Well I watched the whole disgusting debate. In MHO, neither won and both lost. Then to add injury to insult, I watched the post debate rehash on CBS.
And what shocked me is the Obama came out ahead on nearly every metric except one. And the one was that more people thought McCain was ready to be President on day one than Obama, when my reaction is that McCain is so damn dumb and clueless that he will never be ready to be President. Sadly I had hoped that Obama would demonstrate his readiness, and I sadly came away concluding God help us all because both are clueless turkeys.
Pretty much mirrors my thoughts after this debate.
Well I don't want to ruin your Christmas dreams so I shall remain quiet about Santa.Originally posted by: NFS4
Man oh man. I think I might need a drink tonight! This post is like hearing that Santa Claus isn't real... that the Easter Bunny doesn't really leave me delicious chocolate treats...
My hopes and dreams are shattered. ProfJohn calling Clinton a popular and successful president?? Man, what a country!
I thought I was the only one who saw McCain refuse to shake hands. What a fcking sore loser, at least shake the other guy's hand for christ's sake.Originally posted by: db

Yes he was angry. And refusing to shake Obama's hand was
evidence of his uncontrollable anger. How will McCain
perform in a crises when he can't even control his emotions
during a non-crises, given "all his years of experience"?!

You're kidding right? Obama clearly dodged all punches by McCain and suckerpunched him on foreign policy. McCain rolled out a Democratic package and pissed off his party. McCain failed to punch Obama with the Ayers connection that he has tasked Palin with which makes him look like a wuss.Originally posted by: ProfJohn

Obama won..
We need a quick poll
Even the partisans said that it was another tie.
These have been very even debates with neither candidate getting the upper hand.
Were you watching the same debate?

Round 2.
More blame Bush.
Bill Clinton's fault?
I'd rather fix it than point fingers. Pointing fingers gets us nowhere.
And for the record I don't thing I've ever blamed Clinton for anything.
You're not blaming your hero Bush therefore you are blaming the previous administration.
Unmm no I'm not. Before you can be the smartest person on the internet, I'd suggest you learn how to fucking read.

what difference does a fake formality make? should McCain pretend to like the guy when everyone knows otherwise?
It's a classless move not to shake hands. Period.Originally posted by: loki8481

I like Obama more than McCain and I'm not voting for either. I stand by my original analysis that McCain didn't land any punches and then got suckerpunched on foreign policy at the end (bomb bomb bomb Iran/annihilate Afghanistan/Baghdad Next! = McCain shocked). McCain lost, and there won't be enough time between the last debate and election day to make up the ground (even if he wins the debate).Originally posted by: ProfJohn

I am a McCain supporter, I think McCain won.
What I am saying is that the professionals who do this for a living are pretty much in agreement that neither of them really 'won' No one is going to change their vote after tonight.

the entire debate, mccain's goal was to not answer the question and to try smearing the shit out of obama. there were so many times whenever mccain would lie about things obama wanted to do and obama was sitting there looking at him like, "oh, this i gotta hear... uh huh..."... it was priceless.
something that pissed me off is that obama took mccain's bait so many times. i just wanted him to brush it off and say that the fact checkers will set everything straight and to wait until the debates are over and watch the commentary on how mccain's spewing bullshit. too many times, obama would have to respond some long-winded response and miss the chance to answer a question all because mccain set him up. another thing that kinda bugged me was that he would take too long to answer a little too often.
mccain's a piece of shit.

So Obama repeatedly can't (or won't) answer the question that's posed to him, and this is somehow McCain's fault?

I disagree, I don't think either candidate was as concerned with answering questions as they were with throwing punches or retaliating when the other candidate threw a punch. I watched some of the debate but was so badly disappointed that I turned it off.
I think they should just get rid of the debates altogether. They've become completely pointless and we're not learning anything about the candidates. Of course they'll keep them to make it sem like we're vetting our candidates, but still...
This was, I think, a mauling: a devastating and possibly electorally fatal debate for McCain. Even on Russia, he sounded a little out of it. I've watched a lot of debates and participated in many. I love debate and was trained as a boy in the British system to be a debater. I debated dozens of times at Oxford. All I can say is that, simply on terms of substance, clarity, empathy, style and authority, this has not just been an Obama victory. It has been a wipe-out.It has been about as big a wipe-out as I can remember in a presidential debate. It reminds me of the 1992 Clinton-Perot-Bush debate. I don't really see how the McCain campaign survives this.
