Local store is having a drawing in an hour for eight chances to buy a PS3. It's damned cold out right now, I am debating whether or not to go.

Supreme satisfaction comes with the knowledge that those who pay $2000 today are buying something that will be worth at most $500 1 year from now...but since we are talking about Sony hardware here the damn thing might be broken and worthless by then!

I hope the early buyers are happy they paid that extra $1500+ for that extra 24hrs of 'fun'.
In a week the will be selling for cost!

Looks like this guy didn't get as much as he was hoping.

Hey, would you mind telling me how much shipping for the PS3 should be for across the country shipping like priority mail?

USPS Priority for the PS3 is prolly gonna run you about $25 - $30 with insurance. Thats my guess.

But yeah, those prices dropped quick on Ebay. Check this out: PS3 60GB + 4 Games + 1YR Replacement Plan for $1230!

Thats gonna make about $230 in profit. Not much compared to first day sales. Definetly obvious that the market is flooded right now.

Well, I'm back from camping since Wednesday afternoon and landed (7) 60GB PS3's.
I waited a total of 44 hours! But I had my 2 bro's in line with me and one friend.

My plan was to buy 3 at Circuit City, 2 at Gamestop on Reserve and 2 at EB Games on Reserve.

At 12 PM Wednesday I landed with my crew and camping gear: (2) 4 man Tents, (4) Slumber bags rated for 30 degree weather, (2) Air mattress with memory foam, tent heaters, portable dvd player, Creative Zen Vision M MP3 Player, Laptops, Blankets, Ice Chest, small table, extension cords, power strip and some other protection stuff like knives.... for the Rotessiere chicken of course

Wednesday:
We camped at 12 at CC, and were numbers 1 - 3 out of 6 being given out. My other buddy keeping one for himself bought one.
First night was relatively cool with some gusty winds. Killed time browsing the web, since CC had an open Wi-Fi connection along with some other homes across the street broadcasting a signal.
Slept like a baby in my warm tent watching movies and "the office"

Thursday:
In the morning I left to go home about 15 minutes away to take a shower, shave and eat a nice warm fresh breakfast. Put on some fresh clothes and head back to the camp site. No clouds and temps were in the upper 60's. During the afternoon I posted some ads in Craigslist and recieved a couple phone calls. Later that night I left again around 11PM to pickup my fiancee because we had 2 pre-orders and were #1 and #2 at Gamestop. We got to Gamestop around 12AM Friday (Thursday Night) because the manager was doing a midnight launch. I picked up 2 more there and took off to drop off my first sale for $1800 cash! We met at a Walmart (lol) inside a Mcdonalds. Called him when I got to Walmart and concealed the stupid PS3 inside a bag and put it into a push basket. lol, felt like a drug deal going down. 2 guys showed up... said this was their 5th PS3 that their boss had bought. Boss was gonna give them away as an incentive promotion for his employees and gifts. Boss was apparently loaded, since he sent he workers to pick them up. Got my cash and went our seperate ways. Went back to Circuit City and chilled until the manager came out around 5AM and gave us vouchers so we could leave and come back to pick them up later.

Friday:
Friday Morning (6AM) went to eat at Denny's. Then went back to Circuit City for the 8AM Launch. Picked up 3 more for $610 EACH after tax! I had a coupon from Fat Wallet "$40 off any $199 purchase or more" I asked the manager if we could use these and she said "Sure, why not!" WOOT!!! Walked out of CC with 3 PS3's and received about 8 phone calls and some guy wanted 2 for Xmas gifts. Met him at a bank where he pulled up in an BMW M5 with his 2 kids. Sold 2 more to him for $3000 together! Second transaction completed smoothly. 3 PS3's down, 4 to go...... got some more phone calls and someone wanted 2 PS3's. Told them to meet me at my office at 10:30 AM were we have security and cameras. Guy showed up and sold 2 more as a bundle for $3400! Third transaction completed smoothly. 5 PS3's down 2 to go.
11AM recieved 2 phones calls.... I told them $1700 first come first serve. A guy and girl show up and fork over $3400 for both systems. Final transaction completed! (7) PS3's all sold within an 8 hour time frame.

Total Revenue: $11,600
My Investment: $4430
Profit: $7170

Not bad for 44 hours of waiting which I took 1 and 1/2 vacation days for. Overall the 44 hours I spent came out to a profit of $162.95 per hour of my time.
Thats a 381% Return On Investment in a 48 hour period. Only other thing I can think of that makes those kind of ROI's are drugs!

This money is going towards Xmas gifts, Savings for a new home and my final year of college tuition.

Actually it's $54.32/hour.

3 men waited in line 44 hours for 3 PS3s.

3 men x 44 hours = 132 man hours

$7170 profit / 132 man hours = $54.32/man hour

That's how it's estimated in the real world anyways. Still not a bad wage, especially for doing nothing but waiting.

