As long as Anand publishes a quality review, I don't care that if it's the last one published.

That THG review was poorly organized. At first I thought they were using the opteron with an AGP card (I went directly to the test setup page), since it marked the R9700 as "common hardware". Then I saw it was using onboard graphics. Then some benchmarks have results from 1 x Opteron, and some don't. Ugh.

Very impressive.
Considdering there are several commercial apps in the server arena that will be available in x86-64 flavour, things can only get better.
Now let's hope some tier-1 OEM jumps on the opteron wagon as well.

Yep, same here...that was a joke directed at the previous people getting hot and btoehred about the time
Aces review looks like a beast, im going to have fun reading that - ive already picked out some welcome info about proper thermal protection

However, ive got an incredible amount of work to do today so im going to have to close the browsers and ration my opteron reviewage severely for now, ill hit the reviews in around 9 hours, assuming i dont lose my resolve and let the work slip (which i cant ! ).

Comparing the reviews at Aces and Toms, I can't help but notice how crappy Toms review is! Hell, his tests even had one of the Opterons memory-channels disabled!

Want to know what is even funnier?

Tom didn't configure the Opteron to do run the memory in dual channel mode. And on top of it, he only did ddr300 and not ddr400 on the Opteron. Aceshardware had a better test, but don't know if they got these items correct either.

Actually, the Opteron memory controller is set for DDR333. Ace's ran the modules at this speed, and Tom probably did too, since they are using the same hardware to test (Newisys 2100, if I'm not mistaken).

According to Ace's, Windows 2000 doesn't take full advantage of NUMA. Maybe this could be a reason why the Opteron shines on Linux, but has some difficulties on W2k aps.
