Yeah, I know about Vampirism and the cure quest, etc - this doesn't appear to have anything to do with Vampirism. If this item had a use, I reckon I would have found more than one post relevant to it out of several pages of search results at elderscrolls.

It might be worth turning into a Vamp to see if it then does anything, but I'd be very surprised if it did If you hover over it while it's in inventory it lists no effects, and if you click on it in the inventory window, you just get the standard "you cannot equip this item".

Hehe here's an update of my character...she's lvl 30 now. Mastered Most of my minor skills and kicking arse on many enemies (especially humanoids) in one devastating magic attack . And btw..I found a sweet ring that gives 10 on all of the attributes. Also all of my stats are a 100 and 63 on luck . I'm pretty happy, although I might create a new character again just for the heck o fit.

it is definitely worth turning into a Vampire . . . Level 4 Fighting is almost primal . . . then take the cure , , , it gets irritating timing everything with daylight.

And am Level 48 . . . 103 Oblivion Gates closed [*ALL* of 'em, with about 40 respawners] . . . everything done . . . now i am gonna try getting thrown outta the Thieves and Mages Guild [i have only Minor Skills Marksman & Blunt to increase to find the Master trainers and am working on my LAST major skill - Block [i will finish at level 49].

. . . and i love getting the "message" every week that the Pirates have returned with my 'cut' . . . time to visit the Arena, DB Sanctuary, Arch Mages Chest . . . etc.

other than that the Pirate Plugin is pretty "Blah"

Need help please!
I know I am really behind in the game, but I am in the crypt with the guy who steals personal items off of corpses and sells them to the owner of the Copious Coinpurse. I'm trapped and this SOB has 2 fully plated guards with him, the doors locked and needs a key. I am getting beat down 7 ways from Sunday. Any way out of this? Brute force won't do it, I tried summoning a zombie and he helped a little but still I end up dying, if anyone can offer any help or advice I would really appreciate it, I think I am around level 5.

At level 5 that has got to be a tough battle. I don't know if you can win that , without cheating , unless you have a TON of potions.
Best bet is to go back to an earlier save file and come in to that area ready for combat.

Is all your gear "repaired"? . . . have you tried "sneak'? . . . "poison" a weapon? [poison your weapon repeatedly - access your inventory in the middle of a fight]
[along with the Zombie(s) - try using 'everything']

hint: always go for the strongest NPC first.

after the above - if you are really having difficulty, you are probably levelling your Major Skills too fast . . . move the "difficulty slider" to 'easier' 'till up catch-up - and work on those Minor Skills!

Thanks, not sure if I have any poison, in fact, I think I just sold all of it. D'OH!!!!! Everything's 100% repaired, just getting my butt handed to me. Always fun to see them sheathe their weapon and say... "well, that wasn't too hard"

Can't you just load the auto save game? I don't think he immediately sees you when you enter so you can turn around and leave.

As for fighting, I didn't find them to be too difficult, even with my Wood Elf Archer. I used up all of my healing potions in that fight though.

I had the same problem so I reload an earlier saved game and waited until I had an enchanted weapon. In this case I had a goblin staff and a magical sword. The encounter was easier with the staff than with the sword.

I bought a few houses but also tried storing excess inventory in containers in Fighter's and Mage's Guild houses in various cities. When I revisited said cities the inventories vanished at some and not at others. I think the stuff in chests vanished but cupboards didn't. Can you safely store excess inventory in Guild houses and does it matter which container you choose?

POISON a weapon??!?!?!?!?! i didn't know i could do that! i wondered what all those potions were for.

Tip (if you still need any for this quest):

After Thoronir and whats-his-name have the conversation in the back alley, and you have to tail him back to his house, sneak up on him and pickpocket his "Debaser" sword. (May as well swipe his housekey too while you're at it.) He'll be unarmed when you confront him in the crypt. You can then beat him up with his own sword, and/or fence it for a nice bit 'o gold

i just hit level 9 battlemage last night. i'm still weaaring the enchanted light armor that I was given by the dark brotherhood.

should i be looking for something else? I'd hate to switch to heavy armor, because it's so 'heavy'.

as far as magic weapons, i'm carrying:

• bow of numbing(5pts ice damage) and bow of jolts(5 points lightnig damage),

• goblem totem (lightning 20pts damage),

• Shadowhunt bow (7 points damage, -% to fatigue, -% magicka, turns undead, and a couple of other things),

• Sufferthorn dagger(-% to health),

• Witspltter dagger (-% to magicka), and

• some axe that captures souls(very handy).

do you think i need all those?

