Morrowind is a VERY different game. Including how skills and combat work. It also takes place in a different part of the world, so i doubt there'll be any spoilers in Oblivion that would ruin the game for you.

But graphics are much worst, if that's important to you (is for me). And i find the skills and combat in Oblivion 100% better than in Morrowind.

Just be aware that azura can't capture human souls... you'll need a black soul gem for that. But it captures pretty much anything else, including demons iirc

So what are your guys' game breakers?

Ive got the following:

Mage's staff of Paralysis: paralyze for 8 sec on target
By the time they can move again, theyre sliced to pieces

Lightning Sword:
Ebony Longsword with a 25 shock damage enchantment

Lightning Bow
Ebony Bow with a 37 shock damage on target (I can only fire it 20 times before it needs a recharge though). Combine it with Arrows of the dynamo+poison+sneak, and I can bring down almost anything in one hit.

I've created a spell that literally kills any humanoids/some monsters with only one hit (gaurds are different story, but they still die  )

20 + pts for 4 secs on fire/ice/lightning damage within 15 ft , 100% weakness to fire/ice/lightning for 4 secs within 15 ft =P on target

the *only* genuine gamebreaker is "Chameleon" over 100%.

Even the Mace of Hatred and the Bow of Embers - that is found in a SECRET leaning Tower in Oblivion (look 180 degrees behind the gate) - are not genuine game breakers although they are the most powerful weapons . . . they require Massive Soul Charges.

BTW, in that same SECRET oblivion CAVE - past where you find the Entrance to the Tower of the Bow and Mace - at the cave's lowest point ] you can go LAVA -DIVING [QUICKAVE first - the Fleshy iPod is on solid rock out of Lava at the end of the cave - IF you can jump out - my agility is fortified to 200 - or use paintbrushes to climb out] for more awesome random gear.

565+ hours into oblivion . . .
:Q

. . . picking up HL2/Ep1 at CC today for $7.99 . . .
[so i AM getting "help"]

I'm amazed this thread has gotten this long. I played this game for about 8 hours, did the first few quests, went into the gate, killed someone, saved someone, and went back to town. Seems like the fun I had inside the gate ran out on me and haven't really touched the game since. I take it there is a lot more to this game than just following this quest line from the get go? Seems like that is what is suppose to drive you forward through the game, going here, talking to someone, going there, etc.

that's 'cause the Mod locks every other oblivion thread.

and there is LOTs more . . . i have 565 hours into the game . . . i guess you need "direction" in creating your Character . . . 8 hours hasn't "scratched the surface" of Oblivion.

Sheik Yerbouti, to trap a soul you need a Soul-trap spell or weapon and an EMPTY soul gem [or Azura's Star] . . . you don't need to be magic oriented at all.

Interesting. I was playing as a thief, and got bored because when I pick pocketed, there wasn't much value from the NPCS. Also the theif had a hard time lasting in ANY combat in the game.

Computer is the best way to play this game, say over on an XBOX 360?

Sorry to be a pain in the butt, but I do have several soul gems, common and petty, and a magic weapon (that's out of charges), how do you trap the soul? Also, I am a journeyman armorer and I cannot repair magic items, however, when I try to it says I need to be a journeyman to do it, I am, and I'm wondering what gives. Thanks again.

Is there any way to bind weapon special attacks to a key?

Having difficulty preforming the side/back weapon swings with my 2 handed blunt. With high speed I usually wind up missing the target when pressing movement buttons with the swing.

to trap a soul, cast your soul-trap spell [or hit it with a soul trap weapon] and kill it before the spell ends . . . you get the message "You have captured a soul" if successful. Then access your inventory to "use" th newly filled gem.

you *must* have an Empty Soul Gem of the approprite size to capture a soul [e.g. a 'petty' soul gem will only hold a small soul of a rat or a mudcrab . . . a Grand holds a Daedra Spider's, etc. . . . Use CARE as a Grand Sould gem is wasted by capturing a 'petty' soul' in it as it cannot be Reused]

. . . only Black Soul Gems [which you create at special alters at certain times out of Empty Grand Soul Gems] can trap humanoid souls, btw.

edited again and again

Only level 18 atm, and my preferred weapons are:

-Mage's staff -Paralysis 6 sec

-My custom built shocksword - 17 pt elven longsword + 30 pts shock damage. (brings down a lot of heavies with two quick 8x sneak attacks. My sneak is pretty high, so no problems there) . Once the shock sent a daedroth flying up into the air...lol.

