Seems silly they would not include that... Is it just software? Could they add it via an update?
Or does it need hardware to do it?
Anyone?
Possibly. Depends on their architecture. But I'm assuming if it was just software, it'd already be in there, so its probably a hardware issue.
theyll probably fix it with a firmware update like the 360 did.
I sure as hell hope so. The gpu should be able to upscale for free. It's absurd that this is even a problem to begin with.
why? the console isnt even out yet, seems like a small oversight to me. i doubt they took the time to test the ps3 with every HDTV on the market. in fact they probably only tested it with sonys lol.
Its not a small oversight. A very huge number of HDTVs, especially older ones, cant do this on their own. I used to have one. If the ps3 cant do HD, whats the point?
The PS3 can't do HD?
Not if your HDTV only does 1080i.
wow, that sucks, whats the point?
Thats good to hear now if I buy a HDTV in the next few months I need to make sure it does at least 720p. It will still be a couple years before I'll consider a PS3.
Sony still sucks though. I feel for the thousands with defecting lasers(it will happen) who waited in line for days. It might not happen at first but it will happen a few months down the road. I can't wait to see the PS3 defects start flooding the internet.

My brother and I went by Best Buy earlier to see if they had the Westinghouse HDTV so we could look at it pre-Black-Friday (the plan is that he gives me the money and I camp out to buy it for him, and in exchange I get to use it ).

Did they have the Westinghouse?
Did the model number match?
What were your impressions?

There were at least 10 tents set up by the entrance, people wearing about twelve layers of clothing because apparently anything under 50 degrees is bitter cold to Texans....
I can't poke fun too much since I'll be doing the same thing next Thursday evening. But at least I'll get a good deal out of it

Well, I just got back from camping at a local Wal-Mart. INSIDE, I might add. No way in hell was I going to be outside waiting.
10th in line. Went pretty well. The folks at the Pleasant Hill Wal-Mart in Duluth, GA treated us right. Had chairs for us to sit in along the backwall by the layaway department to mark each of the 12 consoles (8 60GB, 4 20GB) and 2 rain-checks they were offering. They escorted us out to our cars after everyone was checked out and everything. Kudos to that store as we heard that other Super Wal-Marts in the area were making people stand outside. I seriously don't know why stores don't embrace things like this and make it sort of an event and try to treat the campers right.
My only complaint was when they moved us out of the back of the shoe department where we had access to electrical outlets over to the crafts side where there were none. I had a pretty good setup with a portable DVD player and speakers until we moved and the battery on the DVD player died.
It was funny to see the people showing up at 8, 9, 10, 11, and even 12AM tonight long after the last of the chairs were taken. One punk looking guy offered up $500 for a seat and then proclaimed to have enough money to buy all our PS3s when he was turned down. Offer up some more money then idiot.
Another guy showed up at 11:30 and was determined to stay in line despite being repeatedly told that all the units were already claimed. He was for sure that they kept more than the allotted 12 somewhere because he was a store manager once and that's what he would do. He must've been fired from his store manager job because that is the damned stupidest thing I ever heard.

Haha, yea. I'm a Texan, but I've lived in WV and Alaska, so I know cold, and I call everybody down here a wuss when they dress like that for 40f weather
I'm also camping out, most likely overnight (depending) starting at 2330 after I get off work at BB on blackfriday. I want me a westinghouse 22" LCD monitor!