This is comedy gold.

I've been tracking PS3 auctions all week. Looks like a majority of the scalpers are going to get screwed, BIG TIME  Kudos if you already unloaded your haul and made your money.

Case in point.

$890 - $499.99 PS3 - $59.99 RFOM - $49.99 Controller - $50.32 CA Tax - $32 eBay Fees - $27.27 PayPal Fees = $170.44

That's a rough estimate; the eBay fees could be plus/minus a few bucks, and he could make a few extra bucks profit on shipping.

I'm guessing the profit per hour is...not as much as he expected.

So I actually managed to play a ps3 today...target had a nice little kiosk set up. It was running 720p.

I got there, and there was this little munchkin playing nba 07. It looks good, 60fps smooth. But it didnt look any better than the 360 one. Both looked great, don't get me wrong, but at $600, I was expecting more.

So I smacked the little kid aside and grabbed the controller. Fired up the only other playable demo, motorstorm. I waited a good 30 seconds. The game came up, I chose the motorcycle, and then waited another minute for it to load. Seriously, 60 seconds, I timed it. The load times on this thing are absolutely atrocious.

So the game comes up, and I'm thinking hey, this looks great. Still, no better than 360 level, but looked great. Then the race started. The framerate nearly gave me a seizure. It was running at no more than 20-24fps. For a system thats claiming 1080p, if its chugging this bad in 720p, it shouldnt even think about 1080p. I'm sorry, but this kind of performance is unacceptable from the "next gen". I'm talking n64/psone level frame rates here. Worse than GTA3, for those that cant picture 20-24fps.

Regardless, the game played very well. The control was solid, and you could really tell the biker was separate from the bike. I pulled off a few sick turns, but one got me so bad I flew halfway off the course. My bike was headed right for the side of a mountain at 90mph.....and then it crashed.

It brought a tear to my eye. The sound it made when it crashed was both scary and impressive. I have never heard sounds like this come from a game before. It was borderline poetic.

I bet the sound effect when the bike hit the wall would have been fantastic. But the ps3 took it upon itself to crash at precisely the moment before I hit the wall. Can't say I was surprised, the ps3 must be overheating in this little kiosk...so I looked up and down...where the hell was it? Looked in the huge glass cabinet behind the kiosk, and there I saw it. It was enclosed, but had plenty of room to breath.

So I told the target dude, and the sigh that came from him was priceless. It was the kind of sound you make when you've had to do something for the 50th time that day. I asked him if it did this often...he said it wouldnt last 20 minutes.

The controller felt good. Mostly the same as the one that came out 10 years ago and all, but the analog sticks were a bit looser and more sensitive. The triggers on the back were an improvement for sure. No idea how well the motion control worked, because it wasnt part of the game, and the controller was locked onto a little bar, so it would have been impossible to use. The lack of rumble was apparent, and although not a huge deal, it was definitely missed.

So I'm very, very unimpressed. For those of you who bought it to play it, I suggest hooking it up in your fridge - the controllers are wireless, you know. For those selling it on ebay, I *HIGHLY RECOMMEND* that you inform your buyer to keep it cool. If they are going to pay 2k for something, theyre going to expect it to work. If they let it overheat, and it crashes often, they may not realize this. And they will return it to you. Whether you like it or not. Because paypal WILL give them their money back - thats just how it is.

 for those unlucky ebayers.

Although I didn't get a PS3 (wasn't looking), I did get a treat on PS3 launch day. I got my Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive and King Kong. All I can say is wow.

Ya that's what happens when there are more sellers than buyers, the market fell out from under their feet. Give it a week or two: if it's still near impossible to find one then prices will climb, I think $2000 is still a viable target price, maybe even higher if supply disruptions continue.

Prices might climb a little after the flood is gone, but trends always show that the overall price declines the closer you get to Christmas. This is just coming from discussions with eBayers who were on board for the XBOX 360 launch last year. It's not getting back to $2000.

Prices tend to peak right at launch and then steadily decline until Christmas as new supply reaches the market and people who REALLY needed to have one have one. People who were on the fence either decided to wait or buy an XBOX 360 or a Wii. You might see a slight bump after XMAS as people get some spare cash, but the days of 2-3K are over.

And the Xbox 360 and Wii may get a big boost from this if Sony cannot supply the PS3 fast enough. People may just get tired and get a 360 instead.

Now I know most of you are among the 'exploiters' of idiocy, but is there anyone on here that actually bought one of those $1000+ PS3s on ebay. Oh, if you did, disregard the first sentence for comfort. Also, it's hilarious how ebayers are not smart enough to understand supply and demand.

The perceived, rather than actual supply and demand is the real factor. I bet those people who paid 2k are now kicking themselves. Or just not paying.

Demand to sell >> supply >= demand to play or get kids killer expensive gift.

Tomorrow, everyone is going to be playing the Wii.