-My enhanced elven armor+ shield, which fortifies strength (8+8+8+8) + 9 blade.

-Umbra (which is at 30 pts damage with my fortified armor and amulet/rings)

-gray cowl. Invaluable for feathering, and locating enemies in dungeons and ayleid ruins. Can plan an attack much better that way.

Occasionally, I bring out the Akavari Sunderblade, if confronted by multiple thugs with heavy armor. With 100pts disintegrate armor + 100 pts disintegrate weapons, it is awesome for disarming marauders and armored daedra, but has only 16 strikes for a 3000 charge. The coup de grace is then administered with the shocksword.

I have a pretty decent customized bow which has a soultrap on it + health damage + weakness to magic. With sniper gauntlets and elven arrows (9pt damage) or arrows of fire, it can do some serious damage, but i rarely use it except inside an oblivion gate. The sweet sound of my shocksword going 'thwack' on a daedroth or Kynreeve is much more satisfying.

BTW, does the Sanguine Rose have any actual use in combat? I have it, but have never tried it out after the Leyawiin quest.

The Sanguine Rose that I have shoots a magic orb at the enemy you are aiming at , and summons a clanfear. Which can be handy if you are running short of magic.

I bought Oblivion for the 360 yesterday, and man, is performance pretty sh1tty. There are some fps dips now and then, but my main problem is loading as i'm running. For example, the run from the city to where Umbra is, i was loading like every 5-10 steps, and the loading was taking on average 10 secs to load. On my laptop, if it was loading, it was a split second at the most. I can't imagine what this game would have been like if i had the core version without the HDD.

Anyways, does anybody know where i can get the summon skeleton spell?

let me clear a few things up:

The Sanguine Rose summons a random daedra, Wabbajak transforms a creature into another random creature and the Skull of Corruption creates a clone of whatever you attack with the staff.

the xbox360 version is INferior to the PC version

and you get can try buying a "summon" spell . . . the Spell-place in Market Place?

Mehrunes' Razor - DLC9 - * Available June 15
Features:

* A fully-featured quest takes you deep into the fringes of the Niben.

* Earn the fearsome Mehrunes Razor, with the ability to kill foes instantly.

* 17 new magic items to discover!

* Conquer the largest dungeon in all Cyrodiil.

* Thwart a plot to overthrow Imperial rule in Tamriel.

* 12 new books, notes, and journals to help you unravel the mystery.

* Hidden treasures await!

$2.99 . . .not too bad - we need a REAL ex pak! . . .
. . . at least i don't feel bad that i paid $7.99 for HL2 -Ep1 [that's about what it's really worth. . . . still available at CC]

Well, i wanted to play using the controller (combat is much more fun), and i wanted the achievement points for the 360.

As for the summon spell, that's what i'm trying to find out... who sells it. The dude in the main city only sells scamp, and that requires a skill of 25. I know it's one of the mages guild, but i don't recall which city sold conjuration.

I haven't found the Sanguine Rose to be too helpful but I don't go on any quest without my Wabbajak and Skull of Corruption. I used the Skull to have Mannimarco defeat himself.

maybe try all the mages guilds . . . it's worth it [but then i like to do *everything*].

IF you are a member you can make your own
[best choice]

and 'Summon Lich' is my favouite for fighting a group of enemies . . .
even 'Summon Scamp' is a neat 'distraction'.

Search the Oblivion Forums if you want to save time.

EDIT: although i am ArchMage . . . i don't use any staff

love the Blunt . . .
[almost master]

EDIT: What are "achievement points" for the 360?

I see, so I think the sanguine rose had better stay where it is right now..locked up nicely in my arch mage's chamber!

Mannimarco was a bit of letdown...I expected an epic battle, but was able to take him down easily (level 15 or so). At the end, he ended up in his underwear, ass down in the large flame-holder, completely stripped of all his belongings.

I just bought that... the places I've been at recently are Bruma, Skingrad, and Chorrl (sp?). I'm almost positive it wasn't at Bruma and I'd try Skingrad first.

That's odd, because mine never has huge load times like that. Have you tried clearing the cache (hold down "A" from system startup until the Bethesda logo comes up)?
