Oh yeah, what options are there for us who only purchased the game, but still want a microphone? Are they selling those separately right now, or are those waiting until early next year as well? Can I pick up another, non-RB-branded microphone that will work?

low stock. backorder until 2/1/08. Stores MAY HAVE a few copies from now until say Friday, but after that GGPO

Or so you think...I hope everyone who bought multiple that tried to make a profit gets screwed...either by scammers or by low final bids.

Let's see, 1500 active listings RIGHT NOW. If HMX/EA isn't lying out of their ass, there won't be anymore shipments of the special edition until feb sometimes, that means no restocks from Black Friday - Xmas. 21 days with no new shipments of RB. OR hell, let's even say LOW shipments of RB. I'm assuming this because this is what I'm basing my eV on.

Now those 1400 that are currently up are from people who purchased it/preordered it and got it today. Let's say maybe there's another thousand next week. What then? There's no restocks, so ebay hoarders (like myself) can't get anymore to list on eBay. 2 weeks left until xmas, supply runs dry like a mother fucker, demand gets higher as people want last minute gifts, prices increase again, and I pay for my new xbox360.

At least, that's how it sounds in my head. Too many people listed it today, supply increased a ton so overall prices dropped. It's not a big deal if they don't sell, since I can just return them. Wii's are still hot. I think the elmo tmx's were a bad call on my part though.

there will be more shipments. but they will probably trickle out and be hard to find.
i might try this if I ever stop into a store and see one.

Yeah but how many of those purchases are from users w/ 0 feedback and/or brand-new usernames? The risk of selling to those guys are extremely high.

Edit- I want to say that no, I hope you and people like you don't get scammed...I just think it's a lousy practice, always have, always will.

dunno, can't say. The prices are still "reasonable" so I don't think the scammers have got to it...yet. i only follow PP's seller protection guidelines, and don't sell to sketchy bidders. Haven't gotten burned...yet

it may be a lousy practice, but hey I woke my ass up at 7am, was late to work, and spent 2 hours on the road to drive a cumulative 40 miles to pick all this shit up. if other people were so diligent, they wouldn't need to buy it on ebay

i wake up at 645am every sunday and spend 3 hours wii hunting. people CAN find it if they look hard enough. there are no secrets here, just hard work (and maybe a ton of credit)

maybe because the ps3 sucked ass whereas rock band pwns GH3 like a mofo. Also, ps3 markup was like 300% -> nothing

RB markup is like 100% -> 20% -> ????

There are also opportunities available if you're willing to ship to CA, since I guess they got shafted

Alright guys, I have some questions after playing online. Had a ton of fun while doing so, but there are a few quirks. I have a gold account, and I played as lead while my wife played as bass as a guest. My friend has a gold account and did vocals, and his wife played drums as a guest. So two gold members, and two guests.

First up, we couldn't find any way to talk to each other in any part of the online game, lobby or during play. We opened a private chat between us so we could talk in the lobby, but this seems stupid to have to do it this way. What's the deal? Also, we could not hear him singing on our end, which I think defeats the whole purpose of the online band aspect. I saw a loading screen that stated the vocalist could hold the LT or RT to talk to everyone while singing, but we never heard anything from him, and he held a trigger down the entire time during a song (on his end, he said an icon showed him that he was doing something by holding the trigger down). Anybody know what this is about?

Other than the voice issues, the online band is fun as hell. We had a blast playing, and will definitely be playing online quite a bit just for fun.

I know this for a fact: You won't be able to hear others singing over Live.

Anyone know a good, cheap mic stand for the Rock Band Mic? Or what size the mic is? I have a stand but mic is too large to fit.

I'm still having some major skipping problems with sound cutting out for moments at a time up to cutting completely silent for a second or two randomly during songs. The disc looks absolutely fine, I'm going to take it back tomorrow for another one.

Just started up, again, and rock band updated from live.
Anyone know what this was for?
I hate getting updates without knowing what it does.
Edit: Apparantly its a fix because some of the Strats weren't recognizing downstrokes correctly or at all.

Also, a couple quirks with the game i have.
I can't turn on the xbox by pressing the xbox button on any of the controllers when they are plugged into the usb hub. So I have to press the power button on the console and then unplug and replug in the hub. Or I can just have one peripheral in the first port and the hub in the second and turn it on with the first. But even then I still have to unplug/replug the hub.

Also, they give you the connection kit for your headset, and it will connect to the guitar, but it will only work as a mic when connected to a controller. The headset would be convenient, but not if it is anchored to a controller somewhere.

Last complaint, why can't I use the same character for different instruments? To start the game in world tour mode, I created me as the drummer and leader of the band. Later me and my girlfriend wanted to switch but I couldn't be the leader and a guitarist. So when she wants to play the drums she has to be my character so we can keep advancing in BWT mode.

man this game is awesome. Drums owned me last night.

The only problem I have had is a disk read error once. That is the first time my machine has ever had that happen. I just hope it isn't a sign of impending rrod. The disk had no fingerprints or scratches. I'm probably being paranoid though. It worked fine after that and so did Mass Effect.

Tried Blackened on expert drums for giggles and insta failed lol.

