In continuation of my past review - here's the follow up after a week of playing the game by myself and with 3 other people:
Guitar:
Maybe I'm too used to Guitar Hero, but I don't like playing guitar on Rock Band.
Hammer-ons and pull-offs are very difficult, and some just flat out don't work. The short-bar system for determining which notes can be done without strumming doesn't work nearly as well as the white note system in the guitar hero games.
The notes are easier to play, but the window for error is much, much smaller in Rock Band than it is in Guitar Hero.
Drums:
Still can take a beating without any signs of damage.
The red and green drums aren't as responsive as the blue and yellow ones. For everything in easy and medium this is fine, but when you get to hard, and you miss notes because of the drum and not because of you, it's annoying.
I beat solo tour drums on medium, and going into hard, I didn't feel I was well prepared. The medium/hard transition on the guitar is much better.
I can't repeatedly hit the orange pedal. Like, 2 quick notes in a row kills me every time - and some songs need you to do that over and over again. I get shin splints as if I was jogging for a long time. It's rough.
Also, don't play the game on a wood floor. Your drums will be sliding every time you hit the bass.
Singing:
If you know all the words to a song, and are moderately good at drums/guitar, you can easily sing and play at the same time.
I don't sing much, but from what I see, it's really tough to get long streaks, especially on hard. Medium is a good level, and it's tough to fail even if you can't sing, but don't expect massive scores since ramping up your multiplier is rough.
You need to hit the mic in some spots - for example when there is a tambourine and no singing, or, in total awesomeness, when there is a cowbell.
Other notes:
Completing solo tour on a higher difficulty level will unlock achievements for completing it on every lower difficulty level. So unlike Guitar Hero, start at the level you're comfortable with and don't worry about playing it on an easy level.
It's actually pretty funny - with the guitar, the harder settings simply require you to play more notes, faster. On drums, I am perfectly capable of the coordination aspect of the game, but it also tests you physically - that bass pedal is nuts.
Multiplayer is a ton of fun, but I highly recommend going through solo tour as quickly as possible before doing band world tour. This is mainly because you unlock new songs much faster in solo tour, and you can play those songs in band world tour. This makes the complaint of having to play the same song over and over almost nonexistent.
On the flip side, it also opens the door for you to get really hard songs in the "mystery playlists" - Blackened kicked our ass.
Overall, single player isn't as bad as people say. I have as much fun playing single player drums than I did single player Guitar Hero. Playing guitar in Rock Band, though, just isn't fun to me - but for non Guitar Hero masters, it's a blast.
Oh, and also, everyone is going to want to play the drums. And almost everyone is going to suck at them.
