My wife called up a local Walmart. They are only getting 20 in for launch. They said they've already had a guy come buy and say that he was going to pay someone to camp out 48 hours for one.

When is Metal Gear Solid coming out?

Not until July I believe.

Then I'll be buying one in July. Those launch titles look like crap.

Why would they release Oblivion on the PS3 when it will already be over a year old?

Oblivion got delayed. They are adding new content though - The Knights of the Nine. It will be available for the PC and 360 though before the PS3 version of Oblivion is released.

Some PS3 Backwards Compatability Problems

Despite the inclusion of PS2 inside the PS3 - to make it as close to 100 percent backwards compatible as possible - problems have still been reported with a number of titles.

Sony has put up a list of the faulty games here (Japanese), with details of what goes wrong for each one.

GT4, Tekken 5, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, Devil May Cry and Silent Hill 2 are some of the bigger games to experience problems, although the list will shrink as Sony releases updates for the PS3 that fix any reported issues.

This doesn't come as a complete surprise - the PS2 experienced similar problems with a few PSone titles. Look on the bright side - PS3 owners are still far better off in the backwards compatibility stakes than 360 gamers, who have to wait for the limiting patch-based system to play Xbox games on their 360.

On the ps3 tho...it sucks so far. I played Tennis, Ridge Racer, and Devil May Cry 4. Ridge Racer was horrible, Devil May Cry was the same but didnt look nearly good enough to be..ooh wow.next gen....and tennis..is well tennis..u dont need much.

Not a single one of those launch titles looks appealing to me. Everything else I can get on a system I already own, or the Wii which I plan on getting. The PS3? I might get one when Sony sorts out it's yield and supply problems and the price comes down.

Right now, though, I have too much already I need to spend my money on. Wii, Zune, 360 HD-DVD, monitors (black friday, woo!), and games for all.

edit: Kinda funny, somebody named "KarmaPolice" wanting to rack up bad karma by jipping somebody on Fleabay.

Can we change the title to "It's been a long road to PS3?"

I always thought it was ironic that it's the subtitle to the XBOX360 thread since the lifespan of the XBOX was so short.

I won't get one until it is under $200...so I expect that to be 4+ years.

Why would I spend $600 on a game system that 90% of the games look/play just as well on my Xbox 360...and actually have online play...

I have a few questions about different versions of PS3 if anyone knows the answers.

I did post this in a seperate thread, but someone pointed out there was already one going.

Basically I've been offered an import Japanese PS3 and I want to know if there was anything I need to be aware of. What will work and what wont work etc.

Firstly, I live in the UK, I know that it won't play any blu-ray movies (due to being in a different region) or DVDs, but what about games? Would it be limited to Japanese games only and is it possible to change the language?

TV signal as well, would it work ok on a PAL TV? I'm planning on getting an HDTV at somepoint but that wouldn't be for a little while yet.

I'm particularly worried about the power supply. I can easily get an adapter to change the plug but is there any difference in the voltage/current etc that the PSU will accept?

I'm also interested in knowing if theres anything different with the US model, just for a sake of completion.

Honestly...would it really be worth it wondering whether you are stuck with an expensive console that won't work as expected? Just wait till they release it in Europe. It is not like there are games that are really worth playing right now anyway...by the time they get it to Europe...there might be a worthwhile game or two.

Better yet, just get an Xbox 360 and start playing some quality games (GRAW, Dead Rising, PGR3, Gears of War, COD3, Fight Night Round 3, etc.) now.

Blue Ray is backwards compatible with DVD. They said that games would be region free so you're not limited to Jap Games.
Maybe the DVD playback follows this also? As previous consoles lets you change the language. Why not.

Japan and US is NTSC I believe. You would need a converter for the power supply. But it should be rated pretty high to suit different countries.

I'm not sure how the region-locking works on movies but I know that PS3 games are region-free while PS2 games are not for backwards compatibility purposes.

A good power converter should be fine. I don't know what you'd do about the difference with PAL and NTSC though.

edit: Blu-Ray movies NOT region-free

I heard that for the Japanese launch, many of the people in line were hired homeless or poor immigrants. The first person in line was a Chinese immigrant who didn't even know what a PS3 was.

I suppose you could've made the same argument for buying a PS2 when the XBOX360 launched. It still has better games than the XBOX360.
