DDR2-400 to DDR2-1333 (saw working samples yesterday). This chipset requires DDR2-800 (capable) or above for optimal performance.

I am so glad to see this thread here.
I am getting ready to spec out my next build and I think the Striker Extreme is it. I intend to OC only slightly to moderatly. The main reason I plan on using the S-E is the solid capacitors. The combination of RoHS and cheapie electrolytic caps is reducing reliability and the solid caps will give some back.
A few questions,
1. If I am not going to OC heavily should I still liquid cool? (I am thinking of using the Tt Armor case with the 250 MM fan if I do not liquid cool)
2. Kentsfeild or C2D-Ex? ( I can wait a month)
3. What memory would you use with this board and CPU?

My use is extreme multitasking, lots of data basses and word doccuments and spread sheets as well as Publisher and Photoshop open over 2 24" monitors. Yes I do game but only 20% of my useage is gaming and I play RPG or Strat games not shooters. I do want the best possiable graphics quality.
Because of my need for multiple Apps over two or more monitors is SLI a waste of money for me? BTW, cost for this rig is not a factor but cost for things I will not use makes no sense.

I saw the P5N32-E in action today at Asus, we have a retail sample that will be reviewed shorly (after I get the P965 roundup finished next week. Consider this board to be the Striker without all of the extras. Also, MSRP is $249.

How?
Like Gary says, it's probably either me or the X-Fi. I don't exactly know what happend. While clocking memory I had this wonderful thought that I might be able to get better results with PCI video card. So I took out the X-Fi and GTX, then installed the GeForce 6200 PCI. Well, it didn't really do much so I pulled the 6200 and re-installed the X-Fi, then Bam! The board doesn't boot. Turned out my X-Fi is dead. The PCI slot is fine, though - I checked with my old SB Live! card. Pisses me off (It was physically installed only once) but it's less than 1 month old, so I'm going to RMA it.

Come to think of it, I really hated (and still do) to give any of my money to Creative, but there just doesn't seem to be any other choice when it comes to gaming sound card. Any recommendation?

Below is my current memory configuration.

tCL (CAS) 3T
tRCD 3T
tRP 3T
tRAS 8T
Command Per Clock (CMD) 2T

tRRD 2T
tRC 16T
tWR 3T
tWTR 5T
tREF Auto

800MHz/2.2V

P.S. DanBaer, Neal is a water-cooling expert so he should be able to answer you. I'd think your usage pattern actually warrants the high price tag of Kentsfield.

Edit: I have a good news and a bad news.

Good news: I was stubborn and wouldn't give up CL3, but just for the hell of it I decided to give a shot to CL4. (Other miscellaneous timings were subsequently adjusted) Tada.. 1T works stably @800MHz.
Bad news: Performance isn't much different from 2T/CL3. :disgust:

But it is still an improvement over 2T/CL3 and gives hope that things will get better with BIOS revisions. Overall this board is 10 times more sensitive to memory performance and I'm saying it in a positive sense, because unlike Intel chipsets where different memory does almost nothing, performance on this board will actually response to memory configuration.

Question: I am having extreme popping/cracking sound issues w my evga 680i. It's TERRIBLE with the X-fi, you cannot game on it at all. help?

Answer: I had that EXACT same problem with my ab9. Google a tool called pci latency tool. Change latency to 96 should fix problem. That said i have not had ANY problems in games with my xfi and 680i and have not had to change the pci latency.

Question: WOW! Thank you for the pci latency tool. Which part do I change the latency of though? I see many PCI items like Pci Bridge, PCI ram controller, etc.

Answer: The one that says creative xfi audio processor. For the record i noticed no sound quality loss by doing this.

Result: I want to kiss the guy who said download PCI Latency Tool. I can actually play games now!!!!

That conversation was from http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1119603

Hmm.. Um? Interesting. So maybe my X-Fi isn't dead? Would it be possible that the 6200 PCI has changed something in the BIOS while installed? I will double-check and report it back.

Are all the Asus Strikers that are for sale Preorders? Or can you actually buy them now. Only reason I ask is that Zipzoomfly still has them as a preorder, while others don't mention it at all.

*edit* Nvm. They are still on Preorder status.

Looks alot like it seperate from the PCB and then slid up. I would take it back to where you bought it or call XFI.

Been doing some snooping around and seems that the release was from today on. So retailers should be getting the product by next week. Allstarshop told me Nov. 17th although no guarantees. ExcaliberPC has it listed between the 15th and the 22nd. So at least I have a general timeframe now.
