I cannot get Unfriendly Competition quest to complete. I have the book and the shovel. It was listed as my active quest. And I waited for the shops to open to talk to Thoronir and then onto Jensine's shop.

I started a new game after installing the finial patch, since I had several quest I could not start or finish. This quest was one in the first game I could on finish before the patch. I also could not finish the Mage Guild quest in Leyawiin in my first game or start the Mages quest in Bravil.

Any suggestions?

if it is the 'common problem' then . . .

yes . . . move closer than you think is necessary for Thoronir to start his conversation with his 'contact' . . . and make sure you are not chameleoned or in sneak .

If you are having problems . . . especially those that require the construction set to fix - post in the Official Oblivion Forums [after 'searching' of course] in both 'spoilers' and 'construction' forums.

I have finished with Thoronir and he gave me a ring. The problem I am having is with finishing off the quest is with Jensine and in here shop. She is all happy about Thoronir giving up the stolen loot but will not take the shovel and the book off my hands. I also cannot drop the items or hit her over the head with them. :|

I have also posted this on the oblivion form.

Edit: Fond the problem...I had to scroll down in the conversation topics to get it to finish. That my be the key to the other Problems I was having.

it is one of the MOST common "issues"

and i FIXED the Master Marksman training with a few simple console commands [evidently Alawin "Dies" if you fast travel to Troll Candle Camp . . . a minor but irritating bug"]

. . . and *Damn* was Alawin a B!tch when i resurrected her . . . she 'snapped' at me and for a moment i thought she was gonna attack me!

Ha! I havent *touched* Oblivion for the past 3 or 4 days. I am going through SEVERE withdrawal symptons right now.

Simply way too much work at school/lab, so forget gaming...I have been getting barely get 5 hours of sleep a night for the last 5 nights.

Once my June 23 deadline is done, its back to Cracklivion.

So THAT'S what happened to her! I went back once and I couldn't find her anywhere! I ran around the area for an entire in-game day casting with Detect Life to find her again. Oh well, I've maxed out my marksmanship on my own without her.

How do you bring her back to life?

since you asked . . . you can still *Finish the Quest* even if your marksman is 100 . . .

Alawin has probably died when you fast traveled to her camp.

Do this

Open the console "~" and type [without quotes]

"PRID 0003C160"

and then

"resurrect"

and then

"moveto player 20"

you will be next to her

FInally, start the quest. Type:

"setstage trainingmarksman 10"

a popup appears and you go from there to get her to agree to train you

damn simple

My game PC isn't connected to the internet so if they did install a rootkit I should still be fine. I'll just restore an image if I need to.

If it's found to be true, Bethesda is in for some serious troubles from the industry. Just ask Sony.

Well, I've done my own Rootkit Revealer sweeps and I *do* have a pair of registry entries with embedded nulls - plus the folder in \system32 - and I did download the Razor plugin. Date stamps, etc. are consistent with the installation of the plugin. The folder isn't trying to hide itself *that* hard - i can access it - it's just in an odd place.

What I can see doesn't look like anything attempting to alter OS behavior, just a little smoke and mirrors in the registry, presumably to hide an activation key. Still, I don't like my registry being fiddled with in such ways. At this time I'm *not* suspecting that there's anything beyond what's been found related to the plugins, but I'll be following the discussion. And official word from Bethesda would be appreciated.

also, i hit level 13 last night, but have only ran into 1 oblivion gate - at Kvatch back when i was level 4 or so.

is that normal? early on, i did fast travel, but i've made it a point not to do so unnecessarily because i might miss out on the gates.

Sounds like you've barely scratched the surface of the MQ. I suggest doing the first few quests of the MQ, you'll eventually come across the mentioning of Kvatch. Complete everything that needs to be done at Kvatch and at your level (and depending on your difficulty), this can be insanely hard. I avoided the MQ until level 17 and barely survived Kvatch...quite a challenge, but find out for yourself. Afterwards, save the rest of the MQ for last and carry on with your exploring and side quests, you'll have a better experience that way...trust me.

My 1st character did Kvatch at lvl 30... Ouch

My current one did Kvatch at lvl 3... the "help" actually was. It's pretty stupid how enemies scale to your level, but allies don't.

In my current campaign, I took the MQ as far as getting Martin up to Cloud Ruler Temple, and then left it indefinitely to explore... This gave me a moderate # of Oblivion gates to close. I've hit every non-quest cave/fort/ruin/etc. from Anvil up to and along the road that leads from Chorrol to Imp City, and eastwards through the West Weald, then down through Bravil and Leyawiin, and back up to the banks of the Panther River. That's about 1/2 of Cyrodiil, and my character is level 40 now, 172 actual hours of play.

Starting to get a little burned out, to tell the truth... I spent about 280 hours on my 1st char... though the current one is much more 'optimal'. But I didn't even play last night. Still, I'd have to say I've gotten my money's worth.

i am still hanging in there . . . i really do like my original Char . . . 625 hours . . . . Level 49 . . . ALL Skills *Maxed* - except for Merchantile/Marksman/Speechcraft [90s], Abilities are 100 except for Personality and Luck . . . and 5 million in Gold . . .

. . . i am making "Maxx' Junkyard" next . . . the biggest *pile* of loot in Cyrodiil . . . a "mountain" if possible.

All that is left is to max everything and then go to jail to lose Major Skills so i can level beyond 50 . . . and get Luck and Personality to 100.

About allies scaling, yep I believe you're right. After all, if your allies in Kvatch stayed lvl 3 or whatever, a daedroth would just bite their heads off :Q but it would be nice if they at least got weaponry upgrades to reflect their level - notice how they still run around with steel swords, etc. when you're high lvl... but not Bandits, of course...

I do have the Razor plugin (see my concerns with it further up) - but I haven't done anything with the quest yet - haven't made it to that part of the map, but almost... my current char is horribly systematic Lower half of the map - littered with markers. Top half - bare, except for a few necessary things like Cloud Ruler, and Azura's Shrine to obtain the Star.

She's saving all (well, most) of the quests for when she's seen the whole province and reached her level cap - 50, or 53 with Oghma - that is, if I have the stamina to keep up.

I think some of the best moments for me have been when I saw a city for the first time. Just how the city looms up over everything and finally entering it and seeing what's new. It's the first game to have that effect on me. For some reason I always get goosebumps when entering a gate to Oblivion, the place just freaks me out. I get scared too when I ride by a gate on the outside and see the sky turn blood red and the lightening and thunder start. Man this is a good game.
My Nord char is at Lvl 20 I think with some nice enchanted ebony armor, a custom made glass longsword with fire dmg, Umbra, Star of Azura, and a custom made shield called Gimili's Strength (after my favorite character in LoTR). THis is just an awesome game, I just wish I didn't have to work all the time

Can you simply drop an item out of your inventory without putting it in any kind of container? Basically, if you were just standing in the middle of a cave, with no chest or corpse around, wanted to get rid of a helmet, can you just drag and drop it from your inventory to the ground? Can you drop anything like that, just on the ground?
