It was an okay/entertaining movie in it's own right, but if you go into it expecting Bond, you'll be disappointed. It didn't seem like a James Bond movie at all. :\

And personally I thought the Bond girl in this go around was awful. Not that she acted awful, but just that it was a completely useless character that never added much to the story. There wasn't any chemistry between her and Bond and to keep her tagging around just got boring.

I think it could have been more interesting if they focused more on Bond's deterioration from a spy into nothing more than a killer. They just nonchalantly referenced that he shouldn't be killing so much, and then went about their business.

I need to add that it didn't live up to the 007 flavor with the gadgets and 'gorgeous' guns.

It could have been a completely different title with different named characters, and some people wouldn't even have suspected it to relate to bond, more like a really bad Mission Impossible 2 1/2 movie? MI:3 was terrible.

The movie kept up 1/4 of the way.. but I lost interest as the movie progressed, it got more and more dissapointing. I mean, if the fighter pilot wanted to confirm a kill with the plane that Bond was on and kept following it, ... could of just shot the cockpit first with nearly everything he had and then just took out the wing peices to prevent desired navigation.

The bad guy fight at the end, ... dissapointing, the first fight was better than the very last.

I give the movie a 1 1/2 out of 4. And the woman who was like the commander of James Bond, she... wasn't the greatest actress for the job - picked up a lot of fakery from they way she acted.

Casino Royale did a great job introducing a Bond with a new theme. I thought GoS was a decent continuation. I don't miss the stupid gadgets and over-the-top action of the previous Bonds one bit. I thought there was plenty of witty one-liners. Enough to keep the dialogue light, but not campy.

I agree the shaky-cam action in some of the sequences was annoying and completely unnecessary.

Oh, and the Bond girl was unbelievably sexy. Was her character important to the plot and was she a good actress? Who cares?

In a word. Meh.
I kind of felt that they stuffed in as many action sequences as they could muster. The start of the movie was like a typical JB movie with the song and animation but I felt disengaged with it. Just didn't feel that polished or well done. Seemingly Bond feels no pain like a robot that keeps going and going. The Bourne series were similar but those movies had a touch of humanness to them. They were made so you could cheer on Jason Bourne. Not so much with James Bond in QOS who seems like a superhero that defies everything and nothing stops him. Some of the stuff was over the top and just wasn't easily believable.
Like someone above said, it was too much like the Bourne series. The jittery camera shots. The jumps on terraces etc.
Casino Royale was many times better than this movie.

Where were all the awesome Bond gadgets? Aren't the gadget what makes a Bond movie a Bond movie?

WORST BOND MOVIE EVAR! :|

* no bond gadgets
* very little of bond doing hawt women
* no grandios super villian plots/lairs, hell austin powers films were more "bond" than this crap...LOL
* no bond humor
* they need to bring back Q
* M sux, tired of looking at that old bag
* too much shaky camera crap
* this is a bond film, not bourne!
* craig = worst bond evar
* connery > *
* crappy bond song at the beginning
* all the fight scenes looked the same
* bond girl had fugly scars on back...wtf? bond did not "do" supossed bond girl.
* water? huh? water? LMAO........stop it with the tree hugger message bullshit, nobody cares!
* batman revamp worked, bond revamp failed miserably

I was pissed that they screwed up the last movie and really hoped that they would fix this one, but I guess they were more involved in making this another bourne movie than bond movie. having said this, you know what though? the last movie was 100000x better than this quantum crap. I am not looking forward to the next one if they do the same old thing.

enjoyed Casino Royale, didn't like this one at all. But did like the fact that it is a 3 part triology, so I will look forward for the third. QoS sets the story on course. Hopefully the bad guy will be more bad ass.

I saw it and it was absolutely disappointed as a Bond fan. I don't mind if you bring in new actors but make them true to the character. Craig is so damn serious, its like I am watching a live feed of brain surgery not a enjoyable "testosteroney" ride. No gadgets, no on liners, no unique archvillain, no simple story, the list goes on. Until the standards dont go up, no buy on Blu-Ray and definitely no looksie on the next movie.

I loved Casino Royale....Quantum of Solace not so much. Way too much action and little story with plot holes. I'm surprised the credits didn't have Michael Bay in there.

Although I will say the theater scene was absolutely the best part of the movie.

This. After enjoying Casino Royale so much, this just seemed like a never ending action flick with a plot thrown in to see if it would survive. The evil organization was never fully delved into, the relationship between bond and vespas bf was never explained, and like gorcorps said, the camera angle switched so often you couldn't enjoy anything. I guess that's what you get when you change directors.

I liked it.
Action scenes were great.
The way they were shot, not so great.

