So far, I'm not really feeling it.

I mean, it's ok, but these controls are god awful (again, lifted straight out of gta), and riding on a horse feels more tedious than walking, tbh.

Still early in the game, storywise, I'm sure it'll pick up.

horse controls were fine for me. nothing terrible. but it just seems that took gta and put a new skin on it. the controls... aiming system... is all the same...

Most of my complaints of the horse controls stem from the fact that I HATE herding, and I've already had to do it 3 times. :\

My thoughts exactly, controls are terrible. I am enjoying the single player though and it looks fantastic. Maybe the controls will grow on me.

Are you guys using the horse relative or camera relative for horse control? I switched to camera relative, much easier.

Is it true that I am reading that the MP component cannot be accessed until you "find" something or complete some sort of challenge in the SP mode?

(This is something I just spotted at DVDTALK)

Greg

Of course, you have to wait until you get your cell phone!

Geez, I wish I came back here before I started playing, as the first thing I did was input the code. After using gold guns for a few hours I think I would rather have $35. The game is pretty fun, minus the overly long intro and tutorials. All the random stuff sidetracks you quite a bit. I usually plow through story missions and hardly ever do side missions, but I find myself getting into random quests, hunting, treasure hunting, and even picking flowers, instead of progressing through the story. Anyone know if there is a way to turn off/disable the animal skinning animation?

Also, aside from some aliasing the PS3 version doesn't look bad at all. You tend to see aliasing on background stuff, but not really foreground. The aliasing also can...dont know what this is, but its like it shakes sometimes. Frame rate doesnt seem bad, better than GTA4, but this isn't Liberty City so thats expected.

Heh, I got a code in the game case, and Amazon just sent me an email with another code for the golden guns. I guess one of them is going on Ebay.

I don't really find the controls bad. If you change the horse control to camera relative, it's way easier to control. I found the cover system works fine, and the aiming is really easy for me.

I have an additional gun pack also - does anyone have the additional outfit from Gamestop? I'm willing to swap

I had too much to do last night and didn't get a chance to play, so I was really anticipating reading a bunch of game impressions and zany wild west antics and exploits this morning to tide me over.

So far I've only seen mostly not-so-positive comments. Should I be worried, or is everyone just too busy having fun leaving hookers on railroad tracks to bother posting here?

I enjoy the game so far. There appears to be so much to do. I spent like 45 minutes last night just sniping birds from the sky and taking their feathers.

I also saw a few interesting random things. I was riding from one town to another when I came across an old man grieving for his dead wife. I got off my horse and looked a bit, and then got back on to ride away. Suddenly the guy pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head and fell right next to his wife.

Then I was down by some water area and I heard shooting. I see some fat scraggly looking dude come running past, and turn around to see a guy with a badge chasing him. So I took out my rifle and shot the dude in the back, and got thanked by the law man.

Yea, I got a second one too, I put that sucker on ebay as well (for $30 this time). I doubt it'll sell at that price, since people are undercutting at $15 now, so I'll probably keep this one.

Well, the game is well made, there's plenty to do, and some of the missions are interesting. The problem mostly for me, is that they decided to lift nearly the same controls out of GTA4. The controls are clunky and just stupid. Why on earth do I need to hold a button to run? Has rockstar ever hear of an analog stick? You know... push it a little, and you walk. Push it all the way, and you run. Not a hard concept.

See, I liked GTA4 despite the controls. As of right now, I don't know if I feel the same about RDR yet.

I spent about 20 mins with it last night. Pretty cool so far but I have only gotten to the point where I shot some rabbits and coyotes.

Controls are fine IMHO (never played a GTA game). Are they as fluid as COD no but they aren't that bad and they are way better than BC2 IMHO.

Riding the horse is interesting yes but it will get boring as time goes on.

FYI I had MP access from the get go. There were 2 things I think that were locked in the MP room but I was able to go to the MP area and shoot a few people last night right out of the box.

Again I only spent about 20 mins with the game (and most of that was the videos/intros LOL)

I'm really enjoying this so far. I probably put in a solid 3 or 4 hours last night. As with any Rockstar game the characters and dialogue are solid. The horse controls are a bit awkward but I think I've adjusted pretty quickly and haven't had too much trouble (although I always forget about "braking"). Herding is definitely not one of my favorite things.

I really like the Journal Challenges concept as well as the idea of Social Club challenges (that I couldn't try yet since the Social Club was overwhelmed). I have a ridiculous amount of animal meat and pelts in my inventory from completing challenges and hunting for fun. The amount of wildlife and variety of encounters is pretty impressive--it's exciting to be surprise attacked by a snake or a pack of wolves.

I think my favorite aspect so far is the random encounters with strangers as well as the random crimes you encounter where you can choose to intervene for better or worse. The world feels alive and is more engaging than GTA because of the increased opportunities for interaction.

This reminds me of when I decided to go hunting, and I found a bear... I put 3 shots into him with the repeater, and then his bear friend (coming out of nowhere) comes up behind me and mauls me. :awe: LMAO
