I found a small, but exploitable bug...

Suppose you have 2 of the exact same magic weapon (Daedric Bow of the Inferno, for example). Keep one fully repaired and charged in a storage container in your house, use the other one to kill stuff. When you return home after some adventuring, repair the one you were using (take it to an NPC if you're not a Journeyman of Repair), then put it into the storage container with the other one.

Now look in the container, you will see 2 Daedric Bows of the Inferno... fully charged

Slick! It gets old paying 2700 gold to recharge my bow after every dungeon trip. Are there any other ways to get it recharged?

I recharge my bows using soul gems or Azura's star. I enchant my bows to do a 3 second soul trap along with all the other damage.

Martin took Azura's star from me... But I couldn't use it anyway, it didn't do anything. I don't do any magic at all, so I don't know about soul gems and I don't think I can use them.

Ahh what a shame I made sure to give him the crappy Mace of Molag Bal. There are some soul trapping weapons scattered throughout the world, just have some Soul Gems in your inventory and be sure that Soul Trap is active on the monster when you kill it.

*spoiler below*

If you want a soul trapper which is also a damn good sword then go get the sword Umbra, you have to fight the warrior Umbra for it. She lives in the Ayleid ruin Vindasel which is across the lake from the Imperial City Waterfront. She's VERY tough, but there's a cheesy way to waste her. As you're cruising the walkway that goes around the periphery of her chamber, you'll see a spot where the railing has crumbled, and there's a place there where you can perch and safely pelt her with spells or arrows. If you haven't yet activated the shrine of Clavicus Vile quest when you do this, her death will count as a murder, and if you haven't gotten an invitation to the Dark Brotherhood yet, you'll get one along with the swanky sword. Also, as long as you never complete the Clavicus Vile quest, the sword will remain an undroppable (but weightless) quest item.

Yikes, that sucks you don't do any magic at all. You'll need to kill Umbra and get her sword then... that'll help capture souls. Also, i'm sure you're picking up a lot of soulgems with souls already in them, they can recharge too. Varla Stones does as well i believe.

Too bad you gave up the Azura Star though... with Umbra's sword, you would have had unlimited charging capability.

I just decided magic weapons were a waste of time and money since it cost so much to use them. I always end up finding the next level of non-magic weapon that does more damage anyway. I've been using a legendary bow for a while now, it does 26 damage before modifiers\arrows. I've considered enchanting it with one of my sigil stones. Generally I just use the sigil stones on loot to make it more valuable for me to sell.

Use Soul Gems . . . i have so many, i am selling them regularly. You can find them especially in the Ancient Ruins. And if you have Azura's Star, it is essentially a refillable unbreakable giant Soul Gem . . . use a Soul Trap spell or weapon to fill it.

if you gave up Azura's Star, then use regular Soul Gems . . . i you kept Azura's Star, get RID of (most of) the rest of your Soul Gems . . . so IT gets filled].

btw, ANY of the Daedric goodies will work for Martin [it isn't clear from the StoryLine] . . . not just the Star.

And the Skeleton Key is a Hoot . . . you never need a lockpick again - it breaks and then replaces itself . . . just hit "auto" over-and-over . . .
[if you need lockpicks until then, Dead goblins and bandits are a good source].

Magic Weapons are Great . . .

and i'm Level 15 . . . 185 hours . . . 29 Oblivion Gates shut . . . 4 horses [White is my favourite, so far] and 2 houses . . . and still kicking Enemy Ass . . . i have well over 100,000 Gold [and chests full of Armour and stuff i haven't got around to sell yet], so money is no problem.

i guess i will kill an "innocent" to join the Dark Brotherhood. i got a Quest from one one of the Shrines that requires it. These Shrine Quests are getting Darker and Darker . . . i had to do an 'end of the world' scenario to terrify a town - just for a joke.
Damn . . . my map is getting filled . . . i have started to organize quests by Area just to save time now . . . lots unfinished . . . then they get finished all at once.

The shrine quests are carebear in comparison to the Dark Brotherhood. Enjoy!

