Cute. My copy of Rock Band came in last night, and while we didn't really have much time to play it, it's a pretty impressive kit. (Those drums are huge!)

My only complaint is that the guitar's strum bar feels really mushy. I much prefer the clicking one that comes with the Guitar Hero guitars. Maybe the wireless one will fix that, I hope?
No, the RB guitar is made to be a silent strummer so it does feel a bit mushy when you push it. I swear that if you use it and give it a chance you'll love it.
I just feel as if I'm going to break it whenever I push it down hard. I'll probably wind up buying a wireless GH3 guitar and then replacing the RB guitar with its wireless version - one of each for maximum flexibility.

Don't. I bash that thing all the time. The way it works on the inside is that there is two small metal contacts that when joined, cause the strum. All you're doing with the bar is moving one contact close to the other. That's why there's not a lot of feedback.

The strum bar is notorious for breaking, unless I'm not reading the rockband forums correctly. Same for the bass pedal.

Anyway... I'm not a good drummer by any stretch but I just completed all the "main" songs on Medium. I had little trouble with the last several songs. But it took me several attempts to get past Enter Sandman, and even that was mostly lucky. That's the only song that still gives me trouble. Specifically, the last few sections. Anyone else find that song difficult on medium? How embarrassing.

I wish they'd release more Garbage songs. "Why Do You Love Me" and "I Think I'm Paranoid" are awesome.

I kinda want "Stupid Girl" but I don't think it'll be a good song for RB. "I'm only happy when it rains" would be a cool song and I'd definitely buy it.

Personally, I'd love some Guns n Roses. "Sweet child of mine" is my favorite GH song.

"Push It" would be incredible in RB.

So would "Vow," "Bleed Like Me," or "Supervixen."

Yeah you can strum it pretty hard and it won't break (at least mine hasn't). I thinkt hey changed the internals at some point on the strum bar (or so I heard), and mines a newer one so maybe they're more durable now. That said me and my brother played for like 10 hours over the weekend and the guitar was on expert most of the time and still working fine.

My first rockband guitar broke in less than 2 weeks, even though most of that time I spent either drumming or playing with my GH guitar. I would definitely disagree with "I swear if you use it and give it a chance you'll love it" statement.. I'd modify that to say "if you use it and give it a chance you'll get used to it." I do get used to it when I play with it for a while and I think I can play pretty much equally well with either guitar but given the choice I definitely prefer the GH3 Les Paul. But I understand the reasons people give for liking the Strat, they just don't apply to me personally. I like the clickiness and the smaller size of the LP doesn't bother me. Also a RB guitar fans say they can slide easier with the flat buttons as opposed to the raised buttons. I like the flat buttons for the more realistic look but it's actually easier to slide IMHO with the raised buttons because it's easy to feel where my fingers are and know when to stop moving my hand when I'm sliding. When I start playing with the Strat I have a tendancy to over slide and get my fingers off of where they are supposed to be on the buttons. Like I said though, I don't hate the rockband guitar and if I play with for a few songs I do get used to it... but I still prefer the LP.

edit: also, while I started this post saying that my strat broke within 2 weeks of very light use, I should point out that I've had the replacement for a while now and it hasn't broken again (though I do use the GH guitar a lot more than the RB guitar) and from what I've read the newer RB guitars have been more reliable than the release guitars were.

Yeah I'm the complete opposite. I hate the GH3 Les Paul. On the rare occasions that I play GH3, usually when they offer some free download, I much prefer to play with my XPlorer. In fact, the LP has been broken down inside the GH3 box since about November and shoved onto a shelf in the closet. It's way too small and cheap feeling and the clicker is almost twice as loud as the XPlorer. I think that's the thing I like most about the RB guitar is the silent strummer. Even when I got in to GH2 on the 360 the click on the XPlorer annoyed me. I had to keep turning the volume up to actually hear the music over the guitar. It's not very easy to do when you're married, live in an apartment and the only times you can really play are usually 11pm-3am and your spouse is sleeping on the other side of the wall the tv is on.

To each his own!

If you ask on the official forums you may be able to find the date they started manufacturing the new ones. Of course if you replace yours now you'll get a new one for sure, and from what I've heard the replacement process is relatively pain free.

You could pop it open and look. Just dont remove the srew under the sticker on the back. I have both guitars ... only difference I see in the on the outside is that the new guitar has two green stickers on the back.

I personally like the older guitar better. Once I opened it up and put some shims on the contacts. Now the strum bar is a lot more sensitive. There is no way to change the new ones.

For those wanting to quiet the drums, I saw on some other forum (can't remember which) that Staples has 7" ROUND mouse pads for 3.99 each.

I went and bought 4, cut them a bit smaller so the colors are showing & painted the surfaces black...the underside would work but wouldn't hold up to the beating the top of the mouse pads can.

Reduced the noise dramatically and I can play at a much softer volume and still hear the drums instead of "CLACK CLACK CLACK".

Looks like a good week to have the PS3 store offline. I am not missing anything with those songs.

I wonder if they released these songs which most people won't care too much about this week on purpose. Just to cut down on complaints about the PSN being down and XBL user saying "ha ha".

also, the songs they are releasing this week were free on the cover of OXM in Feb.

They are $1 each or the pack for $3

cheap but still not appealing

I kind of like the Freezepop song that is already in the game... it's catchy... but this DLC one, isn't that the same song that was in Amplitude? I don't think I want it thought it was fine for Amplitude, just not something I'd want to pay to download for Rock Band.
