I, as always, try to grind up my characters a lot so its easier to deal with enemies. Also, being able to use 3 arrows at a time really helps. Also, fire arrows. I love fire arrows.
Yeah, I like doing side quests so I'm in the same boat about grinding up so that enemies are easier. Even then, I've had a few encounters where I've died when I did not expect to. The 3 arrows skill was literally the first thing I hunted for when I leveled up, coming from the first game, but of course Guerilla nerfs it so that you can't spam triple arrows lol. Pretty much everything that was overpowered or cheese-able in the first game has been nerfed. Triple arrows is on what is essentially a mana bar, and tripwires can't be spammed to the same extent as the first game, even if you unlock the skills that let you lay down more at a time.

If you want 60 fps playing the PS4 version on PS5 is really solid. You sacrifice tall grass and get 1800p checkerboard instead of legit 1512p to 1800p dynamic res like on the PS5 performance mode, but the 60 fps makes up for it since Sony doesn't support VRR. Though only works if you bought digital or PS4 physical, can't play the PS4 version if you got PS5 physical.

Horizon has another patch out but they are still looking into the graphical issues in performance mode it seems. Probably going to take them a while to fix the upscaler. It's most apparent in 4k and oled TV's.

Started Horizon last night for a couple hours on my 65” LG CX. Besides graphics being not that impressive compared to some other games I’ve played recently (Uncharted 4 with PS5 upgrade looked better), I see nothing glaringly wrong with performance mode. Certainly nothing distracting like the complaints I’m reading here. Can’t decide if I want to continue with it or play Elden Ring first. Elden Ring seems better suited to the season .. dark and dreary for the end of winter and then pick up colorful Horizon for the spring

This is a good example of it. I have a lg C8 and for me it looks similar to this. Lots of shimmer and shine as you move the camera, etc.

I have been playing HFW since to was released and there is one "?" in the Daunt that I cannot get to. It is on the far SE side. I have looked for ways to climb up and even tried to glide to the area. I have collected all of the lens so I know it is not one of those..

It could be behind an area you don’t have the tools to reach yet. As you play the main story you will get additional tools to clear new paths.

Alright, I was able to put in a lot more hours into HFW over the weekend. Man, is it just me or is the combat much more frustrating in this game over the first? Guerilla Games really rebalanced some of the mechanics in ways that are arguably more "fair" but end up making the game less fun in my opinion. I'm playing on hard and machines feel like arrow sponges (i.e. they can take a lot of hits), the strongest machines are only weak against acid (which is arguably the most useless elemental), it's super easy to get stun locked, you cannot roll dodge too many times before Aloy staggers and slows down, etc. I get that all of the changes are to promote using the entire arsenal of weapons but it honestly feels like I'm playing Dark Souls at times, where if you don't dodge at the right moment you get spanked for 3/4 of your health bar.

Yeah they make you use your focus to scan enemies a lot more closely to determine the weakness etc. the most effective method of dispatching machines is to cause chain reactions. Some of them have a poison or blaze canister you can shoot with the correct arrow and they will blow up. The game almost forces you to use stealth and be more strategic, setting up traps etc

So who else is picking up another huge launch title that they won't play tomorrow? Hard to believe that GT7 didn't just wait a month or two.

I used to play racing games at one point a long time ago. I'm interested in seeing what it all offers. I know it looks amazing from what I saw in a few reviews. Haven't made my mind up yet.

Gran Turismo hasn't interested me since Forza came out.

And Forza hasn't interested me since like part 2 or 3.

Yeah, GT hasn't felt great since the PS3 days IMO. Forza also has become somewhat stale and doesn't feel like they add features, just micro transactions and slot machines to Horizon's. When I look at the car lineup, very few cars after 2018 which means they are a generation old. The new Forza doesn't even have a current gen BMW M car for example. No new Porsche, Lamborghini or Ferrari either. I will get GT7, but it will be a filler game at most since Elden Ring and then Forbidden West will consume my time.

Better sound, better graphics, better physics—the Gran Turismo 7 review | Ars Technica

  • Looks and sounds better than any previous GT game
  • With 34 tracks and ~420 cars at launch, the game will keep you busy for a very long time
  • The return of favorite tracks from GT1
  • Being able to modify, tune, and paint cars again

Quote from Sam Machkovech:
GT7's arrangement of objects around a race track is weird, and looking at these details in replays and pre-race track peeks feels decidedly last-gen. Lots of copy-pasted trees, and buildings seem to float in the distance, instead of looking grounded, thanks to iffy passes of textures/lighting/shadows. That's not the same as the racing experience itself, which absolutely screams at 60 fps + high fidelity on PS5. It looks and feels fantastic inside of a car's cockpit.

So some stuff is really good and others, like the track surrounding environmental objects are crappy. Still, feels like a must buy.

If GT7 can match the physics of Assetto Corsa, iRacing, PC2 etc it’ll be an instant buy for me. I don’t usually like racing games that much, always seems kind of like work to set up and get in the cockpit, but I play them anyway as practice for IRL track days

I think GT developers have their own definition of driving physics. I mean, GT Sport still had the bump-into-cars physics. Always fun to get rid of AI cars by bumping them off the track and taking their position

Looks like dying light 2 will get a big patch including fixing ragdoll animations.

Dear Players,
on top of hotfixes we are working on a big patch for PC and consoles.
This patch will introduce fixes for deathloop, ragdoll animations, user interface, and much more!
We aim to make it available for PC gamers next week, while console might get it a few days later.

Played GT7 for an hour or so this evening and pretty disappointed in it. The presentation and menus are horrific in my opinion. Too much clicking around, back and forth just to drive. The avatars have dialogue that feels like an after thought and the images look straight out of stock images that you can buy online. Feels very PS1, but with a shiny coat of 4k paint. This is were Forza does a better job and actually has voice actors. The licenses are more of a chore to open things up. I don't even try and can get silver or close to it. I'm sure a completionist will go back and hammer out golds, but having to suffer through pages of dialogue ruins it for me. And the music is just irritating. They took classical music pieces and JRPG'd them is probably the best way to put it. Think of Final Fantasy meats Beethoven.

Back to Elden Ring.