I'd like to think I'm a decent Guitar Hero player - I'm in the top 5 in the Sochl GH3 group. I'm not saying this makes my view of the game and more or less important, but take from that what you will. I managed to play 2 tiers on guitar on hard and drums on medium. So here's my quasi-review of Rock Band:

The unboxing in 3 words: messy, tedious, sexy

The packaging for this game is nuts. Everything has its own box, all encapsulated within a box. Everything is in plastic wrap, zip tied, and taped down. Your room will inevitably be a mess to get everything up and running. But once it's all out, put together (which is actually fairly simple), and plugged it - the only word to describe it is sexy. The thing that surprised me most was the guitar - photos do it no justice. It is literally a Fender Strat. Very, very nice.

Drums:
Pros:
Pedal is firm enough that you can rest your foot on it without triggering a button.
Pads are really responsive and can take a beating.
Controls in the game using the pads to navigate menus and whatnot is surprisingly simple.
I really like the directional pad on the drum kit - so much that I wish it was the one on the 360 controller.

Cons:
I don't think the sticks can take a beating - you'll probably need a new set after a while.
No tilt adjustment - sometimes altering the height just isn't enough.
No place to put your sticks - I managed to cram them into the hole in the center, but it's awkward.
Cable for the pedal to the set is too short - if you have the drums very high up the pedal won't rest on the floor.
I really wish you could lock the pedal to the base, and not just have it rest over the bars.

Guitar:
Pros:
It looks damn sexy.
Whammy bar is long and easy to access.
Start/select buttons are big and labeled well.
Directional pad's Up/Down/Left/Right actually makes sense (unlike the Guitar Hero one), and it is placed well.

Cons:
This could be a "pro" to some, but the frets are all flush with each other, so it's difficult to get a feel for where you are. I suppose it's more like a real guitar.
Could just be because it's new, but the frets are rough to push in. Initially it's not an issue, but after a while it gets to you.
Same as above, but with the strum bar. I like to strum one direction unless it's a really fast part, but it's very difficult to do so with this one. Almost like they want you to strum up and down all the time.

Other Hardware:
My biggest issue is the fact that you cannot turn your console on with an instrument connected through the USB hub. This was confusing, and at first I thought my hub was simply broken. You need to either manually push the power button on the console, or have one instrument connected to the console directly and use that to power on.

The Game:
First thing I need to mention is how fantastic it is at switching between instruments. You never need to choose which one you're using (aside from guitar/bass since it's the same instrument). So with both plugged in, I can do a solo quick play on guitar, go back, just get on the drums in the same menu, pick a song, and I'm on it on drums.

I don't like the fact that you cannot use the same character for different instruments. This makes saving money/unlocking songs and items tedious, I think. Instead of pigeon-holing you to a single instrument, they should have just let you create a single virtual persona of yourself and let it transcend all instruments. What's worse is two characters cannot have the same name.

As far as difficulty goes, on Guitar Hero 2/3 I could play through Expert. On Rock Band, I immediately jumped into Hard and, while I still 5-starred every song I played, I made stupid mistakes mainly because of the new guitar. Maybe it will just take some time to get used to, or maybe I need to go back to the GH2 guitar, but I don't think I will be able to get the intense solos with this guitar. Also of note - activating "overdrive" (star power) is a bit of a chore now, as a tilt is not what triggers it, but rather a change in tilt from low to high. That is to say, if the guitar is already tilted high (as I normally play it), I need to tilt it back down first, then back up. I'm not sure if I like this better or worse than GH3's super-sensitive activation, where it would go off if I did so much as use the whammy bar.

Drums are really fun. I look forward to mastering them. On the drive to work today, all I was thinking about was playing them. It's fantastic. Some downsides are the fact that there are songs that have drum notes that I can't even hear - usually they're hi-hat or cymbal hits - so they're tough to play. Also, having played the actual drums a while back, I find it a little awkward making cymbal hits on the same level as the drums. Usually they're higher up.

Tonight I put it to the true test and get some friends to play co-op with me. I can't imagine it being anything short of pure, unadulterated awesomeness.

Oh, and P.S. - the track list is the best of any rhythm game ever. Just jumping into it - the first 5 songs I played were "Blitzkreig Bop", "Creep", "I Think I'm Paranoid", "In Bloom" and "Here It Goes Again".

"Blitzkreig Bop" and "Here It Goes Again" on drums will give you the most incredible "holy shit I can't believe I'm doing this" moments.

There is a place to put the sticks. On the back of the blue and yellow pads there are two little pieces of plastic that slide out and perfectly fit the two sticks. This is nice because when I am done I wrap the cord up on hang it on the sticks from here so the cord doesn't have to sit on the floor.

Ahh, I saw those and thought something attached to them but couldn't find anything else in the box so figured it was either for the future or for manufacturing purposes. Never thought to slide them out, thanks.

Good review. I agree on most everything. The only real complaint is that they should have included Solo band world tour. It is hard for me to get my wife to play even though she said she had fun.

Is your console vert or horizontal ? I was getting disc reads like crazy while mine was vert, switched it to Horizontal and they reduced dramatically ( I think I only got 1 in the past couple months)

I know ultimately the drive is $hit, but its out of warranty so...
