I just got home from my Best Buy campout.

I was set up to get a 20GB with my place in line (22nd), but the manager announced yesterday night that they had 26 premium units instead of the guaranteed 20! I just got home with the 60GB PS3, an additional controller, and Resistance: Fall of Man

When I saw a line of 25-30 i didnt even bother.
Just wasn't worth the risk of not getting one for me.

They think that giving someone a $7500 PC gaming system will convince people consoles are overrated? That makes the PS3 look cheap!

What's lovely about that is you can just give one of your friends a "gift" of $600 and he can give you a "gift" of a PS3.

And for the record, my campout went so smoothly that it helped restore a bit of my faith in the human race. The manager didn't officially let us line up until the morning of the day before the launch, and I showed up the night before that. So they wouldn't let us line up at first, but we maintained an ordered unofficial list of people who got there first and planned to stay at Best Buy until the launch. In the end we wound up with about 50 people on the list for 38 units (4 of which never arrived at the store but may come later today). Everyone was very civil, there was no violence and people who wound up with the shoddier 20GB version didn't complain.

We only checked the status of absence once an hour on the hour, so I spent a lot of the extra time at the bars and playing Guitar Hero II inside the Best Buy. I am now addicted to Guitar Hero and will be purchasing it this weekend. I have not set up my PS3 yet; I don't have an HDTV, and am waiting for Black Friday to get the $499 Westinghouse 32".