Does anybody know if/when the oblivion gates stop appearing?? Also, do they re-spawn? If you close all of them (40,50, 90 whatever) do they still keep re-appearing?

I'm trying to finish the primary quest ASAP so I get to all the other cool side quests.

when you complete the MQ . . . and you can LEAVE the MQ to do the sideqests [and return to it "whenever"]

and some of the Gates did respawn for me

finally, IF you still want to open oblivion gates after yu finish the MQ, get the recurring hell mini-mod

I'm level 27 and I haven't done a darned thing on the main quest!! I've not even seen an Oblivion Gate yet. And I'm still having fun trying to find better and better equipment for my BattleMage. I've been looting crypts like crazy and selling everything I can get my hands on. Which has gotten me quite a bit of loot. I'm to the point where I've bought a house in Bruma , and I've bought everything for the house. and then emptied all of the chest's and barrel's items and using them to store armor , and weapons , and gems , rings , scrolls .....everything! I don't even know how much money I have in items just sitting in "storage" But I've finally gotten into the Arcane University....so I'm practicing enchanting items to make some good equipment...any good ideas out there?
I've still not done the first mission yet for the dark brotherhood, I just now joined the fighters guild , and I'm still fighting in the arena..mostly just trying to explore every inch of the map , and uncover every cave/fort/crypt I can find...
I think I've been able to buy almost every single spell I've found.....there are a few out there still. And most I can't even use yet. That's the only reason I keep leveling up. The monsters get harder and harder , and keeps things interesting. I'm running into Ogre's , Undead Lich's. Skeleton champions....dread zombies ( I hate those )

Can anyone explain all the magic damage details?

What I already know
Frost Damage 20 pts for 10 seconds means 20 pts each second for 10 seconds for a total of 200 frost damage. The sneak attack weapon multipliers also multiply enchanted effects, which is very nice.

Invisibility keeps you invisible until you do something like open a door, ready your weapon for attack, talk to someone, etc. It doesn't seem to completely hide you from enemies after you attack. They follow your movement, but they don't attack and you can't really sneak.

Chameleon 100% will completely hide you, most of the time. I was able to attack Imperial Guards while standing in plain site. They ran because they couldn't find their attacker. They did not arrest me afterwards because they didn't know it was me. The undead seem to be able to see me though.

What I'm confused about
Drain Health 20 pts for 10 seconds? Does that only drain 20 points for 10 seconds? Drain also seems to be temporary? When I attack with a Drain spell at close range, I get a colored arch going between me and the enemy. It doesn't appear when I'm far away, so Drain is limited by range and line of site? What's the point of Drain Skill? Will I get a temporary boost to my skill?

Why does Silence sometimes fail? I fought a Necromancer who didn't have any special armor, but Silence seemed to fail on him.

Command Creature Level X or Dominiate Humanoid Level X. I'm level 34 right now. Does that mean that most enemies and humanoids are also level 34?

Advice to new players, don't do the daedric shrine quests until you are nearly done with the game, because some of the rewards put the game into "easy mode". Also avoid the mage guild line as long as possible because by the end of it you will likely have 250 strong healing and 250 strong sorcery potions which also make the game way too easy.

You can increase the difficulty slider to make it harder late in the game. It's kind of annoying though because it makes the enemies have so many hitpoints that it takes tediously long to kill them.

the more spells and stuff you have, it gets harder and harder because you have to use all of them, but it gets hard to keep track of and use.

Re: Enchanting weapons - my favorite enchanted weapons are the "cocktail of death" types that I made. For example, a bow that had health damage along with fire, frost and shock damage, plus 1 second of Soul Trap to keep Azura's Star full. This was a good all-around critter killer. Daedra (excluding Atronachs) have weakness to shock damage, so another weapon I made just for fighting Daedra had lots of shock damage plus weakness to shock for several seconds.