I'll take it over the old Bond any day. Why? Here is how stupid the action scene were on old Bond.
,
James Bond is trying to escape a bunch of henchmen in a parking garage with his gadget filled cell phone and BMW 7 series. He has rockets and many other Bond gadgets.
By far the stupidist thing I have seen in a modern Bond film. The henchmen setup a steel cable in an attempt to stop Bond's car. Fortunately for Bond, unfortunately for fans that want to keep Q or R, Bond has the perfect gadget for this. The BMW's hood ornament pops out to a device just needed for this cause. It's a small pipe shaped device with a series of gears machined with steel wire cutting teeth.
Yes, the wire cutting device was the perfect height for the steel cable. You see, Germans are perfectionist, and take evil methodically. In their evil henchmen playbook, they are instructed to deploy steel cables at that exact height.

I agree with this halfway. It wasn't a pile of shit movie but not a great action movie. I just can't get over the fact how Un-Bond these movies are. Bond should still be witty. You are born with wittyness. You don't just learn it when you start to kill people. He is too different from every Bond there has every been. There should still be some Bondness in these movies. There is none. Casino Royale was a good action movie though.

I thought there was enough bondness in casino royale, but it was completely devoid of any in this one.

Are you kidding? There was plenty of Bond, unless you're pissed he didn't throw out lame inuendos, or care what kind of martinis he was drinking. Go rent Die Another Day for your fix of that stuff.

There were plenty of flashes of Bond, such as him refusing to stay in some dump and heading right for the five star hotel. "We're teachers on sabbatical...who just won the lottery." If you're pissed that he didn't have a cell phone that transforms into a hang glider, then I guess we want different things from a Bond movie.

Based on the U.S. opening numbers, I have a feeling the producers of the next movie are going to take the criticisms from all the armchair quarterbacks in this thread and go ahead and ignore them.

I liked Goldeneye a lot - but didn't like the other with PB as bond, which I think is the norm for most people, the last one being by far the worst.

What I want from a Bond movie is to be entertained and QoS did that. I don't particularly care for the gadgets, I like the wit + bond girls, I want a compelling bad guy for Bond to be chasing, and I want to have a Bond that is interesting to watch. For me, this movie did all that.

- Bond had that crazy camera/gps tracking. That's more the gadgetry I'd like to see than the "this wristwatch has a laser that you can shoot!"
- He wasn't exactly all over the double-talk, but he did have some nice lines in the movie the stationary one as mentioned made me chuckle. He's still as suave and charming (Though to be honest, Craig doesn't really come off that way to me, not like brosnan did.) the hotel with the lottery bit, and I think a couple other small quips in the film.
- He is a pretty interesting character. He's not some detached super spy whose emotions are there for the sake of trying to make a bond girl more interesting. He's a character who is actually brooding and it imo gives depth to bond's character. Especially since this is more of a "early bond" type of setting.
- While it wasn't comic book super villian evil, taking legal control of a lot of the countries water while doing it with the support of the Americans (and Brit's) thinking they are in it for oil is sufficiently evil for me. Especially since you get the feeling that this was just part of the plan : The plan itself would extend further to other countries- AND that the plan itself was probably part of some larger scheme for quantum.
- I guess we now know why he drinks his martini's shaken
- I do kinda wish they did put in "Bond, James Bond". There were several opportunities he could have said it without really detracting from the movie, and even if they are more subtle about it, I'd like that to be in there.

I do agree that the action scenes wile good, were not something I would expect from a bond movie. I really did feel like I was watching another bourne identity, especially with the way they were moving around the world and such.

oogabooga has a couple of good points that I would've mentioned - gadgetry and his ability to woo women. The super-phone that he uses is so kick ass and yet smoothly utilized that most are forgetting about it. As for his charm with the ladies: even Bond is just beginning to realize (and M points it out) what his powers of seduction is capable of. You have to remember that this is a reimagination of the character so a lot of what we've come to know as "Bond" is still being developed.

A couple of days later and my review of the movie hasn't gotten any better. Still a 6/10, roughly, for me. Maybe 6.5

That's not what I mean by 'needs more Bond'. The scene you quoted was the only thing even remotely bond like. In Casino Royale, the way he would flirt with Vesper was perfect for Bond.
"Don't worry you're not my type."
"What, smart?"
"Single"

Or when he came back after being poisoned:
"Welcome back"
"Sorry, that last hand nearly killed me"

And there was a bunch more. There wasn't as much in this one so it seemed a tad off. I don't care much about gadgets, that was others bitching about that so don't pin that on me. And for the record, the Brosnan movies suck in every way a Bond movie can suck. My ideal Bond thus far was Casino Royale. QoS wasn't nearly as bad as any of the PB movies, but it still failed in comparison to what Casino Royale showed was possible with a new Bond. I guess I'm just pulling a Yahtzee here and completely ragging on the few negative QoS had.

It was the worst bond movie I've ever seen....no major bad guy in this movie, and the bond girl had like what, 5minutes total in the whole movie? WTF was that...
