McCain came out strong in the beginning and got Obama in kind of a whiny tone defending himself, but Obama came back by drawing McCain into the Pakistan strike trap ("bomb bom bomb Iran"). Overall though this is boring enough that it'll be called a wash and won't change anything.

That said this debate format sucks.. neither is really allowed to clarify misstatements from the other.

True, we have held them back so many times, specially during Gulf war 1 when scud missiles were raining down on Israel.

We don't hold them back, we simply tell them when it is, and when it is not, acceptable to use the weapons that we sell (give) them. They listen because they don't want us to stop selling (giving) them weapons.

He said he'd be willing to take military action without UN approval in that situation. This also suggests he will just act if he judges it necessary.

He didn't specify whether he'd try for UN approval first, but that really depends on the exact situation to give a good answer in the first place. (If a counter attack isn't occurring for a bit, maybe you at least go through the motions at the UN first.)