I stumbled upon some Rune rocks/stones that had strange writing on them. When I clicked on the stone, a sword and armor were bound to me. Anyone know what this affects or just what the deal is with these runes?

Another question, are there any potions, elixers, etc that can permanently raise attributes/skills?

Most of the time i didn't bother with charging them... only if i knew the fight was going to be big, then i would charge it and rush into battle.

Those runes basically just cast Bound [Helment/Cuirass/Sword/etc] on you for a certain amount of time. It usually lasts for a couple minutes for me. The Bound spells just summon a powerful weapon or piece of armor for you to use for a while. I never use them because I enchant my own armor with specific effect magic that I want.

Noob question...

I am tired of FPSs but have never really played an RPG other than FFX.

I hate time sucks, I prefer to game about 4-5 hours a week.

Will Oblivion be enjoyable given this limited amount of time I have to play?

4-5 hours a week is definitely doable, but the game is fun enough that you'll have a hard time sticking with just 5 hours of gameplay a week. The regular quests in Oblivion usually take less than 30 minutes each to complete (retrieve an item from a cave, defeat this bad guy, etc). Some of the later quests can take a while, but they are broken into multiple sub-quests. You're also allowed to save anywhere in the game, so you can stop at any time.

If you can have an hour block of time then that's fine. Most of the longer parts can take up to an hour, a lot of stuff can be done in less than 30mins. The thing is that there's a ton of things to do, so it adds up to a couple hundred hours or more...

it will be enjoyable - if you have the willpower
[/fortify willpower]

a "few minutes" has turned into an "all nighter" - several times.

just make sure you have at least an hour at a time
[and plenty of caffeine for the next day]

BTW, if you are experience odd instability in your PC system - DISABLE your PC's Health-monitoring SW!!!!
[Hardware Doc made Oblivion Unstable for my system - odd random crashes - NOW there are NO MORE crashes]

Gah. Is Hatred's Soul the only legendary bow in the game? It's nice, but its charges are expensive as hell... 15 shots and it's out of power! I think I might be better off using my 30 damage health sigil stone on a plain Daedric Bow, until I complete the Mages Guild recommendations. Is it possible to enchant arrows at all?

BTW - Expert level Marksmanship is teh pwn... knocking Daedroths and Valkynaz down on their @sses is great stuff. That perk was worth the wait

Yup, knock'em down, run up to them and shoot arrows point blank into their face or pull out the sword and thrash their fallen bodies to raise your blade skills...I find it funny everytime...its too bad that once you get to Master, the paralyze effect RARELY happens

look at my stats . . .
. . . 200 hours:

20 Active Quests
90 Completed
208 places found
32 Oblivion Gates Shut
5 artifacts found

How BIG is this game?
:Q

i would guess that i am only 2/3rd done

ANd the Dark BrotherHood Quests are *Gross* . . . but the rewards are . . . priceless in skill increases and and . . . Shadowmere
[you'll want Shadowmare . . . forget horse armour . . . you'll see]

i am Expert in 2 major skills [athletics and blade] and expert in Security [and awesome in Sneak with 65% Chameleon Gear+Chameleon/invisibility spells] . . . i just got Journeyman in Armourer which i really wanted - repairing those Magic Weapons on-the-fly sure is helpful] . . . and mowing down Multiple [big] enemies at a time [great Armour and Weapons are popping up everywhere]

in fact, i got tired of sneaking and stormed a Castle Guard room to Assasinate Someone in the Retirement Protection Programme . . . they attacked me all at once and i left a PILE of Guard bodies so HIGH that i couldn't loot em all.

btw, anyone know where i can get advanced training in Destruction?
[overhearing a conversation lead me to advanced Athletic Training]

I dont often see Software threads hit 1000.

Anyway, I did a custom class with skills that get used often so I could level fast. In the first run I used a knight and beat it at level 13. As well as almost all the side quests.
Now with the custom guy I'm at level 17 and have only completed half of the mages quests.

Alchemy is so damn easy to raise when its a primary.
